  • John Swinney would 'consider' US military plane ban | BBC News
Scotland First Minister John Swinney has said he would consider banning US military aircraft from using state-owned Prestwick Airport if it was confirmed they were involved in strikes in the Middle East.
Swinney has previously said he was "concerned" by the US and Israeli action against Iran and did not believe it conformed with an "international rules-based system".
Talking to the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg as part of the show's party leader interviews, he said he was seeking clarity from the UK government about the role of US planes using the airport.

  • Donald Trump and Tony Blair weigh in on UK's Iran response | BBC Newscast
Today, we look at the extent to which the lessons learned from the Iraq war has shaped the UK's response to the war in Iran.
Keir Starmer has taken a position somewhere between full support of Donald Trump’s actions, and direct criticism of them.
In a post on Truth Social, the US president criticised the UK for being less than 100% supportive, saying ‘we will remember’ and "We don't need people that join Wars after we've already won!"
On Friday, former Labour Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair told a private event that the UK should have backed the strikes from the beginning.
But is Keir Starmer’s decision making being guided by some of the failures of the 2003 Iraq war, which Blair led the UK into?

  • Iran says it will never surrender as Trump warns it faces complete destruction | BBC News
Iran’s President has said the country will never surrender, in the face of the onslaught by the US and Israel. Speaking on state television, President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country’s enemies “will take their dream of the Iranian people’s surrender to their graves”. It follows President Trump’s recent statement that only Iran’s total capitulation would bring the war to an end.
The Iranian president also apologised to neighbouring Gulf states for Iran’s recent "actions” after retaliatory strikes on US allies in the region. Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have all come under attack from Iranian missiles and drones.
President Trump responded by stating on his Truth Social media platform that if Iran did not surrender it would be “hit very hard” and faced “complete destruction”. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said his country would continue to strike Iran “with all our might”.
