We interrupt your regularly scheduled tactics based podcast to bring you an important message. In episode 62, we're talking about Parker's observations at the ATA show in Indy. While the hunting industry is full of great products and people, there is an ugly side of it. How do we change it? Is there even a solution? There is no doubt a decline in license sales, and hunter recruitment is at an all time low. Parker and Drew talk about some things that can be done to change the current climate within the hunting community. It takes an army, but it starts with YOU. This podcast is quite different from what the guys normally talk about, but it's important for all of us to remember that we have a responsibility to preserve our lifestyle. We all love to shoot big bucks, but at the end of the day it's about more than that. How can we change this culture? Well, here's what we think...

Welcome to episode number 61 of the Southern Ground Hunting podcast. Today we're LIVE at the ATA show with Greg Godfrey and Ernie Power from Tethrd, I'm talking to them about the release of the NEW Tethrd Phantom Saddle. If you're a public land hunter, and you're not familiar with a saddle yet... LISTEN TO THIS!!! The saddle is one of the most versatile, lightest and practical ways to hunt. The Mantis was the first saddle from Tethrd, and without a doubt it made it's mark on the mobile hunting community. However the new Phantom improved in so many areas. Here's a couple of our focuses in this convo: Comfort channels, adjustable amsteel bridge, improved waist belt, leg straps, weight, sizing, and several more things.
I think you're really going to like this. If you want to know more, check out tethrdnation.com. The release will be in February 2020 so make sure you keep your eyes peeled and your wallets ready!

Welcome to the Southern Ground Hunting podcast. Thanks for joining! On Episode 60, we're joined by Nick Williams, aka. Nutterbuster, talking about an Alabama public land SOA hunt he went on last week. During this hunt, Nick and his dad both killed personal best bucks, and it wasn't just coincidence. Nick tells us about how he scouted the area with a limited amount of time allowed. Not only that, but it was months before his hunt actually took place. With deer patterns constantly changing from early season to fall and fall to winter, this made them have to adapt to the situation and stay mobile to find the deer. We discuss his equipment, strategies, and mindset going into the hunt. The last two weeks, Nick has been on a deer killing spree. In fact, he just sat down to record after dragging another one out of the woods! Listen closely to this episode, as there are some things discussed that you'll need to engrave into your mind as a deer hunter!

This episode was a little wild! Parker got to come home to Texas for the holidays. Him, his dad & brother-in-law sat down to recap a hog hunt they all went on earlier this week, using a knife as the main weapon. Parker describes the experience in full detail. The wild pig epidemic across the south is nothing to joke about, and Texas holds the highest population of feral hogs in the US. These critters are causing farmers and ranchers millions of dollars in damage and there are only a few proven methods of keeping the population in check. One of them... using dogs. The guys talk about the differences in this style of hunting vs. what they're used to doing. Is a hog different than a deer? Should I feel okay with stabbing something? Should you respect one species of animal more than another? These are all questions that are discussed in episode 59. Thanks for listening!

In episode 58, the guys are catching up about a week full of hunting the rut in Alabama. Drew spent most of his time with his old man hunting private land, while Parker and his dad were being poor and hunting public land. This was the best rut Parker has ever seen on public land in Alabama, and even managed to put a buck on the ground. Drew had a great encounter with a buck on private land, hunting an overlooked area on his club. Through the convo Parker gets on a soapbox about hunter ethics on public land.

Welcome back to the Southern Ground Hunting Podcast. In episode 57, Drew and I are talking about our season to this point. Drew finally got some meat in the freezer this week that wasn't killed with his Toyota. The only questionable thing is that he used one of the best cuts of meat... for jerky! Your loss, Drew. I get to share the heartbreaking story of my first Alabama rifle hunt of the season. I'll talk about the lessons learned and why I think it happened, but then I go into talking about the area I'm hunting. This year has been the year of opportunity for me. I've no doubt seen more deer than ever before, and in this episode I'm narrowing down the reasons why I think this is happening. In a nutshell... transitions, hard edges, funnels & pines have all played a huge part. Drew and I discuss these strategies and how we will apply them going into the Alabama rut. Enjoy!

This week we're catching up with Mr. Chasing Tales, Walter Lee. Episode 56 finds me in central Florida, trying to figure out how to kill a legal public land buck. The conversation revolves around the difficulty of this state and who better to talk to than my friend, and host of the Chasing Tales Outdoors Podcast, Walter. We discuss antler restrictions, food sources (or lack there of), and the differences between Florida and other states in the Southeast. I'm a sucker for a good challenge, and Florida public land whitetail hunting has become one thing that I really want to conquer.

On episode 55, I’m talking with Drew and Luke about how our season has gone to this point. Lucky for us, everyone in this episode put some meat in the freezer this week! Drew’s wasn’t quite what he was looking for, but it’s venison nonetheless. We’re going to start off with the story about the doe that I shot with my bow on a newer chunk of public land. From the way I chose the area, to the shot, to the tracking dog debacle that ensued in the wee hours of the morning. Luke had some success this weekend as well on a big Alabama buck that he’s been after all season. Thanks to modern technology in game cameras & some quick research on how to make a mock scrape, Luke was able to run an arrow through this big boy. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did!

Thanks for listening to episode 54! This week we’re giving you something a little bit different. I recently got to be a guest on the Smackdown Outdoors Podcast with Doug Glimmerveen. Our conversation was so much fun that I just wanted to share it with all of you! We talk a lot about some of the adversity that we face as outdoorsmen, and some of the ways we can fix them. In this day and age, it can be tough to be a hunter. Doug and I address those issues, but take the responsibility on ourselves for the resolution. I think you’ll enjoy this!

In this episode, me and Drew are talking about how we use topography features in finding the right setup for hill country whitetail hunting. We discuss the different terrain features like ridges, ditches, military crests, and creek bottoms, and how we see whitetails use those features in their travel.
