Don't you find that the more you practice listening to The Holy Name and being fully present, the more the mind has a glimmer of attachment for the chanting of the Holy Name? If so, that's great advancement. Even the slightest inclination of the mind that 'I'd like to do this' shows that you're moving forward in Krishna consciousness.

And even if you're not, if you have that sense of determination, that śraddhā in the śāstra, in the words of Guru-Paramparā, that you should do this, and you do it based on this sense of 'I must do it'—in the vaidhī mode—still, there's a taste in that. Because you feel, 'Yes, I'm doing the right thing.' Most of the time in the material world, everyone's doing the wrong thing, and there's cognitive dissonance: 'I'm doing the wrong thing, I'm doing the wrong thing. I wish I could do the right thing.' So even when you're doing it out of duty and you're doing the right thing, there's a sense of victory.
