  • What's next in Trump's Iran plan? | Global News Podcast
Over the course of a few days, between a golf outing and a visit to the home of Elvis Presley, US President Donald Trump has said contrasting statements on the US-Israel war with Iran: That he is "winding down" the operation, yet he also threatened to "obliterate" Iran's power plants unless Tehran lifted its blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
He then postponed those strikes, saying there had been constructive talks with Iran. Iranian officials have denied that any contact with the US had taken place.
A growing list of countries are said to be trying to mediate between Washington and Tehran, including Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt. And there are reports that Vice-President JD Vance, an outspoken opponent of long wars, could join the negotiations - which some analysts say is a possible change of strategy.
What is next in President Trump's plan for ending the war? Is there an exit strategy?
We speak to the BBC's North America correspondent Anthony Zurcher, who travelled with the president to Graceland.

  • Philippines has '45 days of fuel left', declaring state of emergency from Iran war | BBC News
The Philippines has declared a state of national energy emergency, citing the "imminent danger" posed to the country's fuel supplies by the conflict in the Middle East.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr said he had signed an executive order to safeguard energy security amid severe disruption to global supply chains.
The US-Israel war with Iran - and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route - has sent shock waves through global energy markets, causing soaring prices and shortages.
The Philippines is highly dependent on fuel imports and particularly vulnerable to disruptions in production and shipments.

What has happened in Venezuela since US forces seized president Nicolas Maduro?

The BBC’s South America correspondent, Ione Wells, has been in Caracas to find out how much life has altered under Rodriguez’s leadership, and to what extend Donald Trump may see this regime change as a blueprint for US intervention elsewhere.

  • Vet prescription fees to be capped in overhaul to veterinarian sector costs in UK | BBC News
Written prescription fees will be capped at £21 and practices will have to publish price lists of services in a major shake up to the UK's veterinarian sector.
The Competition and Markets Authority also said a price comparison website would be introduced to help boost competition and drive down prices faced by consumers.
The measures come after an in-depth investigation by the watchdog, which found prices had been rising at nearly twice the rate of inflation.
The British Veterinary Association said the measures "will help pet owners make more informed choices" but said vet practices had not been immune to rising prices.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said its attacks on Iran and Lebanon would continue. It has continued its airstrikes on Iran’s capital Tehran. Iran has fired more missiles at the United Arab Emirates and at Saudi Arabia.

  • Why has US President Trump postponed his ultimatum on the Strait of Hormuz? | BBC News
US President Trump has extended his initial 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to unblock the Strait of Hormuz to five days. The president said Iran has "one more chance at peace", following what he called “good and productive conversations”.
