Hello all and welcome back to another episode of Sprecken ze Geek and we are getting back to the format. This week we tackle some good oll Nerd News: Marvel movie announcements and schedule adjustments, Far Cry Primal, Star Wars Battlefront Beta impressions, Jessica Jones teasers and PS4 gets a price drop. We also have this weeks streaming review and we start up season 2 of True Detective.
This weeks first streaming suggestion for our Horror themed month was Dream House. To start off we both agree that while we enjoyed this movie, it’s not really horror but more of a suspense flick. Now with that out of the way, we can move onto the rest of the review. We enjoyed how Craig’s delusions really started to break down and fall apart but would have preferred that the trailer not have given away this twist. With that plot point out in the open it kind of ruined the “shock” that one was supposed to feel as his fake world crashed headlong with reality. The performances were pretty well done but nothing too spectacular and if you were looking for scares you won’t find too much here. We both gave it 3/5 on Netflix but wouldn’t recommend it too highly, especially if you’ve had the movie ruined by the trailer.
Next weeks streaming suggestion continues our Month of Horror! Oculus is the second entry, provided by one myself. I’m pretty sure I’m going to come to regret this suggestion as this move really looks like it fits the horror aspect of the month. heck out the trailer below to see what I mean… I need a buddy for this one.

Hello all and welcome back to another episode of Sprecken ze Geek. We’re back after a very busy and fun weekend out at Salt Lake City Comic Con and we have some stories. This episode we decide keep it lean on the news front and focus on our thoughts and experiences from SLCC as well as review this weeks theatrical release of The Martian and our last Cage Streaming review of The Frozen Ground.
This weeks streaming suggestion was the 4th and final movie in our month of Cage, The Frozen Ground. Now this one was a surprise to both of us. While Bat only watched half of it before it was pulled from Netflix, he was really digging what he did see of the movie. I on the other hand just steam rolled through this thing. It’s based off of true events, which makes it honestly that much more terrifying. The acting by Cage was pretty good but honestly its Cusack who steals the show. His portrayal of the main antagonist is truly unnerving. The pacing and cinematography are all on point and it made for a damn good movie. Over all I was extremely pleased with it and gave it a 4/5. Worth the watch, even if only once.

Good Monday Morning (or whenever it is you are listening to this) to you all and welcome back for this brief but still just as good episode of Sprecken ze Geek. This last week was a busy one for both Bat and myself and we decided that with Salt Lake City Comic Con on the horizon we would take a little breather from news. We both discuss our costumes and plans for SLCC as well as plans following the con and our streaming review of Joe.
This weeks streaming suggestion, and 3rd movie in our month of Cage, was Joe. Both Bat and myself agreed that this movie felt very incomplete. There are quite a few hanging threads that just left the whole movie feeling unfinished and a bit of a mess. Bat put it best when he said that this movie could have done with a once over by a good editor to bring the movie in a bit more and make a tighter story. I thought this one reminded me of one of our previous streaming suggestions, Mud, but I enjoyed that one. This movie got a 2/5 stars from myself and Bat gave it 3/5. As with all of these movies so far, this one is not something that needs to be seen and your time can be best spent elsewhere.

That is all for this week’s Podcast. We will be taking next week off since we both will be out of town for SLCC but we will be back in the swing of things the following week. In the mean time be sure to keep your eyes pealed for costuming pictures from the floor.

Hello all and welcome back to another Cage-a-licious episode of Sprecken ze Geek. We continue the ill-begotten month of Nicholas Cage movies. This week we review the bad movie of choice, Left Behind. Though we kind of forget about doing the streaming review till the very end of the episode, i guess you could say we almost left you …hanging. You thought I was going to make another bad Left Behind pun didn’t you? Too bad, so sad. Besides the streaming review we skip our theatrical review, not too much out there I can motivate Bat to go see. But we do have a decent amount of nerd news including: Jessica Jones trailer released, Ronda Rousey in Roadhouse remake, mobile app Pokemon Go, Uncharted 4 release date, Apple TV to focus on gaming and Epix and Netflix movie deal comes to an end. We also take a moment to have a like B&H bullshit where Bat discusses his time with the Mad Max game and I give my review of Man from U.N.C.L.E. as well as audiobook, The Martian.
If you want to send us your reviews of this weeks choice or even suggestions for next weeks final Nick Cage themed streaming review please sent them to us using any of the means below.

Welcome back yall! Here’s another 2 shows in a row. I only mention this fact because we’ve been a little on and off over the past 2 months due to many adventures by both Bat and I. Which, just as a forewarning, we will probably be missing another episode or two due to a very busy September for us. But in the mean time this week we are treated to the first movie in a Month of Cage. It started out as a joke and then escalated rather quickly into a month long bad Cage movie-thon… this is going to be fun. First we bring you our streaming review of the Manikin Skywalker and Nick Cage movie, Outcast. On top of that we also discuss the Force Friday toy release, Megaman movie possible with Fox, Halo 5 intro movie, Chris Evans on returning as Captain America and some behind the scenes drama at Marvel Studios.
As stated last episode back on Episode 106 we decided to put a bet on Antman’s domestic gross and we both lost. There is video proof on our Facebook page for all of you to view and enjoy. Take heed, ice cold Smirnoff Ice is the devil.
This Week’s dynamic duo of Hayden Christenson and Nicolas Cage brought us the special little movie called Outcast. Hayden hasn’t really been known for grade A acting and Cage has been notoriously bad, especially as of late. Neither of these disappointed, well the did but not in the normal matter. To put it blandly this is bad. Acting wise, cinematography, action wise, story wise… the list goes on and on. Again this movie is not good and I think both of us want to make a new game of naming movies that are rated better than Fantastic Four but are waaaaay worse. This is one of them. I gave it 2/5 stars (generous) and Bat gave it an honest 1/5. Don’t waste your time unless you enjoy VERY bad movies that guest star Cage.
Next weeks streaming suggestion comes from myself and is the 2nd in our month of Cage. This time we are ‘treating’ ourselves to the religious remake, Left Behind. Oh this ones gonna be bad so be forewarned. Watch the trailer and be mortified or very curious… we’re a little of both again.

Welcome back everyone to another episode of Sprecken ze Geek. We are now both back and ready to talk! No theatrical review this week but we do discuss last episodes streaming review of The Guest and then dive right into this weeks Nerd News: Lionsgate making a Borderlands movie, First images of Michael Fassbender’s outfit from Assassins Creed movie, Suicide Squad wraps filming, Metal Gear 5 and lament Star Wars spoilers (without really talking about them… because we hate spoilers).
Final tally and cost of each of our movie watching season. Cost is calculated with average $9 ticket price
Also back on Episode 106 we decided to put a bet on Antman’s domestic gross. Needless to say we both lost with Antman’s current (and for the matter of this bed we will call it Final) Domestic Gross is sitting at 161 Milion. There was video proof taken and it will be posted as soon as the Webmistress gets the video to us (funny enough we mention how that was a bad idea on this episode).
For this weeks streaming review we watched The Guest which was suggested by listener Kristi. For this movie we both went in with no expectations and came out with mixed reactions. The movie is far from great but there are some bits of promise here. Sadly, neither of us felt that it ever really panned out. It felt like the movie was trying to be two things and we both agreed that it should have stuck with the idea that he was a disturbed drifter/discharged soldier. The ‘sci-fi’ twist felt rushed and just ruined the momentum of the movie. We both gave it a hesitant 3 out of 5 stars and warn anyone who ventures into the movie to possibly look elsewhere.

Welcome back everyone to another episode of Sprecken ze Geek. We were on such a roll with two weeks on time that we thought we deserved a week off… it was totally planned and everything. But here we are back and in full force as well bring you a spoiler free and spoiler filled review of Fantastic Four as well as a quickie review of Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation. We also discuss last episodes streaming review of Hercules before we dig into this weeks Nerd News: Sesame Street coming to HBO, DC Powerless
TV show announced, Games Comm Announcements, Constantine coming to Arrow, Black Panther Stunt suit, Beetle Juice 2, Hateful 8 trailer, Westworld teaser for HBO, and Some early D23 news.
For this weeks streaming review we watched the Rock’s Hercules. Right out of the gate we both weren’t really expecting much. I personally thought it was a perfectly OK action movie and gave it 3/5 stars, nothing great about it and no rush to see it. But Bat took many issues with it in terms of acting/CG/story and just over predictability, he gave it 2/5 stars. Although our scores are different I totally understand and agree with Bat on most all of his points. This movie is not good, it’s okay at best, but it is easily forgettable. I loved the approach of essentially doing what the Clive Owen King Arthur movie did to the Arthurian legend but with Hercules. But overall this movie felt like an unfinished and unrealized concept of a good movie. Skip it or see it, you won’t be missing too much either way.
Next weeks streaming suggestion comes from listener Kristi, she previously suggested Grave Encounters for an earlier episode. The Guest is a movie neither of us have heard of before but it looks to have some good ratings online so we’re both looking forward going into this one blind and seeing what we get.

Welcome back everyone to another on time edition of Sprecken ze Geek. That makes it two in a row! I’m so proud. This week we bring you a review of Vacation, along with my review of Train Wreck. Both of these are spoiler free mainly because we didn’t want to ruin the jokes for Vacation and Train Wreck was only seen by myself. We also bring you our streaming review of Gone Girl, nerd news including Jena Malone casting rumors, Chris Pine in Wonder Woman, Voting coming to future PS plus games, Channing Tatum leaving Gambit followed by True Detective season 1 episode 6 review.
For this weeks streaming review we watched Gone Girl (or as I called it Gone Baby, Gone). Besides knowing it involved a missing wife and Ben Affleck we both went into this one pretty blind. And I can say that I’m rather glad that we did as this movie is intense. There were plenty of chances that this movie could have been spoiled but we both had been pretty lucky. I think we both came out of this one thinking that we (meaning me) should be careful dating… like holy shit this movie could give you trust issues. But we both really enjoyed it and rated it on our Netflix scale (since HBO doesn’t have one) with Bat giving it 4/5 and I gave it 5/5. Definitely give this one a watch.

Welcome back everyone to a surprisingly on time edition of Sprecken ze Geek. This was what we life to call a slow news week which means you’re getting quite a bit more blab from the Bat and myself. This week we give half a review of Pixels, a full review of our streaming movie, discuss the rule of “third titles”, get a little deep and wrap it up with the True Detective season 1 episode 5 review.
For this weeks streaming review we were finally able to watch The Wolf of Wall Street. Keeping it short and sweet (definitely not like the movie) we both liked it. Bat really enjoyed it and gave it a 5/5 stars (rare, I know) while I gave it 3/5. We both agreed that 3 hours was a bit much and that there were more than a few scenes that could have been trimmed to some extent. But Leo’s acting in this one is steller and worth the watch alone. The movie is just one hell of a roller coaster ride of WTF and did you see that coupled with more drugs that a Hunter S. Thompson novel and Scarface combined. So one way or another give this one a chance and sit back for the ride,
Next week we’re going to go a bit more serious with Gone Girl (or as I called it Gone Baby, Gone). This movie can be found on HBOgo.

Welcome back everyone to another delayed edition of Sprecken ze Geek. Remember that whole life lesson I talked about a couple of months ago, you know the one about remembering to save your work? Well I had to learn it again… learning sucks sometimes. But I like to think that your’re getting a better product by me being much more awake this time. Well that’s my hope anyways.
We also review our last streaming review choice of Rose Water. Now I had originally thought that this was a documentary but it is actually a movie based on true events. Over all we both enjoyed this one with Bat giving it 4/5 and myself giving it 3/5 on Netflix. Funny enough the parts involving the main character in solitary, which the parts that I thought we’re the weaker ones, were the ones that Bat enjoyed the most. Over all we both recommend this movie for anyone wanting an interesting glimpse into a repetitively foreign world to most Americans as well as being based on events that happened fairly recently.
For next weeks streaming review we dive back in time and take a second swing at watching The Wolf of Wall Street. You may, or may not, remember when we tried to watch this a couple of months back using the EpixHD streaming app and failed miserably. Well it’s on Netflix now and we want to watch this movie that everyone is talking about. Bat more so for Margo Robbie than anyone else.
