  • The Song of Mary (The Magnificant)

The sound of a mother singing to her child is so precious and beautiful! In this message Pastor Luke delves into God's Word in Luke 1:46-55 and shows us how this Song (or Prayer) of Mary to God about her son, Jesus, is beautiful and theologically rich. Grab your Bible and open up to this passage and praise God with us, and with Mary. From these verses in Luke we can see some attributes of God and how that affects us. We see that:

God is Magnificent - So I must declare Him

God is a Deliverer - So I must rejoice in Him

God is Near - So I must be humble before Him

God is Holy - So I must emulate Him

God is Faithful - So I must trust in Him

  • Parables of the Kingdom

Parables can be difficult to understand. They are employed throughout Scripture as a source if meditation for us. Which is to say, an opportunity for us to think deeply about the passage. Pastor Luke started discussing parables last week. We look at 3 more parables this week found in Mark 4:21-34. Pastor Luke breaks it down like this:

    1. The Parable of the Candle (vs. 21-26)

    - This Kingdom is offered to All

    2. The Parable of the Secret Growth (vs. 26-29)

    - The Kingdom is Grown by God

    3. The Parable of the Mustard Seed (vs. 30-32)

    - The Kingdom is Great

  • Micah 1

Pastor Luke continues his series of examining the Old Testament books commonly referred to as the Minor Prophets. In this message he begins looking at the book of Micah. The format for this message is similar to what Pastor has done for some of the other books, he will first read the passage and then go back through verse by verse and not only exposit the verses but also draw application from them.

  • Liar, Lunatic, or Lord

We all eat Oreo cookies the same, right? You split the Oreo in half, eat the cream first and then the cookies! In this message Pastor Luke will address the passage in this same manner. In Mark 3:19-35 we see one story bracketed by another. In each of the two stories we will see an accusation, a defense, and a counterpoint :

    1. The means of the Messiah's miracles (vs 22-30)

Accusation: Christ's work is empowered by Satan

Defense: Satan's kingdom cannot be divided

    Counterpoint: The "unpardonable sin"

    2. The state of the Savior's sanity.

Accusation: Being poured out for the Father is insanity

Defense: Doing God's work is a preeminent priority

Counterpoint: Christ's brothers do the Father's will

We see through each of these stories a common theme: God's will is opposed by God's enemies and known by His children.

So the question for us today is what will we do with Jesus?
