  • Can Donald Trump shrug off the Signal chat leak? | BBC Americast
What constitutes a ‘war plan’ and when is information ‘classified’?
After the revelation that the editor of The Atlantic was included in a sensitive group chat discussing plans to bomb Yemen, the magazine has taken the decision to publish the whole conversation discussing operational details of the attack.
The publication says it took the decision after repeated statements from top Republicans stating that no classified information was revealed to Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg.
As the fallout continues from the leak, the Americast team discuss how the mistake will impact Donald Trump, the White House strategy for dealing with the crisis, and whether could prompt the first firing of Trump's second term.

  • Earthquake rescue teams face horror and helplessness as trapped victims cry for help | BBC News
Rescue workers are desperately searching for survivors after a powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar. The shocks were so powerful that tremors rocked neighbouring China and Thailand, where many are also missing after buildings collapsed.
Myanmar declared a state of emergency across much of the country. At least 144 people are known to have died and more than 700 are injured but it’s feared that many more have lost their lives. The epicentre of the 7.7 magnitude quake was near the country's second city of Mandalay. The generals who run the isolated and secretive military regime have made a rare appeal for international help.

Hundreds of miles away in Thailand’s capital Bangkok about 100 workers are missing after a 30-storey skyscraper which was under construction collapsed in seconds.   Rescue teams have been working through the night in the search for survivors.
Jane Hill presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Caroline Hawley, Nick Marsh and Pallab Ghosh.

  • US Vice-President JD Vance addresses media in Greenland | BBC News
US Vice-President JD Vance and wife Usha visited Greenland on Friday to “check out security”, but many locals are worried there's a political agenda to the visit.
Vance addressed the media saying that there are no immediate plans to expand the US military presence in Greenland, but added he’s seen “very strong evidence" that China and Russia are interested in this area.
The vice-president also criticised Denmark saying "Our message to Denmark is simple, you have not done a good job for the people of Greenland. This is why Trump's policy is what it is."
Greenland's Acting Prime Minister Mute B Egede said "Just for the record, the government of Greenland has not extended any invitations for any visits, neither private nor official."

  • Myanmar earthquake: What is a 7.7 magnitude earthquake? | BBC News
A 7.7 magnitude earthquake - which the US Geological Survey says had an epicentre in central Myanmar - has also been felt in neighbouring countries, including Thailand where an unfinished high-rise has collapsed.
But what do we mean when we say a 7.7 magnitude earthquake?
BBC science reporter Esme Stallard explains that it's a measure of momentum and how much movement there has been in the top layer of the earth.
Mynamar is a very tectonically active region - as it's situated at the junction of 4 tectonic plates.
However the magnitude of the earthquake is unusual - the BBC believe the reason was because the earthquake occurred only 10 killometres below the earth's crust.

  • Man Utd owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe says club “will come out fighting” | Extended interview | BBC News
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the billionaire co-owner of Manchester United, has told BBC Sports Editor Dan Roan that the football club has “come off the rails” but will show grit and resilience and “come out the other side fighting”.
The 72-year-old spent £1.3 billion buying a 29% stake in the club in 2024, in a deal which saw Ineos take control of football operations. Ratcliffe, a lifelong Manchester United fan, is chairman of the petrochemicals company which has a big sport investment arm.
In a wide-ranging interview with BBC Sport earlier this month Ratcliffe addressed the side's recent struggles on the pitch, as they languish in the bottom third of the Premier League table.
He said some Manchester United players are "not good enough" and some are "overpaid”. Midfielder Casemiro, striker Rasmus Hojlund, goalkeeper Andre Onana, and wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho - who are on loan at other clubs - were name-checked by the billionaire as players his regime had "inherited".
Ratcliffe also spoke of the club's financial difficulties, saying it was set to run out of money by the end of 2025, unless it took action which he admitted was "unpopular".
Yet despite the financial and team issues he referred to, Ratcliffe repeated a pledge that Manchester United would win silverware by 2028.
