  • Netanyahu rejects Trump’s Gaza peace plan | BBC News
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected US President Donald Trump's 15-point plan for Gaza, stating that no military pull-out will happen until Hamas is "genuinely" disarmed.
Trump's Board of Peace said last month it had reached an agreement for the "complete disarmament" of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza.
But Hamas said handing over its heavy weapons was contingent on Israel ending "all forms of aggression" and withdrawing its forces from Gaza.
Israel has continued to carry out strikes on Gaza since agreeing to an initial ceasefire in the territory last October.
"Israel rejects the 15-point document," Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting.
The Israeli military "will not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed and will continue to thwart threats against our forces and our citizens", he added.
A Hamas official told the BBC on Sunday the group "reaffirms it commitment" to the agreement and it was ready "to engage seriously and responsibly in implementing" the 15-point plan.
They called on mediators to ensure "that all parties comply with what has been agreed".
Israel's rejection signals another blow for Trump's Gaza peace plan which was announced in September last year.
Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Jon Donnison, Lucy Williamson and Bernd Debusmann.

  • Israel rejects Trump's 15-point plan for Gaza, Netanyahu says | BBC News
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected US President Donald Trump's 15-point plan for Gaza, saying there will be no military withdrawal until Hamas is "genuinely" disarmed.
Trump's Board of Peace said last month that it had reached an agreement for the "complete disarmament" of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza.
However, Hamas said it would surrender its heavy weapons only if Israel ended "all forms of aggression" and withdrew its forces from the territory.
"Israel rejects the 15-point document," Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
The decision is another setback for Trump's peace initiative for Gaza, which was announced in September last year.

  • Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan make pact as tensions grow in Strait of Hormuz | BBC News
Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have signed a joint defence agreement, saying an attack on one of them would be seen as an attack on all three.

The Mecca agreement has drawn a sharp reaction from Tehran, where a senior member of parliament said it would not help Saudi Arabia.

  • How Russia seizes homes in occupied Ukraine | Global News Podcast
Russia is systematically seizing tens of thousands of homes across four illegally annexed regions of Ukraine - Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Documents analysed by the BBC show that 34,000 properties have been taken - or been earmarked for confiscation - so they can be given to Russian passport holders.
Olga Robinson of BBC Verify tells us how the Kremlin has used the strategy of "Russification" in occupied Ukraine.
The practice of seizing homes was formalised in a law signed by Vladimir Putin last year. Moscow says it is part of a “legal framework for integrating the reunited regions” into the Russian system. But critics have described it as "demographic engineering" - an attempt to transform the social and political fabric of occupied territory, and make it harder, and less desirable, to ever reintegrate these lands with Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Ukraine will not accept any peace deal that cedes territory to Russia.
