  • Iran War: Trump warns Israel not to hit oil and gas sites as energy crisis deepens | BBC News
President Trump says he had told Israel not to repeat its attacks on Iranian gas infrastructure, following tit-for-tat strikes that sent energy prices soaring .
Iran responded ‌to an Israeli attack on a major gas field by hitting Qatar's Ras Laffan site, which processes around a fifth of the world's liquefied natural gas. The damage will take years to repair. Iran has warned that it will show “zero restraint” if there are further attacks on its energy infrastructure.
Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel "acted alone" in attacking the Iranian gas field, as tensions mount over strikes on energy infrastructure across the region.
The attacks led to another spike in energy prices and US President Donald Trump later posted he had not known about them in advance. It’s raised more questions over how united Israel and the US remain in their war aims.
Netanyahu also denied that his country had dragged the US into the war or "misled" Trump, saying that no one could tell the US leader what to do.

  • US-Israel war with Iran enters its 20th day | BBC News
Energy prices surge after strikes hit part of the world’s largest natural gas field shared between Iran and Qatar. Donald Trump said he had no knowledge of the strike and wants Israel not to do it again.
But Iran responds damaging energy plants in several Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
A US fighter jet was forced to make an emergency landing at a US base in the Middle East after flying over Iran. Iranian authorities are claiming they struck the jet and said it was seriously damaged.
Meanwhile in Lebanon, authorities say that more than 1,000 people have now been killed as a result of Israeli strikes on the country. Israel says it’s targeting Hezbollah strongholds.

  • You can now walk the whole way around England | BBC News
A new footpath stretching around the entire coast of England has officially opened.
At 2,689 miles long, it is the longest managed coastal walking route in the world, according to Natural England, the government body which created it.
For the first time, the King Charles III England Coast Path creates a continuous trail, allowing walkers to explore England's shoreline step by step.
At an average of 15 miles a day, it would take almost half a year to complete, assuming no rest days.
Our Climate Editor Justin Rowlatt takes a look.

  • Rising energy prices and what they mean for US President Trump | Global News Podcast
The global economy continues to fluctuate as a result of the US-Israel war with Iran.
Energy prices are surging after a series of strikes on key oil and gas facilities over the last 48 hours — an Israeli attack on Iran's South Pars gas field was followed by fresh Iranian strikes on energy plants in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. And Tehran's blockade in the Strait of Hormuz has stopped most oil and gas tankers from getting through.
President Donald Trump has said that the US has "all the oil we need", but the price of oil and gas is increasing world-wide. It is now more expensive for millions of people to fill their cars with petrol, and heat their homes. And soon, analysts warn, rising energy costs could translate to higher food prices as well.
With the cost of living expected to be a significant factor in the US midterm elections later this year, could the growing economic pressure be what leads President Trump to end the war?
We ask the BBC's business editor Simon Jack what it means for the average consumer, and the future of the conflict.

  • US-Israel war with Iran: Why is Hezbollah in the news? | The Global Story
Shortly after the US-Israel war with Iran began, a second war broke out between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Lebanese authorities say that more than 900 people, including at least 111 children, have been killed in Israeli attacks since 2 March.
More than a million others have been forced to leave their homes. On Wednesday, Israel widened its air strikes from the southern suburbs of Beirut into the city centre. And there are fears that what Israel has called a “limited” ground operation could lead to an occupation of the south.
Israel says it is targeting not only Hezbollah fighters and leaders, but also businesses it claims are linked to the group and help finance its military operations.
From his post in Beirut, BBC Middle East correspondent Hugo Bachega explains the long history of the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, and we ask what could come next.

  • Sri Lanka declared Wednesdays a day off - what’s it like? | BBC News
Earlier this week, Sri Lanka declared every Wednesday a holiday for public institutions to conserve fuel as the island nation grapples with possible shortages in the wake of the US and Israel's war with Iran.
This is the latest in a series of belt-tightening measures undertaken by Asian countries since the war choked off the Strait of Hormuz, which used to carry millions of barrels of oil from the Gulf into the region.
The BBC’s Harini Dissanayake reports from the country the day after the shutdown.

  • UK and allies condemn Iran attacks on oil and gas facilities | BBC News
In a joint statement, the leaders of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan, have condemned Iran's attacks on civilian infrastructure, and have called on it to stop its threats to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
“Freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law," the statement from the leaders of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan said.
"The effects of Iran’s actions will be felt by people in all parts of the world, especially the most vulnerable."
The group also expressed its "readiness" to contribute to "appropriate efforts" to ensure safe passage through the vital shipping channel, which around 20% of global energy supplies pass through.
The price of gas has risen sharply in the UK and Europe following Iran's attack on Qatar's Ras Laffan energy complex.
Iran's strike was in response to Israel hitting its South Pars gas field, located offshore in the Gulf, between Iran and Qatar.

  • Trump threatens to ‘massively blow up’ major Iranian gas field after strikes in Qatar | BBC News
US President Donald Trump threatened to “massively blow up” a major Iranian gas field, after Iran attacked Qatar's Ras Laffan in retaliation to an Israeli attack on its South Pars gas field.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the US "knew nothing" of Israel's strike, and threatened an escalation if Iran attacks Qatar again.
If Iran does strike Qatar again, Trump said the US will "will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before".
Iran's South Pars is part of the world's largest natural gas field, with both Qatar and Iran operating facilities in the area - Israel is yet to comment.
