Played clawhammer style, out of DADe tuning (I don't use the 5th string for jigs), which allows me to switch keys and make playing in Irish sessions easier

An early fingerstyle banjo march by Frank Converse, from 1865. Played on a slightly more modern style banjo with super simple frame drum and tambourine (percussion a little bit sloppy in a couple of places, but this was a quick and dirty recording.)

When I heard BHO members bd and David Colgan play the minstrel version of Money Musk it sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it. It's actually an old Scottish dance tune, notated in a publication dated around 1800. Then I consulted James Buckley's minstrel notation of 1868. Next I discovered it's also a contemporary fiddle tune. With many versions to hear, I chose to play it minstrel-style, then old-time. There's lots more to know about this tune!

The old-time Tune of the Week, 8/5/16 is really Rochester Schottische, as played by Tommy Jarrell. I decided to turn the 4/4 timing to waltz time.

Another sound file with the new neck.

I've had the new RB-00 neck on the Kalamazoo/Sullivan pot for two days now and just got the RR spikes in last night. I'm using a 5/8" Red Maple bridge in this recording. This is for you Mitchell McDougal.....not the best pickin' but I just wanted to record some stuff with the new neck in it's early stages. I'm capoed in B. No singin' in this one.
