  • Marco Rubio says talks with Iran will be 'complicated' | BBC News
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said talks with Iran will be "complicated", days before a second round of negotiations over its nuclear programme.
Rubio said he believes US President Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are already on their way to the talks.
In an interview with the BBC in Tehran, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iran's deputy foreign minister, said the ball was "in America's court to prove that they want to do a deal", adding: "If they are sincere, I'm sure we will be on the road to an agreement."
Trump has threatened strikes against Iran if a deal to curb its nuclear programme cannot be reached, with the US building up its military presence in the region.

  • Treasures found on HS2 route stored in secret warehouse | BBC News
Treasures unearthed by hundreds of archaeologists during the ongoing construction of the controversial HS2 train line in the UK have been shown exclusively to the BBC.
The 450,000 objects, which are being held in a secret warehouse, include a possible Roman gladiator's tag, a hand axe that may be more than 40,000 years old and 19th Century gold dentures.
It is an "unprecedented" amount and array of items, which will yield new insights into Britain's past, says the Centre for British Archaeology.
Major building developments in the UK need land to be assessed by archaeologists as part of the planning process, to protect heritage sites.

  • Iran ready to discuss compromises to reach nuclear deal with US, minister says | BBC News
Iran is ready to consider compromises to reach a nuclear deal with the US if the Americans are willing to discuss lifting sanctions, an Iranian minister has told the BBC.
On Saturday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said President Donald Trump preferred a deal but it was "very hard to do" one with Iran.
But in an interview with the BBC in Tehran, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iran's deputy foreign minister, said the ball was "in America's court to prove that they want to do a deal", adding: "If they are sincere, I'm sure we will be on the road to an agreement."

  • Russia killed Alexei Navalny using dart frog toxin, UK says | BBC News
Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was killed using a poison developed from a dart frog toxin, the UK and European allies have said.
Two years on from the death of Navalny at a Siberian penal colony, Britain and its allies have blamed the Kremlin following analysis of material samples found on his body.
There is no innocent explanation for the toxin, called epibatidine, being found in samples taken from Navalny's body, the UK Foreign Office said.
UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper announced the findings at the Munich Security Conference, and a joint statement was issued by the UK, Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
The Kremlin has not commented on the allegations.

  • Will Bangladesh's new leadership will be able to deliver on promises? | BBC News
Bangladesh's National Party (BNP) has won a landslide majority in the country's parliamentary election, setting its leader Tarique Rahman on track to become the next prime minister.
It was the first poll since the student-led protests ousted the autocratic leader Sheikh Hasina, ending her 15-year rule.
With Hasina's Awami League banned from taking part, the election pitted the centre-right BNP against a coalition led by the Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami, which joined forces with a party born out of the Gen Z uprising.
Voters also endorsed sweeping constitutional reform in a referendum held alongside the general election.
Tarique Rahman faces huge challenges - as Bangladeshis demand change, we asked our correspondent in Dhaka, Azadeh Moshiri, whether Bangladesh's new leadership will be able to deliver on its promises of unity, economic stability and democracy?
