  • Lesotho factory that made Trump golf shirts hit hard by US tariffs | BBC News
A garment factory in Lesotho, which has produced Trump-branded golf shirts, may have to soon shut down following the massive import taxes, or tariffs, imposed by the US government earlier this year.
The small, southern African kingdom was hit with "reciprocal" tariffs of 50% - a higher rate than any other country - when they were announced by US President Donald Trump in April.
Although they have since been put on hold, Trump says they will be reimposed this Friday, 1 August, along with other countries around the world, unless a separate deal is reached.
Uncertainty over the future of the country's clothes industry is one reason why Lesotho declared a national "state of disaster" earlier this month in order to speed up job-creation.
The BBC’s Shingai Nyoka reports from Maseru.

  • India says it killed militants who shot dead tourists in Kashmir | BBC News
India has said its security forces killed three militants who shot dead 26 civilians near a tourist town in Indian-administered Kashmir in April, triggering a brief military conflict with Pakistan.
Home Minister Amit Shah told parliament the men had been killed by Indian forces near the disputed region's main city Srinagar on Monday.
He claimed the attackers were Pakistani nationals, a charge Islamabad denies. The men's identity was confirmed through forensic and ballistic tests, Shah told MPs.
Pakistan has not commented on the claims, which have not been independently confirmed and come amid mounting criticism of India's government for alleged security lapses in Kashmir.

  • Famine 'currently playing out' in Gaza, UN-backed experts warn
The worst-case scenario of famine is "currently playing out" in the Gaza Strip, UN-backed global food security experts have warned.
A new assessment by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) said there is mounting evidence that widespread starvation, malnutrition and disease are driving a rise in hunger-related deaths among the 2.1 million population.
The IPC said immediate action must be taken to end the hostilities and allow for an unimpeded, large-scale, life-saving humanitarian response.
Israel has insisted there are no restrictions on aid deliveries and that there is "no starvation".

  • Gaza food emergency - on board the aircraft dropping aid to feed the starving | BBC News
A small quantity of food aid is being dropped by parachute into Gaza by military aircraft, in an attempt to help prevent mass starvation in the territory. A limited number of aid trucks are also being allowed into Gaza by the Israeli authorities.
It comes as the United Nations and many charities warn of an emergency situation in Gaza. The Hamas-run health ministry said there had been more deaths from malnutrition in the past 24 hours.
Israel, which controls the entry of all supplies to Gaza, has declared a temporary cessation of fighting in three areas in order to allow some aid to be delivered. Israel denies there is starvation in Gaza and has rejected accusations that it is responsible for food shortages.
The BBC’s international editor Jeremy Bowen has been on board a Jordanian military air force plane dropping aid into Gaza. Clive Myrie presents his BBC News at Ten report.

  • How have six months of US President Donald Trump shaken up the global economy? | BBC News
Tariffs, trade, tax, spending, energy and immigration are just some of the areas that have seen change thanks to a blitz of new policies from US President Donald Trump, but is there a coherent plan behind this lightning change?
Adam Posen from the Peterson Institute for International Economics explains why the US economy could be heading for more inflation and perhaps even towards recession.
And when it comes to tariffs, why have steel, aluminium and copper been singled out and will it really make any difference to domestic production?
Talking Business also hears from billionaire mining entrepreneur Robert Friedland, of Ivanhoe Mines and Ivanhoe Electric, about why these tariffs are key to America’s economic future.

  • Donald Trump sets new deadline of '10 or 12 days' for Russia to agree to Ukraine deal | BBC News
Donald Trump has presented a new, shorter deadline for Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire over the war in Ukraine of "10 or 12 days" from Monday.
The US president said there was "no reason" in waiting any longer as no progress towards peace had been made.
Trump made the comments during a meeting at his Turnberry golf course in Scotland with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
At a press conference, he said he would confirm the new deadline on Monday or Tuesday, but reiterated the threat to impose sanctions and secondary tariffs on Moscow.
Also at the conference, Keir Starmer and Donald Trump agreed that aid needs to get into Gaza and they need a ceasefire.
Trump described the scenes of children in Gaza as “real starvation”, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted there was no such thing.

  • Thailand and Cambodia agree to 'immediate ceasefire' | BBC News
Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire" after five days of fighting at their border killed at least 33 people and displaced tens of thousands.
"This is a vital first step to a de-escalation and a restoration of peace and security," said Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, flanked by his Thai and Cambodian counterparts, as he announced that hostilities would end at midnight.
Thailand initially rebuffed his offer to mediate but agreed after US President Donald Trump said tariff negotiations would not proceed until "fighting STOPS".
Tensions over the century-old border dispute had ramped up in May after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a clash.
