  • Episode 36: Double Digit Winners, Big Ten Struggles, + Pac-12 Dominance - Round 1 Recap

On today's episode of Barstool Bench Mob, Rico, Marty, and Jake recap a wild first round of the NCAA Tournament. We start in the West Region where Virginia officially ended it's courtship with Rico losing to 13-seed Ohio. Creighton barely escaped an upset bid from UCSB. How far can the Blue Jays go? And unfortunately we have our first COVID-related no-contest allowing Oregon to move on after VCU was forced to bow out. (02:31)

Onto the South Region where Ohio State was stunned by Oral Roberts and North Texas topped Purdue further confirming Marty's Big Ten take. Plus - the bet has been set. A second round matchup between Arkansas and Texas Tech will determine whether Marty will take a difficult math test or Rico will be read the Berenstain Bears 47 times. (10:50)
Moving to the Midwest Region - three double digit seeds advance to the round of 32. 12 seed Oregon State beat down Tennessee to continue their late-season run. But are they really a threat to Cade Cunningham and Oklahoma State? And we have an intra-state matchup between 1-seed Illinois and 8-seed Loyola-Chicago. On the bottom of the region, Jake's Orange dominated San Diego State setting up an old-school Big East battle with West Virginia. Plus - does Rutgers have a chance against Houston? (21:57)
And finally to the East Region where Alabama has a very clear path to the Elite Eight after 3 double-digit seeds advanced to Monday. UConn disappointed against Maryland, UCLA took down BYU and Abilene-Christian shocked Texas. (28:44)

  • Episode 35: The March Madness 2021 Deep Dive

On today's bracket breakdown episode of Barstool Bench Mob, Jake, Marty, and Rico kick things off with the major storylines coming out of Indianapolis (02:19). We have some top-tier referees being sent home due to COVID tracing. Players are complaining about the food and conditions inside the "controlled environment" in Indy. But in the end, we are just happy to have an NCAA Tournament after missing last year's.

Our bracket breakdown begins with the West Region (16:28). Is Gonzaga the clear favorite to come out of this region? Will we see an early-season rematch of the Zags and Hawkeyes in the Elite Eight? Are Evan Mobley and the Trojans being overlooked as a sleeper?
In the South Region, is Baylor the most vulnerable #1 seed? (26:47) Marty and Rico try to hammer out their Texas Tech-Arkansas bet. Is Winthrop the trendiest 12-5 upset pick? And Rico is rooting hard for Florida after the Virginia Tech social media team jumped all over his past Hokies takes.
Over to the Midwest Region where Illinois is the hottest team in the country but they could have a tough matchup against Oklahoma State in the Sweet 16. (41:48) Why isn't West Virginia getting any love? And Rico's got some tempo bets that you're going to want to lock in before Friday.
In the East Region, everybody is counting out Michigan. (48:51) With Isaiah Livers out, are the Wolverines in danger of an early exit? Rico is out on Texas, Marty is in on Florida State and both have no idea if they love or hate Maryland. And Rico slips in a free gift for the Mobsters.
To wrap things up, the guys hit on some of the recent coaching carousel news around the country. (59:05)

Which region is the deepest from top to bottom?
Then - we welcome back Iowa guard Jordan Bohannon fresh off of a COVID test and stuck in his hotel room in Indianapolis (26:23).  Jordan tells Marty, Rico, and Jake about his experience so far in the Indianapolis bubble. Plus - Jordan gives a live unbagging of the goodies the NCAA is giving to players.
And to wrap things up, we recap the major storylines following Conference Championship week (49:37). We had 3 major bid-stealers over the weekend.
