Battle-Born Athlete

Gillian Staudt is a triathlete coming out of Michigan. The three sports that she specializes is swimming, running and bicycling. She was able to represent USA being top in her age group. Even though, she is not a professional athlete yet, she still continues to train and work hard to get that opportunity.

Alex Highsmith is a native to Wilmington, NC. He has always had a love for football but never had much success in the sport growing up. He went through high school experiencing losing football seasons every year. When it came to playing college football, he didn’t have much attention in his direction. UNCC was the only school to take a chance on him as a preferred walk on, and the rest is history. He went from no-star football player to an All-American football player. He was drafted to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 3rd round of this year’s draft and has recently signed a 4 year deal with the Steelers. In this episode, he will tell his story and steps on how to become a professional athlete.

Mariella Santucci, a native to Bologna,Italy, has taken after her father, a former professional player. Mariella started playing basketball at a young age. Shortly after hooping for Italy’s national team, she had the opportunity to take her talents to the United States. The message of her story is to not fear the unknown. Her parents said she wouldn’t make it in the states for two reasons...

1. Language barrier

2. Her skills may not be able to compete with Americans.

She proved to her friends and family that she could do it and became successful in achieving basketball awards playing in the states at the University of Toledo.

Cheatham Norrils, a Toledo, OH native, has been blessed with many opportunities in the professional realm, specializing at the defensive back position. His story is filled with inspirations and adversities. Cheatham was a great two-sport athlete until he had to choose football going into the first year of Toledo. His inspirational story starts when he had to undergo unfortunate health issues which almost cut his life short. However, he overcame such struggle and was able to pursue his football career in great strides and strength. Currently, he has been training everyday waiting for the next opportunity that presents itself to make it back on the professional gridiron.

Nya Jordan, a Detroit, MI native, is an overseas basketball professional athlete in France specializing at the forward position. Despite being from the stereotypical city of poverty, crime and violence, she was able to shine light in her journey and experiences, finding a way to the top. She has won numerous awards such as All Team honorable mention, preseason All-American, and finalist of Miss basketball in MI. Currently, she has been training everyday in the gym so she can get ready to go back to France and start the season on fire.

Treyvon Hester, a Wilkinsburg, PA native, is a professional athlete in the NFL, specializing at the position of Defensive End. Although Wilkinsburg was one of the top areas for crime in Pennsylvania, he was still able to persevere and accomplish many things in his football career. Some of these accomplishments include being second team All Mac, being written about in many newspaper articles, and elected to be in the pro bowl. He is currently training for the upcoming NFL season with the Green Bay Packers.

Keturah Orji, a New Jersey native, is a professional athlete in track and field. Specializing in the Long jump and triple jump events. Her accomplishments in her career was being a five time US champion, an eight time collegiate champion and was name woman of the decade. She went from racing boys at a young age in schools to competing at a high level representing for the USA team. She is currently training for the next Olympics to shine and looking to break records.

Taj Davis Spencer, a California native, is a professional overseas basketball player in the midst of signing another contract with an European team. He has won numerous awards throughout his basketball career, being male athlete of the year the most memorable. Linnea, a Maryland native, is a professional athlete for the USA field hockey team. She was a bronze and silver medalist and has also won an All-American award. Linnea is a very energetic and passionate player which you will certainly get a sense from in this episode. Her dedication to her sport is evident as she actively continues to pursue more goals in her upcoming seasons.
