  • Marrying Differently II

    According to US Census data, in 2021, 34% of adults age 15 and over had never been married, up from 23% in 1950. The estimated median age to marry for the first time was 30.4 for men and 28.6 for women in early 2021, up from ages 23.7 and 20.5, respectively, in 1947. The percentage of married-couple households that are interracial or interethnic grew across the United States from 7.4 to 10.2 percent from 2000 to 2012-to 2016.  Inter-marital relationships and how to deal with and enjoy inter-cultural marriage and interracial relationships are the subjects of our episode this week. Issues covered include finances, loving differently, and setting cultural expectations. This is Part II.

  • The Dichotomy of Fatherhood

    There is a global crisis brewing, the shortage of fathers. According to the U.S. Census Bureau,  19.5 Million children, more than 1 in 4, live without a father in the home. More than 20 million children live in a home without the physical presence of a father.  There are two issues highlighted in this episode, namely, the society at large's impact on fathers and secondly, the lack of proper attention to men's healthcare issues.

    This week, we discuss interracial, intercultural, and intertribal marriages and how to cope with marrying outside one’s background.   • African Immigrant Privilege

    According to Stacker, The American Police killed 1,144 people killed by police in 2021, according to Mapping Police Violence, up from 1,132 people in 2020. Despite making up only 13% of the American population, Black people represent 23% of those killed by law enforcement in 2021. Police brutality, micro-aggression, racism, and excessive use of force in law enforcement  some would argue is more prevalent among African Americans. In today's episode, we compare the tale of African Immigrants to that of African Americans. How do Africans perceive  their black counterparts who have been in America or Europe but are descendants of slaves forcefully and in most cases, brutally removed from Africa? Can we seek to understand the dichotomy of the two black African tale?

    Students of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, Nother Nigeria  lynched a 200 level female student of the Department of Early Childhood Education, Deborah Yakubu, over an allegation of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammed on May 12, 2022. Deborah was violently stoned to death and later set ablaze by the angry mob, who are mostly students of the college. In this episode, we discuss the religious tensions in Nigeria, President Buhari, Abubakar Atiku, the upcoming election as well as the roots of religious tensions in Nigeria since independence in 1960. This is the concluding and second episode in this series.
