Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!
And what a hell of a week it was. We have a hole mess of news including all of the trailers, announcements and cool tidbits from SDCC, we also do some deep dives into the stories involving the fire at Kyoto Animation, discuss our theatrical review of Lion King, talk about Halloween (2018) and answer last week’s podquestion of “Which brand are you most loyal to.” It’s a whirlwind of an episode, or perhaps a roller coaster is a more appropriate metaphor? Either way, strap in and enjoy the ride.
This week’s streaming review was Halloween (2018). As someone who never watched any of the previous movies this one serves as a decent enough jumping on point. With plenty of characters and moments in the story to bring you up to speed (including some poor podcasters). Bat pointed out that there were also quite a few little easter eggs here and there for long time fans. The movie overall isn’t super original and to Bat’s point it doesn’t really do all too much new. But as my first foray with Michael Myers I have to say it wasn’t too bad. He’s still not in my top tier of horror villains but the creative use of angles and darkness does give him a nice flare. We both came out of this one 50/50 with us only really recommending the movie to fans, otherwise you can skip it and save yourself some time.
HBOgo is at it again, this time on a more somber note with The Hate U Give.
You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!
The trickle of news continues but fret not! We have a new Marvel Movie to review with Spider Man: Far From Home hitting the theaters. As always we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled reviews of this web slinging feature. We also talk about the new Ariel casting, review our streaming movie A Star Is Born and answer last week’s podquestion of “what city would you want to destroy as Godzilla?”
This week’s streaming review was the 2018 Robin Hood. This was a movie that I actually wanted to see in the theaters but missed. It seemed like it blended the Knights Tale modern/classical feel with action from Kingsman. Happy to report we were not disappointed in the least. Sure, Robin Hood isn’t a great movie, but it never attempts to be. It simply tires to have fun and add a new twist on a classic tale, which it does. The arrow combat is silly but enjoyable and, most importantly, consistent. We talked a bit about how some movies make rules but don’t stick with them. Robin Hood makes the rules of it’s world and steals at least part of our hearts. We both gave this one a thumbs up and would recommend you give it a shot.
Who knew that HBOgo would have a pretty large treasure trove this month but we’re diving into it again, this time to watch Halloween (2018). I’ve never actually seen this one so it should be fun to jump by myself as we watch the wacky hi-jinks of Michael Myers.

This week’s streaming review was A Star Is Born. We both have heard so much about this movie and were genuinely curious to see what all of the buzz was about. Sadly, neither of us were really blown away by the movie. While there are definite parts of the movie we enjoyed, over all it just wasn’t what we were hoping for. Something that really held the movie back for both of us was the never ending downward spiral of a relationship between Cooper and Gaga. With numerous points in the movie the characters seemed to realize they were bad for each other but then ignored the signs and went right back to each other. While that might have been the point, it was exhausting as an audience member. We didn’t come out of the movie hating it, but we also didn’t come out loving it… we just felt “meh” about it all. It’s hard for either of us to recommend this movie to anyone but we also can’t really tell you to skip it either. Sorry folks, we wish we could give you more.
Next week we will we continue our HBOgo kick with Robin Hood.

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!
As it is with most post E3 shows, it’s a bit of a slow news day. But that’s okay because you’re talking to of the best bullshitters… well maybe not the best but we hold our own. This week we discuss the announcement of a Final Fantasy 14 TV show, a Star Wars revelation for me and we review this week’s streaming review of BlackkKlansman. To wrap it up we answer our podquestion of, “Which game would you want to get the FF8 treatment?”
This week’s streaming review was Spike Lee’s BlackkKlansman on HBOgo. Wow, right from the start this movie sets it’s tone and it doesn’t ease up from there. This movie was honestly pretty damn good. From the acting, the cinematography, to the concept, it’s a pretty intense and hard hitting tail. Even to the end, this movie drives home the point that “Racism is still prevalent” and and that we can’t ignore it. We both highly recommend this movie, go see it now.
Next week we will we continue our HBOgo kick with A Star Is Born.

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!
It wouldn’t be a Bat and Hammer show if one of us wasn’t dying. Luckily, I have beaten the plague for now and we’re able to record this week and discuss all the nerdy shit that happened. I bring you my spoiler-free review of Aladdin & Dark Phoenix as I saw these solo. We also bring you our spoiler-free and spoiler-filled review of Toy Story 4. Who knew a movie that we didn’t want could make us fall in love again. We also get to talk about all the cool E3 news from this past weekend. To wrap it up, we discuss our streaming review of Rim of the World and totally give the cold shoulder to Bat’s question of, “Who is your favorite Godzilla villain?”
This week’s streaming review was another Netflix original, Rim of the World. I feel like we should be used to this feeling of ‘meh’ when it comes to original movies from Netflix, but sadly I expected more from this one and was sorely disappointed. This movie tries to cater to 90’s and 00’s nostalgia while trying to give you a semi-raunchy teen comedy in the vein of ‘Goonies’. From our disappointment it should be no surprise that this movie fails on all fronts. We both highly recommend you give this one a hard pass and spend your time elsewhere.
Next week we will be watching Black Klansman on HBOgo. We both really wanted to see this one while it was in the theaters but are excited to give this one a shot now.

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!
As we’re both out of town this week we wanted to share our other panel from this years Phoenix Fan Fusion. This was our first year doing this panel where we hosted attendee’s panel suggestions. We set a time limit of 5 minutes for each panel and kicked it off by tossing each of our own surprise ideas to the other. With our own ideas of defending Flat Earth Theory and choosing between BvS and Star Wars Episode 8 as Bat’s favorite movie we got into the audience’s suggestions. It was such a pleasant and wonderful surprise how much the audience really dug into the idea and some of the suggestions that people provided were fantastic.
The picture below was our reaction from one person’s suggestion of “defend how Will Smith’s Genie will be better than Robin Williams’ version.” Bat’s face says it all as he asked “who hurt you?” Seriously, we lost it, that girl was the real MVP.
Unfortunately, something things never change and we do a terrible job of restating people’s comments and questions. But we want to thank you all for coming out and participating in this strange and fun little experiment. We will definitely be doing this again next year!
With that said, this is a live podcast and the audio quality may not always be the best. But you do get to hear us “ooooh” and “ahhhh” with each new suggestion and struggle on quite a few of the ideas to keep a straight face.
We will be back to the normal format next week with our review of the final Fox Xmen movie with Dark Phoenix. So thank you for listening and make sure to continue following our adventures using any of the means below.

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!
We’re back in the saddle again with another one of our highly anticipated movies ready to be reviewed. This week we bring you a spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Godzilla: King of Monsters (spoilers, I loved it). We also have a whole heaping helping of nerd news to catch up on as we rush on towards E3. Lastly we wrap it up with our Phoenix Fan Fusion wrap up, where we talk about what we loved, what we didn’t, and what’s to become of PFF looking to the future.
For next week we’re taking a dip back into the Netflix original well and watching Rim of the World. It looks to be a group of kids gather together and try to save everything when all the worst alien invasion stories come crashing down a round them. Here’s hoping that we get one of those “diamonds in the rough” from Netflix.

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!
And what a week it was. With Phoenix Fan Fusion wrapped up and in the history books we’re taking a break form the normal format to bring you one of our favorite panels we do every year. The Summer Movie preview panel! Unfortunately, something things never change and we do a terrible job of restating people’s comments and questions. But we had a fun crowd that geeked out over this summers blockbusters and talk movies.
With that said, this is a live podcast and the audio quality may not always be the best. But you do get to hear us rant and rave about all the summer movies that have past and those that are still on the horizon.
We will be back to the normal format next week with our review of Godzilla: King of Monsters (so much excitement) and so much else. So thank you for listening and make sure to continue following our adventures using any of the means below.

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!
The Summer continues to blaze past us with another tent-pole movie and next weeks Phoenix Fan Fusion. But before we get into that we get to gush about John Wick 3! We also have a number of fun nerd news, our streaming review of The Danish Girl and answers to last week’s podquestion of “which death in the MCU did you feel the most?” Be warned that our answers do dip into spoiler territory.
This week we watched another movie from our backlog with The Danish Girl on HBOgo. First off, Eddie Redmayne’s performance is simply fantastic. But not just his, the acting in this movie is top notch. Watching the story of people, and seeing how they evolve through the movie is truly a sight to behold. There is so much to love about the movie as it really challenges the audience. While this is not going to be a repeated viewing sort of movie it is definitely one that we highly recommend you give a shot.
No streaming review for next week because it’s Phoenix Fan Fusion!!! We are super excited to see you all there and hope you can attend one of our 3 panels. You can also follow our fun by one of our social media channels below:

Hello everyone, welcome to our week in Geek!
The summer blockbusters just keep running along with this week’s release of Detective Pikachu. We will bring you all of the familiar spoiler free and spoiler filled reviews so make sure to catch-em…err both? We also bring you our streaming review of Netflix’s “The Silence” and dive into some nerd and movie trailer news before wrapping it up with answers to last week’s podquestion of “which Marvel Character did you want to see brought into the MCU?”
This week we watched our fan suggestion of The Silence. Lets address the elephant in the room, yes this is incredibly similar to one of favorite movies of last year, A Quiet Place. No, it does not live up to that other movie. But, with that being said, this movie does kind of tread it’s own ground and do a decent job of it. Not saying that this movie is great by any means, but it’s decent. When you consider all of the other Netflix original’s track records, that’s saying something. They atmospheric feel of A Quiet Place can’t really be replicated on the small screen and this movie doesn’t really try to ape that feel. Which is why I think we’re a little more enamored by it. We both gave it a thumbs up, but we’re not quick to recommend this to our listeners. Tread carefully, unless you love Stanley Tucci then tread freely.
Next up w’e’re tackling our backlog of movies we missed in the theater. Seriously, this one came out about 4 years ago. But we’ve been curious about Eddie Redmayne performance in The Danish Girl on HBOgo.
