  • Russia killed Alexei Navalny using dart frog toxin, UK says | BBC News
Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was killed using a poison developed from a dart frog toxin, the UK and European allies have said.
Two years on from the death of Navalny at a Siberian penal colony, Britain and its allies have blamed the Kremlin following analysis of material samples found on his body.
There is no innocent explanation for the toxin, called epibatidine, being found in samples taken from Navalny's body, the UK Foreign Office said.
UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper announced the findings at the Munich Security Conference, and a joint statement was issued by the UK, Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
The Kremlin has not commented on the allegations.

  • Gisèle Pelicot: The Newsnight Interview
Gisele Pelicot was the woman at the centre of the biggest rape trial in French history. For a decade her husband drugged and raped her, and brought at least 70 men into their home in order to rape her too.
She made the remarkable decision to let the world know who she was - waiving her legal right to anonymity, before the trial of her rapists began. Her powerful plea - that shame must change sides - resonated around the world.

  • Will Bangladesh's new leadership will be able to deliver on promises? | BBC News
Bangladesh's National Party (BNP) has won a landslide majority in the country's parliamentary election, setting its leader Tarique Rahman on track to become the next prime minister.
It was the first poll since the student-led protests ousted the autocratic leader Sheikh Hasina, ending her 15-year rule.
With Hasina's Awami League banned from taking part, the election pitted the centre-right BNP against a coalition led by the Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami, which joined forces with a party born out of the Gen Z uprising.
Voters also endorsed sweeping constitutional reform in a referendum held alongside the general election.
Tarique Rahman faces huge challenges - as Bangladeshis demand change, we asked our correspondent in Dhaka, Azadeh Moshiri, whether Bangladesh's new leadership will be able to deliver on its promises of unity, economic stability and democracy?

  • Palestine Action wins High Court challenge against government ban | BBC News
The High Court has ruled that the ban of Palestine Action under terrorism legislation is unlawful - but it remains in place for now.
Three senior judges said that while Palestine Action use criminality to promote its aims, its activities had not crossed the very high bar to make it a terrorist organisation.
The judges however rule the ban must remain until another hearing on 20 February on what happens next.
The Met Police said it will continue to identify offences where support for Palestine Action is being shown, but will focus on gathering evidence rather than making arrests.
The UK government said it will appeal the decision, with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood saying she's "disappointed”.
Palestine Action's co-founder Huda Ammori called the ruling a "monumental victory for both our fundamental freedoms in Britain and in the struggle for freedom for the Palestinian people”.

  • Warning over prescription drugs causing impulsive behaviour | BBC News
The Chair of the UK's Health Committee has called on drug regulators to review warnings about medications which can cause impulsive behaviour as a side effect.
These include the development of new sexual urges - such as addictions to pornography and sex workers - but also compulsive shopping and gambling that have cost people tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds.
In response to BBC News’s investigation, the chair of the MPs' Health Select Committee described the findings as "devastating" and wrote to the UK drugs regulator asking it to review official warnings.
