Welcome back everyone to this weeks delayed edition of Sprecken ze Geek.  While we recover from SDCC we took the weekend off of recording so we’re bringing out our live recorded panel from Phoenix Comic Con 2015.  This was our first attempt at doing things a little different for our panel and we were quite pleased with the results.  The panel was about what would you change about some of the existing comic book movies to make them better as well as pitching your ideas for comic book movies (and a bit of TV shows) going forward.  We had a pretty good turnout and even a better fan interaction which really just made it pure fun.  Again thanks to everyone who made the panel a wonderful geeky time and for encouraging us to do more of these.

Welcome back everyone to this weeks edition of Sprecken ze Geek.  This week we review Terminator: Genisys, our streaming review of Nightcrawler, discuss what we’re looking forward to at this years San Diego Comic Con and review season 1 episode 3 of True Detective.  As always we will give you a spoiler free review of Terminator with a spoiler filled review at the end of the show followed by the True Detective episode spoiler review.

This week we also review last weeks streaming suggestion of Nightcrawler.  We both really enjoyed this crazy ride of a movie.  Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance really is stellar and down right creepy.  Though Bat would have liked it to go on 20 mins or more to see the ‘end’ of the story I actually enjoyed this movie as it was.  I basically viewed it as a villain movie, one where we get to see the bad guy essentially win.  How he does and what he does is truly unnerving and it makes for a hell of an interesting watch when you think about the drought of original movies.  I gave it 4/5 and Bat gave it 3/5 but we both highly recommend this movie to any and all.

Welcome back everyone to this weeks edition of Sprecken ze Geek. With no movies of interest for us and pretty slow news day we decided it would be a great time to bring back the Geek Roundtable! This week we are joined by Sarah and TK as we delve into our thoughts on who we’d marry, awkward dating experiences, awkward convention experiences as well as what costumes we’re looking forward to making this year. You will have to pardon the rather large amount of “Meows” this episode as we kind of dive a bit into my dating life and also say somethings we shouldn’t. But if this crazy show is as fun to listen to as it was to edit then I think you’re in for a few laughs.

This week we also review last weeks streaming suggestion of Ask Me Anything. No one ever likes to say a movie is bad, but really this movie is BAD. If you take production and music out of the picture there really isn’t all too much redeemable about it. It has big name actors but it really feels like it squanders their potential. The main character really doesn’t give us anything to empathize with her and it just left me wish it was over quicker. Even the “M. Night” twist like ending of the story just didn’t grab me. We gave this movie a 2 out of 5 stars and highly recommend that you all stay far away from it.

I would have used Mammoth but , you know… wrong time period.  Anyways, we were excited for this one just on name alone and if box office is any indication we weren’t the only ones.  We provide you both a spoiler free review and a spoiler filled review of the movie.

This weeks nerd news includes: Jon Bernthal being cast as Punisher in Daredevil season 2, oh yeah and we’re getting Daredevil season 2, Gamefly offering a streaming game service, Oculus Rift release, Halo 5 details, Dishonored 2 announced, Doom game play and Fallout 4 release date.

We also want to take a moment to acknowledge the fine work and loss of a legend as this last week saw the passing of the great Christopher Lee.  Rest in peace good sir, you will be fondly remembered

Welcome back to all of our returning listeners and greetings to all of our new listeners from this years Phoenix Comic Con.  We had a wonderful audience for our live panel on Thursday and just wanted to say thank you for all who came and especially for those who participated.  You all seriously were a part of one of our favorite Con memories this year.  Phew it was a hell of a weekend and we have some stories to tell.  Since we’re getting back into the mode of things we decided to hit up another theatrical release, this time we went and saw San Andreas.  Now normally we offer a spoiler free to start off with and a spoiler filled review at the end of the podcast but we really didn’t feel the need for a spoiler filled review.  Beyond giving our thoughts on San Andreas and going over PHXCC we also delve a bit into this weeks nerd news, some Hammer’s Free Shit Good Shit and end it all with our spoiler filled review of Episodes 7 & 8 of Game of Thrones.

3 weeks in and we are already hitting a wall of sorts, so many movies coming out and so little time.  We are having to pick and choose which big movie gets our hard earned dollars.  Last week we choose Mad Max over Pitch Perfect 2 (I think we made the right choice here) and this week we chose Poltergeist over Tomorrowland.  Was this the right decision?  Well listen in to find out

This weeks streaming review is Noah.  Both Bat and myself were more than disappointed by this 2 hour bob the biblical builder movie.  Russel Crowe plays the titular character and he does an okay job but really the movie just doesn’t have a lot to it.  Big Boat, tiny bit of rain and a whole lot of God’s wrath was what we were expecting but really it was more a lot of building and no real destruction.  Over all we both agreed that we didn’t really care for it and gave it 2 stars on Netflix.

Now being the week of PCC we are going to take a break from both our streaming reviews and GoT episode reviews but we will be back after this next episode and in full force.  In the meantime if you want to send us some suggestions for our next streaming review please choose you method of recommendation below.

The Fun continues this week as we review Mad Max: Fury Road.  This movie excited me for the pure fact that it looked gorgeous and had cars AND explosions.  You can’t ask for much more than that can you?  There was the fact that beyond the first trailer I hadn’t seen much or read much else about the movie, which made it a near complete surprise.  As always we provide you a spoiler free review of the movie but stay tuned to the end of the podcast where we really get into the movie with our spoiler filled review!  And because we love seeing movie with people we brought a few friends of the podcast along for the ride.  Terry and TK join us for a fun long winded podcast with more than a few bad Bane impressions. Also continuing this week is our Game of Thrones season 5 spoiler review right before the Mad Max spoiler review.

This weeks streaming review is The Babadook, care of Bat.  Lets get it out of the way, this movie freaked me out a bit.  Hell the trailer did a number on me.  While Bat and I gave it 3/5 stars for us liking it “well enough” we might recommend you watching something else unless you really enjoy horror flicks.  There are a lot of cool concepts here but they aren’t always well executed, with the ending being a bit sticking point for us both.  We hoped that they would have left a little more to the imagination.  But instead this is very much a one and done kind of movie with no real re-watchability.  If the trailer grabs you then you are good to go, but otherwise move along.

Holy crap in some corn flakes (that’s a thing right?)!  Avengers: Age of Ultron is here and so begins the 2015 Summer Movie season!  Damn right I’m excited, I mean we started this whole thing because of our love of movies and this is like Christmas to cinemagoers or a time were your wallet literally weeps over the amount of money you spend….  Either way it should be an entertaining couple of months and if this movie is any sign of whats to come, sign me the hell up!  

So back to business as always we will give you a spoiler free review of the movie as well as a spoiler filled review at the end of the show.  Also keeping with the past weeks we review episodes 3 & 4 of Game of Thrones season 5.  Not too much in terms of nerd news but it’s still some good stuff as we discuss Suicide Squad cast pictures, P.T. and the possible collapse of Konami, Joss Wedon quitting twitter and we finish it all off with a bit of Hammer’s Soap box.

This weeks streaming review is the HBO documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.  Over all we both felt that the documentary was alright, a bit long and didn’t really provide to much new information about Scientology as a whole.  Definitely not bad by any means but merely looking at it as a documentary it was pretty standard.  The subject matter however was a wonderful conversation starter.

We all know how much I love horror movies (sarcasm)… okay maybe I’m being dramatic because I do like quite a few.  But this weeks streaming review The Babadook, care of Bat, really has me freaked out.  Just watch the trailer below and tell me what you think.  I foresee nightmares in my future….

1 more week kiddos… and then the begginging of Summer Movie season 2015 is upon us!  But until we bring you this weeks streaming review, a spoiler filled review of Game of Thrones Episode 3 and some nerd news.  This weeks topics include TellTale making a Marvel game in 2017, Leto’s Joker reveal, Mass Effect 4 and remastered collection reveal as well as some discussions on the reviews of Avengers 2 and why we think some of these big budget movies get released overseas first (no internet searches allowed).

This weeks suggestion of A Million Ways to Die in the West was brought to you by Bat (though it was on my list as well).  We have very moderate to low expectations from this movie due to the consistent reviews on and off line for this new Seth McFarland venture.  Sadly we were still let down.  In general we found more wrong with this movie than right with it.  The jokes that were funny were ridden way to long to the point that you forgot why you laughed in the first place.  I wanted to have a good time watching this movie but even for a dumb comedy this one just failed to entertain.  Really if we both think you would be better spending your time watching Blazing Saddles if you are in the mood for a wild west comedy.  We both give it an imaginary 2 stars (no ratings on HBOgo) 

Next week we keep with suggesting movies for ourselves with the HBO documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief. We both love documentaries and this one is about a subject we are both interested in picking apart.  Tune in next week for our review but don’t forget you can submit your own review to be read on the show.
