My guest this week is none other than the accomplished essayist, author, organizer and podcaster Mel Buer. I heard Mel on an episode of Rev Left Radio and was compelled by her clarity of purpose, passion and eloquence. Based in Omaha, Nebraska, she was engaged with striking workers on the picket line against Kellogg's corporation, a strike that lasted from Oct. 5th to Dec. 21 of last year, and ended in major gains and concessions wrested by Kellogg's workers from a hostile corporate office that initially refused to negotiate at all. 

I reached out to Mel to talk about her firsthand account of the Kellogg's strike, and to chat about the current state of working class politics and worker militancy in the United States and the path forward to a fair, just and classless society, where no worker is exploited and where no person is left behind. We also talk about the sad state of corporate media and she teases her soon-to-be-released book. Ladies and gentlemen, we are so excited to have Mel Buer here with us in the Barbarian Lair this week.

What's up to my tremulous tree swallows and concordant cassowaries! 

Welcome back to the BNP and thank you for joining! To my patrons, y'all are the seed syllable in my mantra meditation, thank you for the kundalini bliss tingles!

This week's episode is an exercise in the yin-yang style weaving of opposites. (This is apropos, as this week's featured veggie, the Vishuddhi chakra, harmonizes opposite thought patterns via the purifying filter of the throat center.) You already know, we've got those absurdist audio morsels you know and love. We've got an update on Major Biden, the feistiest and most fun first doggo ever, who kept biting secret service chuds (folks, can we blame him?).

And finally, for our most delicious veggies this week, we continue along the path of chakra  progression, alighting upon our 5th chakra, the sublimating vibrational vortex of Vishuddhi, the Throat Chakra, whose seed syllable is HAM.

Vishuddhi, or throat chakra,  is the purification center of our energy system, a sort of Brita filter for our voice. In Sanskrit, Suddhi means to purify, and Chakra means a wheel or vortex or energy. Vishuddhi chakra is thus a filter for our communications with the world and the cosmos. Thus, it can be a source of divine nectar or a well of poison (you decide by your vibes!). In the Indian mythology, Lord Shiva is said to have drank the poison of a great snake to save the world, which can be seen as a blue tinge in his throat.  

The sage who meditates on Vishuddhi chakra becomes eloquent and wise, enjoys uninterrupted peace of mind, learns about past, present and future, becomes adept at magickal and occult practices, and stays free of diseases and sorrow, so that their words may radiate power and positivity, for the benefit of all beings.

What's up to my bliss surfing bandicoots and ululating uakaris!

Hang onto your butts (and the top of of your dome), because I've got a tasty sizzling platter of metaphysical munchies for ya this week, chock full of zany audio morsels with plenty of delicately seasoned gourd-blowing kundalini bliss veggies on the side. 

This week we're talking about the Crown Chakra, or Sahasrasa Chakra, or the Lotus of a Thousand Petals (I like Lotus of a Thousand Petals). Otherwise known as the portal of energy and white-purple ecstasy light that sits atop your head and radiates outward into the Universe, connecting your own discrete energy centers with the infinitely renewing energy centers of the cosmos.

In the words of Pandit Vamadeva Shastri:
"The thousand-petal lotus of the head or the crown chakra is the highest of the seven chakras. It contains the powers of all the chakras below it, which can be viewed as different aspects or facets of its energy. From the standpoint of modern science we can call this chakra of the head as the “inner brain” or “spiritual brain,” the essence of intelligence, which is reflected in a limited manner in the outer workings of the physical brain."

In other words, sit your nexus of potential energy down in half lotus and get ready for blast off, because we be riding the kundalini snake of connective and restorative cosmic bliss this week.

This episode we're diving into the metaphysical realm and unpacking the concept of the Egregore, a semi-autonomous collective thought-form, built and sustained by the attention of human beings. The more attention is freely given, the more potent and powerful the egregore becomes.

Egregores may be creations of a small group, or even a single driven and devoted acolyte.  The danger with egregores is they live off our energy, and thus we can siphon off our own individual creative energy in the service of an egregore. So we have to be very conscious of where we are putting our attention. If you must compose an egregore, make sure it's guided by positive intent, and for the benefit of all beings. Make sure you hold on to your own individual creative light- it's unique and important! 

Any egregore, no matter how seemingly big and mighty, can be neutralized and deconstructed. All we have to do is stop giving it our attention. Keep this in mind with brands, websites and social media platforms: they are consciously and strategically building egregores through their marketing and public relations divisions. Don't let these nefarious egregores harvest your energy and play you!

So. It's the last week of 2021, and things are hectic for everyone, including me. This episode is a bit on the short side, but it has a lot of heart. You get your zany audio tidbits, don't you worry. The topic? It's roadside attractions, a great American tradition. We love our kitschy highway diversions, don't we folks? I know I do. I've always enjoyed roadside attractions, and it's one piece of Americana I actually appreciate.

So this episode, the last episode of 2021, is an homage to the uniquely American tradition of ridiculous roadside phenomena like giant elephants, dinosaurs, alligators and cadillacs sticking out of sand.

What's up to my piezoelectric penguins and galvanic groundhogs!

Welcome back to the BNP and thank you for joining! Shout out to my patrons: you are the piezoelectric effect in my endocrine system!

This week's episode, in addition to tasty idea tapas and zany audio tidbits of course, is a solo endeavor to unpack an oft-overlooked and truly remarkable little pinecone shaped, grain of rice sized gland in the middle of our head: the pineal gland.
 
The pineal gland produces melatonin, tryptamine, and several other intriguing chemical compounds including DMT, the most profound psychedelic known to man. Our pineal gland also contains calcite micro-crystals that conduct electromagnetic energy, and it is one of only two parts of the brain (the other being the pituitary gland) that does not have a right side and left side: with the pineal gland, it's all one baby.

Throughout history, many cultures have correlated the pineal gland with the third eye of the mystical traditions, which opens our mind to extra-sensory perceptions and deep spiritual awareness. It is thus reasonable to assume that taking good care of our pineal glands increases our sensitivity to the immaterial and mysterious aspects of life. I have a hunch that staring at the sun and rise and set helps to decalcify our pineal glands. In any case, it feels amazing to soak up all those photons...

It was actually a pineal activation I experienced during a recent meditation that served as the impetus for this episode.

On a things-happening-in-the-material-world note, at the end of the episode I touch base on what's going on with Julian Assange and the British kangaroo court that agreed to U.S. extradition demands. Prayers and positive thoughts and energy to Julian Assange, who suffered a stroke during video court proceedings.

What's up to my tourmaline terrapins and obsidian owls!

Welcome back to the BNP and thank you for joining. For my patrons, y'all are the moo in my moo-cow and the shnuffle shnuff of my wild pig. Thank you!

This episode is a solo venture and I tackle a highly relevant, oft discussed and largely misunderstood topic: the spectacular human immune system.

Our body is a Universe. We carry with us roughly 37 trillion cells and 200 different cell types. Each of those individual cells has a will, a way of being, a purpose, and I would say, a kind of soul. Our blood is made up of 54% plasma, which is a soup of water, nutrients, proteins, ions and metabolic waste. 45% of our blood are red blood cells, which are little biconcave couriers that travel and maneuver thru all the bodies blood vessels, which if you were to lay them all out individually and place them end to end, they would stretch 100,000 miles, which to put in perspective, is long enough to wrap around the entire earth 4 times over.

Moving and working thru all this vast distance swim the body's cells, only 1% of which are dedicated to the body's defense. These make up our own personal blood delivered armies, the spectacular white blood cells. There are 6 types of white blood cells, and each has a unique and highly specialized role in keeping the human body healthy and free of pathogens. 

Working all together, our white blood cells can identify a brand new pathogen, like, say, some kind of brand new freshly mutated (or freshly made in a lab) bird virus, capture it, destroy it, take it apart, analyze its building blocks, then freshly create an equally novel, brand spanking new antibody that will hunt, find, and neutralize that exact pathogen. Our cellular defense forces then create shit tons of brand new factory cells and brand new memory cells to produce more and more of those specific antibodies until the enemy pathogen is eliminated.

Then, we have still more razzle dazzle cells which remember how to make the specific antibody for that specific pathogen, so the next time it's detected in the body, the body knows exactly what to do. These memory cells live a long time and may even remain in the body for an entire lifetime.

This episode is a doozy friends. It's a solo doozy and I made sure to pepper in some goofy goblin goblets and tender zany tidbits for ya. The topic of this week's episode is essentially a clarion call to defend the integrity of our organic biology! We are not helpless beings. In fact, we are remarkably resilient and adaptive. Our immune systems are so powerful! 

I feature an article by the amazing Whitney Webb about a new financial class being cooked up called "Natural Asset Corporations," yikes! Also featured is an interview from the Unherd podcast with Hayley Hodgson, a 20-something Australian who was forced to spend 14 days in a dystopian Covid camp outside Darwin, Northern Territory, after one of her co-workers had tested positive and police scanned her scooter plate.

The main thrust of this episode is to inspire myself and others to create alternative, parallel, and most importantly, human, systems of barter, trade, commerce, and information sharing. We need to develop an alternative to the digital biomedical menagerie that is being offered to us. The system loses all its power if enough of us simply disengage and refuse to participate in it.

What's up to my surreptitious servals and surly-pincered stag beetles!

Welcome back to the BNP and thank you for joining! To my patrons: y'all are the sand bar in my cabana cove and the dichotomy in my yin-yang unified field!

This episode is a solo mission, and in addition to some zany audio tidbits I also have a subtly seasoned veggie dish for you. The topic? Strategy of Tension. What is it, what are its consequences and why should you care? I argue we should care quite a lot actually because no genuine re-distributive societal shift will be allowed to occur unless we can identify and neutralize this counter-revolutionary tactic.

Ok so what is it? When right wing forces of reaction instigate chaos or even carry out acts of terrorism against their own people, with the express intent of blaming the violence and chaos on left wing political movements, this is what's referred to as the Strategy of Tension.

Put another way: "The strategy of tension is a tactic that aims to divide, manipulate, and control public opinion using fear, propaganda, disinformation, psychological warfare, agents provocateurs, and false flag actions.

The strategy of tension has been utilized by right wing forces of reaction many times, and these programs are matters of historical record. I'm going to get into more details in the episode but just a few examples are Operation Gladio in Italy, Turkey and W. Europe after WW2. Gladio was a U.S. and NATO backed campaign of false flag terror, deployed to sabotage left-wing political movements at a time when the European Communist & Socialist parties were crazy strong and popular, the Communists having been key warriors in the battle against Italian and German fascism.

Another example of Strategy of Tension is Operation Condor, a U.S. backed campaign of political repression and state terror involving intelligence operations and assassination of opponents, officially implemented in 1975 by the right-wing dictatorships of the Southern Cone of South America. The program served to derail and uproot grassroots opposition movements which sought to reverse the brutal neoliberal economic policies of the previous era.
