This episode of Baring It All with Call Me Adam is an EXCLUSIVE interview with Tony Nominee Charles Busch, discussing the OTHER side of his artistry, his painting and drawing.

Charles has NEVER given an interview about his painting and drawing until now. We dive deep into this private side of Charles Busch who is known for his Tony Nominated play The Tale of the Allergist's Wife in addition to his hit plays The Divine Sister, The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset, The Tribute Artist, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, and his latest hit, The Confession of Lily Dare.

Charles Busch has forged a unique place in the world of entertainment as playwright, actor, director, novelist, cabaret performer and drag icon. He is the author and star of over twenty-five plays including The Divine Sister, The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset, The Tribute Artist and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom; one of the longest running plays in the history of Off-Broadway. His play The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife ran for 777 performances on Broadway, won the Outer Circle Critics’ John L. Gassner Award for playwrighting, received a Tony nomination for Best Play and is the longest running Broadway comedy of the past twenty-five years. His most current play is The Confession of Lily Dare.

He wrote and starred in the film versions of his plays, Psycho Beach Party and Die Mommie Die, the latter of which won him the Best Performance Award at the Sundance Film Festival. For two seasons, he appeared as Nat Ginzburg on the HBO series OZ and is the author of the auto-biographical novel Whores of Lost Atlantis. He has directed two films; the Showtime short subject, Personal Assistant, and a feature, A Very Serious Person, which won an honorable mention at the Tribeca Film Festival. Due to his love and knowledge of film and theatre history, he has appeared as a guest programmer and in numerous documentaries for Turner Classic Movies, and has lectured and conducted master classes at many colleges and universities including NYU, Harvard, UCLA and Amherst College. In 2003, Charles received a special Drama Desk Award for career achievement as both performer and playwright and was given a star on the Playwrights Walk outside the Lucille Lortel Theatre. He is also the subject of the acclaimed documentary film The Lady in Question is Charles Busch.

He is a two-time MAC award winner and has performed his cabaret act in many cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, London, Paris, Barcelona and New York. In winter of 2016, his show, The Lady at the Mic, premiered at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series. His first CD, Charles Busch Live at Feinstein’s 54 Below, was released by Broadway Records.

Graham J. is a native of County Dublin in Ireland. He began singing and piano lessons at a young age. His unique contralto voice and highly emotive singing have garnered him a large following internationally. Earning him many plaudits from the jazz and cabaret press. Acclaimed music journalist Larry Flick describes him as having “A gift from God” and praised him saying “You make pop music serious. You’re a real artist.” 2018 was a busy year for Graham. Highlights included performing at the Laurie Beechman Theatre on Broadway in New York City. Headlining The Gay Pride Festival in Sitges and performing at Pizza Express in Holborn. 2019 saw him making his debut at The Pheasantry in London.

He began his career as a comedy writer, and his comic novel, The Adventures of Spike the Wonder Dog: As Told to Bill Boggs, reflects strong observational comedy chops. He has written essays for The New York Times Sunday Magazine and travel articles also for The Times.

A true industry insider, Bill has interviewed many of the most notable personalities of our time—cultural icons, music legends, presidents, writers, athletes, celebrity chefs—and a movie star or two. In 2008, Harper/Collins published his well-received motivational book, Got What it Takes?, based on his interviews with highly successful people.

His TV credits include the long-running Midday Live, a decade hosting and producing Bill Boggs Corner Table on the Food Network along with programs on Showtime, The Travel Channel, ESPN and all the major networks. Bill was also the host and producer of the syndicated series, Comedy Tonight and the executive producer for the groundbreaking Morton Downey Jr. Show.

His Off-Broadway play, Talk Show Confidential, and novel, At First Sight, were optioned for a screenplay inspired by his life.

He started playing hockey as a three year old and almost exclusively watches NBA basketball and early 2000s sitcoms on TV. In 2016, Mike moved to New York and saw the revival of CATS that July…he became obsessed with the (lack of?) plot and unique ending. Mike started telling his theories to anyone who will listen, and hasn’t stopped since. He is currently a Senior Account Strategist at Google, helping brands with their digital marketing strategy. He lives in Midtown Manhattan with his CATS plush toys and posters.

Jasper Cole was awarded Best Screen Villain by the International Nollywood Film Festival in 2019. As a veteran character actor with over a 100 TV/film credits, Jasper continues his villainous streak having co-starred in the box office smash hit film, The Purge: Anarchy as a “Homeless Man” produced by Michael Bay and Jason Blum, in Captured, as “Shelly” starring Brittany Curran and Kristin Prout and Anyone Home? as “Walker” opposite Emmy winner Kathy Baker and Monique Gabriella Curnen.

He will soon be seen in the lead role of “Bad Cop” in the horror/thriller Savage Sistas and as “Dark Butler” in the horror film Spirits opposite Lynn Lowry. Most recently Jasper guest starred as “Goobler” in the Palamino & Swissy and “Crack Head Fred” in the ABC Series The Rookie.

Jasper was “Peter” in Awaken The Shadowman, starring Jean Smart, “Jacques De Leon” in the CBS Drama, Training Day, opposite Bill Paxton, in the 2017 season of American Horror Story and had roles on Baskets and WestWorld.

Jasper obtained critical acclaim for his work on Michael Eisner’s Emmy Nominated series, Prom Queen, his unforgettable stint on Everybody Hates Chris and his recurring role on the ABC series, The Forgotten, starring, Christian Slater. He has also guest starred on HBO’s hit series Funny Or Die Presents and appeared regularly in various comedy sketches for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Film and TV audiences will also remember Jasper as “Reno”, the bad cowboy, in the award winning Showdown at Seven commercials for the popular movie website, Fandango, and he appeared in the popular national Direct TV commercials opposite Rob Lowe. New York Times Best Selling author of Confessions of A Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated, Alison Arngrim is best known to viewers world-wide for her portrayal of the incredibly nasty “Nellie Oleson” on the much loved, long running hit television series Little House On The Prairie, and continues to amuse audiences through her many film, television and stage appearances.

Her one woman show Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, which started at Club Fez in New York in 2002, has now become a world-wide phenomenon, having been performed to packed houses in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, and in France, where Alison performs entirely in French to standing room only crowds in her all French version titled: Confessions d’une Garce de La Prairie.

In 1986 when her friend and "Little House husband" co-star, Steve Tracy, passed away due to complications of HIV/AIDS, Alison began volunteering at AIDS Project Los Angeles. Her duties ranged from working on the Southern California AIDS Hotline and the APLA food bank, to chairing the steering committee of the volunteer speakers bureau and developing “Safer Sex” workshops. In 1992, Joel Wachs presented Alison with a resolution by the Los Angeles City Council commending her on her work on behalf of people living with HIV and AIDS.

From 1989 through 1993 she served as Program Manager at Tuesday's Child, an organization assisting children and families affected by HIV and AIDS. From 1989 through 2003 she served as both hostess and producer for the comedy stage at the AIDS Project Los Angeles Annual Summer Party, where she helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for people living with HIV.

She currently serves as California Chair, National Spokesperson and Founding Board Member on the National Advisory Board of The National Association to Protect Children (www.PROTECT.org), fighting to give children a legal and political voice in the war against child abuse. As an activist for the improvement of child protection laws, she has spoken before the California Senate and worked on legislative and political campaigns in several states, including Virginia and New York, in addition to PROTECT’s work on federal legislation in Washington, D.C.

She takes pride in the fact that so many people enjoyed hating her as a girl and is more than happy to give them the opportunity to do so in the future.
