Bare Naked Bravery: Post-Traumatic Courage for Entrepreneurs with Unfinished Business episodes

  • 036: How to Be a Brave Boss & Spiritual Entrepreneur with CALVIN CORRELI

Today we get to chat with Calvin Correli. He's the instigator of a software company called Simplero, which is a super rad tool for people who want to do what they do online in a streamlined way. Although it's a really great tool, today Calvin and I begin our conversation on the subject of "What is Spiritual Entrepreneurship?"

As we delved into the greater meanings of what Bravery is and how we can merge two seemingly opposed areas of life, Calvin and I also talk about two simple (yet sometimes really difficult) steps we can always take. We also discuss how we can bring our old internal thoughts patterns into the newness of the present. AND we talk about how business owners hire a really stellar team of employees.

Calvin has a ton of really applicable advice to offer everyone, so let's get it started!

    Brave Take-Aways

  • 035: How to Make the Mundane Meaningful with BRADFORD LOOMIS

I am really excited about our guest today, because he's a good friend and fellow musical troubadour. Bradford Loomis is a powerhouse of vocal chords and an impressively well-spoken songwriter based out of the Pacific Northwest, which is how I first got to know him.

Rather than just doing the usual "Tell me about your new album" kind of interview, I took the opportunity to ask Bradford some really hard questions about his career. (He in turn, asked me a whammy of a question too and my answer really took me by surprise.)  Bradford and I discuss how to turn the mundane into meaningful, how we can carve our career to fit our lifestyle, and because I really am stoked about his new album, we do get into the backstory of his album which involves strong ties to his father who was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's.

I hope you get as much out of knowing him as I have.

  • ps009: What To Do When You're Addicted to False Highs

I've had some experience in the realms of addiction. I've also more recently had some experience with the serious let-downs of being addicted to the false sense of high that comes from setting big dreams and big goals for yourself.

This Peep Show episode is all about that. And like all the other Peep Show Episodes on Bare Naked Bravery, this episode exists to give you peep behind the curtain in my life around the ways I am personally experiencing bravery on a day-to-day basis.

In this peep show I talk about addictions, I tell you a quick story about a "failure" I recently encountered, and I relay some advice I was given by a trusted advisor.

For our US listeners, I also share a really excellent tool for your own political resistance: ResistBot! It'll send faxes to your representatives on your behalf, get this, VIA TEXT MESSAGE! All you have to do is text "resist" to 50409.

Also, join our brand new Bare Naked Bravery facebook group too!

Oh you guys... This is going to be a fun day on the show. We've got the Australian fireball that is Amber Hawken with us today. You're gonna love this. She is the perfect person to talk about "How to be Unfuckwithable" because she's just released a book of a similar title: "the Unfuckwithable Life"

And yes, as you guessed from the title of this episode, there most definitely will be a significant amount of cussing in this particular conversation, so do what you need to do to prepare yourself to have a lot of fun.

Oh! Amber has her own podcast called BU (short for Be Unfuckwithable) and right after her interview for Bare Naked Bravery, we flipped the script and she interviewed me on her show. There's a link to listen to that episode as well as a link to get a copy of her book for free in the show notes of this episode, just go to barenakedbravery.com for all of that.

  • 033: How to Create a Crisis Toolkit for Grief & Depression with BECKY MOLLENKAMP

Becky Mollenkamp is with us today with a really powerful story and set of tools for us. Becky runs a business doing content creation for other small businesses and today she shares with us what it was like to lose a younger sibling to bi-polar disorder and a subsequent heroin overdose. Understandably, this life event ravaged her life and her business. But as you'll learn later on in her story, that experience prepared her for the other inevitable moments of bravery, like going through a miscarriage.

Without giving away all the good stuff, I'll just tell you that she and I ended up going through a must-have list of things you should definitely do, when you or your business is in crisis. For whatever reasons, big or small.

Oh! and there's a killer download worksheet I've included with this episode, which will help you begin to make your own crisis toolkit. That worksheet is available in the shownotes for this episode.

I'm really happy to have Becky Mollenkamp with us today. I think you'll appreciate her vulnerability as much as I do.

    Brave Take-Aways

Okay, so as I mentioned before, your Brave Take-Away from today's show is a really sweet worksheet which will help to give you starting point for creating your own "Bare Minimum To-do List." I know it seems kind of strange to need help making a list of things you *shouldn't* do, but believe me. As a business owner who sometimes needs to take those "Fudge It" days, it's really helpful. And there is a bit of an art that goes into deciding which tasks are necessary to keeping your business running smoothly and which ones are not.

  • ps008: It's My Birthday & I'll Cry If I Want To
This week is my birthday. I will be 31 years old. I cannot imagine what my life would look like if I dropped out of school to get married at the age of 8.

To honor the education and experience I've been granted in my 31 years, I'm donating $31 every month this year to speakupforthepoor.org -- They serve over 1100 girls in 26 villages, helping them stay in school and out of child marriage, and they fund more than 20 girls removed from brothels in Bangladesh.

There is no greater human rights issue than the way we treat girls in poverty. They deserve to be heard, to be educated, to have options, to have dreams.

If you are inspired by the work I do and want to celebrate 31 years of living bravely with me, then I challenge YOU to sponsor a girl's education for $31/month.

Let's make it happen. Let's transform these girls into what we know they can be, perhaps things they don't yet have permission to dream about...

  • 032: Visibility & Fear When Your World Feels Painfully Small with MICHELLE LEWIS
It sucks to feel like we're in that rut or locked down into a way of living that doesn't fit anymore. It sucks even worse to get stuck with a situation like an illness or a total life overhaul that we didn't necessarily choose into. So what do we do about it? Michelle Lewis of Visibility Vixen joins us today to talk all about visibility, fear, and what to do when our world feels painfully small.

She's got a pretty great story which overlaps similarities in my own story in some really wonderful ways. Michelle is such a joy to spend time with, I know you'll love this conversation.
