  • Episode 189: Ghost in the Shell Is a Good Example of Why You Shouldn’t Judge a Movie Before Seeing It

Hello and welcome back! For this week’s show we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Ghost in the Shell. Sorry for the long title but if you listen to our spoiler free review, or see the movie yourself, I think you’ll understand the long ass title and why it fits this movie. We review our streaming movie, Keanu and deep dive into nerd news including the trailer to IT along with some good ‘oll free shit good shit. Lastly we wrap everything up with answers from this week’s Podquestion of what was your favorite childhood live action show. Oh yeah, and go ahead and steal our T-shirt idea… but send us 2 shirts please. #BigItFan #NotABigItFan

This week’s recommendation of Keanu was my choice… and I kind of regret it. Bat and I both agreed that this was a bad movie. I can’t tell you exactly what I was expecting but it wasn’t this movie. For a comedy, neither of us could remember a single time we laughed. The best way I could put it was that this seemed like a silly 3-5 minute skit that shouldn’t have been expanded into a full length movie. We both gave it a 2/5 and highly recommend you skip this one and save yourself a little over an hour and a half.

This week’s recommendation is Bat’s choice and he wants us to watch Ratchet and Clank on Netflix. We both have heard pretty negative reviews but are looking forward to giving it a shot. You cam find this one on Netflix.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

  • Episode 188: Go Go Power Rangers

Hello and welcome back! For this week’s show we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Power Rangers as well as our streaming review of Pete’s Dragon. We also dive into the new Justice League trailer and take a few, okay more than a few, minutes to discuss rage culture. We also have answers from this week’s Podquestion of what was your favorite Disney song.

This week’s Streaming review was the highly regarded remake of Pete’s Dragon. This movie has us split down the middle. Bat really enjoyed the movie and thought it had a lot of heart. But I just had a hard time connecting with this movie in general. There were quite a few good actors in the flick and we both agreed that the kid who played Pete did a pretty good job. We also both agreed that the Dragon’s CGI was a little cheesy, but that may have been intentional. Bat gave this movie a 3/5 while I gave it a 2/5.

This week’s recommendation is my choice so I’m giving us something ridiculous. We’re going to be watching Keanu on HBOgo. Key and Peel are on a mission to rescue a cat… and as you guessed it hi jinks ensue. Here’s to hoping for some fun comedy to keep us entertained.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

  • Episode 187: Beauty and the Excessive Body Haired Individual

Hello and welcome back! This time we both were able to catch this week’s theatrical release of Beauty and the Beast. Since this is a tale as old as time we’re just diving right into the spoilers on this one, mind you we really don’t think there are too many. We also review this week’s streaming review of These Final Hours, talk some Nerd News and listen to Bat’s Disneyland Vacation hi-jinks! We also have answers from this week’s Podquestion

This week’s Streaming Suggestion, from out friend TK, was the Australian End of the world movie called These Final Hours. I compared this movie to Seeking a Friend at the End of the World with both of the main characters seeking to find their place/purpose when their futures are decided for them. This movie finds it’s main “protagonist” as douche canoe person set on finding only self satisfaction. But his journey is cut short when he comes to the aid of a young girl and reluctantly helps her find her father. This whole journey is just a means to an end to show him that what he was afraid of, a real human connection, is what he really needed. In the end we both rather enjoyed the journey and thought it was worth the watch and a nice reprieve of what we would normally choose to watch. We each gave it a 3/5 but wouldn’t seek a repeat viewing.

This week’s recommendation comes from Bat. Since we are apparently in the mood of Disney remakes we’re going to be watching one that we didn’t catch in theaters, Pete’s Dragon. This movie can be found on Netflix if you care to seek out this imaginary friend.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

  • Episode 186: Little Kong Action

Hello and welcome back! And this time it’s for a snack sized episode. I wasn’t able to join Bat on the adventure with Kong Skull Island but he brings us his spoiler free review and we also get to talk about this week’s streaming review of The Visit. Since there isn’t too much in terms of news we discuss what we’re playing and talk about Horizon: Zero Dawn, Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Ghost Recon: Wild Lands… wow that is a lot of colons. Also this time we remember to actually ask a Podquestion, aren’t you proud of us? I know I am.

This week we watched the suspense driven The Visit. We had both wanted to see this movie when it came out in theaters and heard good things about it. But we completely missed the boat. I can say that we were pleasantly surprised. This movie really felt like a return to the old Shyamalan films that we really fell in love with. While not perfect it was a really enjoyable movie. Not as many frights but it had plenty of edge of your seat moments and an ending that neither of us saw coming. If you have avoided the spoilers this long I won’t ruin them for you but we both recommend giving this 3/5 movie a watch. Now we just need to go see Switch!

This week’s recommendation comes from our listener TK. Thanks you him we are watching These Final Hours on Netflix. The movie has post apocalyptic feel about it that we just can’t resist. Feel free to join in and give this one a watch.

  • Episode 185: Old Man Logan

Hello and welcome back! Sorry for the lack of last week’s episode but life called and we picked up. Since we did see Get Out last week but didn’t record and we also saw Logan this week we’re going to be giving both movies spoiler free reviews but only giving Logan a spoiler filled one. We also have The Nice Guys for our streaming review as well as a few news and release reactions. I know, we take a week off and everything happens to come out. We also have this month’s Free Shit Good Shit and our podquestion… though we forget to ask a new one. I blame the late night recording as a reason.

This week I had us watch The Nice Guys. when you listen to us both try to describe the plot of the movie you quickly realize a glaring problem, the story. This movie takes so many turns and tries to wear so many hats that it quickly gets convoluted of who’s looking for who and who all died. while there is some chemistry between Crowe and Gosling I just couldn’t bring myself to really care much about any of it. It’s not horrible, it’s just not great. Perfect for a streaming review but would have been a big disappointment in the theater. We both gave this one a 3/5 but wouldn’t really push you to go see it.

This week’s recommendation is another one of those movies that we just missed out in theaters. We’re watching The Visit on HBOgo. It sounds like Shyamalan is making a comeback and we’re eager to get into this “new” movie.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

  • Episode 184: The Great Waah?

Hello and welcome to this weeks belated podcast. I swear I can get these things posted on a regular…okay semi regular basis. Thanks for being patient with me. This week we went into the theaters and watched The Great Wall and we have our spoiler free and spoiler filled reviews just for you. We also discuss this weeks streaming review of Spotlight and talk a bit about our digital game libraries that we keep on neglecting.

This week Bat wanted us to watch the movie Spotlight, which focused on the child molestation scandal that swept the Catholic Church. With a cast of well known actors from all across the board and the subject matter we knew this one was going to hit us hard. What we were shown was some excellent acting that depicted the struggles of a group of journalists trying to uncover one of the biggest stories of recent memory. Our biggest criticisms were that the passage of time wasn’t as clearly conveyed as we would have liked and that we thought there needed to be a little more explanation to all of the cases that the journalists and lawyers refer to. But these are some minor critiques of a movie that really hit hard and fast and displayed what true journalism is. We both gave this one 4/5 and highly recommend that you give it a watch.

This week’s recommendation is my choice. We’re watching The Nice Guys. This is one of those movies that we wanted to see in the theaters but just missed out. Hopefully this movie fits right in for our streaming reviews. You can watch this one on HBOgo.

  • Episode 183: John Wick is Back

Hello and welcome to this weeks belated podcast. Due to some computer issues I’m going to keep this short and sweet. This week we review John Wick 2 and our streaming review of Midnight Special. We also discuss some nerd news: Kevin Smith canceling Clerks 3, E3 opening up to the public and a Castlevania Netflix show coming soon.

This week’s recommendation of Midnight Special was an interesting watch. We both liked it, though surprisingly Bat liked it more. We both got some Stranger Things vibes, in a good way, and really liked how the story left some questions unanswered. If you can give this movie about 2 hours of your life you will see something that you don’t normally get to see in bigger budget movies… something strange but kind of beautiful. While Bat gave it 4/5 and I gave it 3/5 we both agree this one is worth the watch.

This week’s recommendation comes from Bat… and he wants us to watch Spotlight. This movie is about the child molestation scandal that swept the Catholic Church. So… don’t expect any light funny moments in this one. The cast is stellar which can only mean that we are going to feel some very real and uncomfortable emotions. This movie is on Netflix.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

  • Episode 182: Doesn’t Quite Ring a Bell

Hello and welcome to this weeks podcast This week we bring you our spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Rings as well as our streaming review of The Infiltrator. We also talk about the recent directing departure of batman and some free shit good shit.

This week’s streaming review was the The Infiltrator. This movie followed the story of Robert Mazura (Bryan Cranston) who is actually an undercover agent trying to make the biggest Drug Bust of his career. The acting is top notch and the design of this film is spot on. Our biggest complaint was that with all of the information and characters being introduced it got a little hard to follow exactly what was going on at times. You knew big things were happening but weren’t always sure of how or why. But take that criticism with a grain of salt and enjoy this fun suspenseful drama, I know we both did. Bat and I both gave it a 3/5 and would definitely recommend giving this one a watch.

This week’s recommendation puts us back in the driver seat and I’m having us watch Midnight Special. This movie looked really interesting when it was out in theaters but I never got around to it so I’m excited to give it a try. You can find this movie on HBOgo.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.

  • Episode 181: Normal Effin Teenagers

Hello and welcome to this weeks podcast This week we discuss the passing of John Hurt, the new Star Wars title, Square Enix Marvel partnership predictions and we also dive again into Final Fantasy 15… seriously we could write a short story about this game and the things we love and hate about it. We also review this weeks streaming review of It Follows.

It Follows is the story of a supernatural STD of sorts. Essentially if you sleep with an “infected” person you then become the target of a slow walking creepy demon and the only way to sort of get rid of it is to have sex with someone else and pass the curse. The kink is that if that new person is killed by the ghost/demon thing then it start going back after you. There are many really neat things about this movie but it falls short of the masterpiece many have made it out to be. The slow and steady suspense of the pursuit actually was one of my favorite things about this movie. But there were a few parts that dragged on to me and Bat took issue with the movie not following it’s own sort of rules. Overall we both gave it a 3/5 and would recommend it to horror/suspense fans.

This week’s recommendation comes from TK. He is having us watch The Infiltrator which stars Bryan Cranston… and that is literally all we know about this one. So come and watch this movie with us on Amazon Video.

  • Episode 180: Daddy’s Home Alone

Hello and welcome to this weeks podcast! Not much going on in the geek world so we discuss our Final Fantasy 15 impressions, thoughts on the power rangers trailer and get to this week’s streaming review of Daddy’s Home. You should also give Bat’s review of Final Fantasy 15 a look see from last week.

This week’s recommendation came from our listener, Kristi. Daddy’s Home is the second team up movie starting Will Ferrell and Markie Mark (no funkie bunch). The basic premise is the battling between stepfather Ferrell and biodad Walberg for the hearts and minds of the kids. While Bat is not fan of Ferrell, I actually enjoy a few of his movies. But even so, we both did not enjoy this movie. The humor just never really hit home for either of us, except for a 1 or 2 occasions. But what really brought this movie, in my opinion, is the lack of heart from this movie. I honestly didn’t really want to root for either character as both were just in an ongoing pissing contest. Bat gave it 3/5 and I gave it a 2/5 and we both recommend skipping this one in favor of something else.

This week’s recommendation comes from Bat. This week we get to watch the horror movie It Follows. We’ve heard a lot of good things about this movie so we’re pretty excited to see it… though i’ll be sure to grab my blanket to hide behind. Come and watch this movie with us on Netflix.

You can suggest a streaming movie that you want us to watch and review on future episodes that are on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBOgo.
