Changes in Life

We’re not sure where we are or where we are going. It might be moving house, a new job or a new school. Sometimes it’s more unexpected changes like redundancy, a financial crisis or ill health. The land in between can be lonely and frightening.

Abram’s Faith is Tested

Abram found himself called into the land in between. It was here that his faith was tested and shaped. He came through it.

God Meets Us in Our Land in Between

As this sermon on Genesis 12 1-5 reminds us, God meets us in our land in between. He wants to speak with us and to bring us through it. God cares. He understands and he is there in the land in between.

What is Mission

Mission is much less about standing on street corner shouting the Good News at people and more about living as a true disciple of Jesus around those we are daily in contact with.

As You Go, Jesus Promises to be With You

As disciples go, Jesus comes to them and stays.

So, what are you waiting for? Will you go? Will you live out the gospel message with your words and with your deeds?

Your tongue betrays what is really in your heart. The tongue that blesses God but curses people is spiritually unfit. James calls on all of us to be consistent people.

Allow the Holy Spirit to Control What You Say

How? By allowing the Holy Spirit to control your tongue.

Worry Accomplishes Nothing

In this sermon about worry, we’re reminded that Jesus knows not only that worry will not add a single hour to your life, but that realistically, it will take time away from our lifespan. It accomplishes nothing.

God Cares for Our Daily Needs

If God cares for the birds, then how much more does he care for us If he clothes the flowers than how much more will he clothe us? There is no need to worry, but simply to place our lives and needs in God’s hands.

Replace Worry with Trust

Jesus’ words would sound wrong, if he were not encouraging us to replace our worry with trust.

Unthinking Worship

Paul uses the metaphor of sacrifice deliberately. In the ancient world, religion was sacrifice. But the system was open to abuse: people offered sacrifices without considering their attitude or sincerity.

True Worship

Our true worship can be nothing else than giving all of ourselves to God as a living sacrifice. As we understand God’s grace in our lives, our only reasonable response is to give ourselves to him as a sacrifice.

God’s Word is a Mirror

God’s Word is like a mirror. It allows self-examination. But if you only glance at yourself in God’s Word and then walk away you are deceiving yourself. James says if you look deeply into God’s Word then you cannot forget what you see about yourself.

Look Deeply into God’s Word

If you want to be the best version of yourself, then look deeply and intently into God’s Word. But that’s not enough. We have to do what God’s Word says.

Jesus believes you can live this way. He believes you can live like he lived.

Holiness: Learning to Be Like Jesus

Ours is not a life like everyone else’s with a sprinkling of Jesus on the side. Discipleship is about giving your entire life to Christ, denying yourself and taking up your cross.
In other words, we are to be like Jesus. To learn from him.

Be Careful How You Live
Paul says, be very careful how you live. Live to please God.

That takes energy and effort. Spiritual maturity and holiness only come with work. It takes time.
Filled with the Holy Spirit
What happens when you stop wasting time and invest more time in your life with God? The Holy Spirit becomes the dominating influence in your life. You are filled with the Holy Spirit:

1. You overflow in song.
2. You have a radical spirit of gratitude.
3. You submit to Christ.

So, are you filled with the Holy Spirit?

The problem is we are not totally set apart, we are still in the world. To live a life of holiness seems impossible, but it is a divine command.


Redemption Makes Us Holy
In our fallen state and in our dirty, messy world, how can we ever hope to be holy as God is holy? The answer is redemption. We can be holy, because God has made us holy.
Will You Live a Life of Holiness?
Will you be God’s best china? Will you live a life of holiness in the light of your redemption?

Bible Text: John 6:35-51 | Preacher: Lieutenant Rob Westwood-Payne | Series: Jesus Meets Needs | We hunger and thirst for physical, security, social and status and purpose needs. The problem is the ways we often seek these needs have only momentary satisfaction. We are never satisfied.


Satisfy Your Hunger and Thirst with the Bread of Life
Jesus says don’t seek to satisfy your hunger and thirst from human activity and aspirations. Instead, seek nourishment from bread from heaven.

Our true hunger and thirst will only ever be satisfied by being fed by God. All we have to do is to listen in simplicity and piety and learn from him.
