This week the Beat of the Month crew give the definitive list of the best Real Time Strategy games of all time! OK...maybe not quite that definitive since our expertise in this genre is a bit lacking. But, we at least name drop Civilization and Starcraft to try and save face. We do reach into the depths of our knowledge to come up with some of our favorites. Are they all truly RTS games? Well, don't judge us too harshly. But if you're an RTS fan then give our trivia at the end of the episode a shot and see how you rank against the Beat of the Month crew - we hope you enjoy!
Back in September, IGN hosted a bracket to determine the best game ever made. Some complete omissions, early eliminations, and the final result all had some controversy. So, the Beat of the Month crew decided to look at the entire bracket - match up by match up - and share our thoughts. Batman: Arkham City vs. Super Mario 64? Rise of the Tomb Raider vs. Half-Life 2? Burnout 3: Takedown vs. Chrono Trigger - easy decisions, right? Maybe not...
We also discuss how the IGN list was chosen and what considerations should be made when deciding a 'best' games list. We close out with discussion on what games were omitted that we feel should have been included. It was a lot of fun to cover a huge list of great game matchups, so please join us!
Halloween is just around the corner and The Beat of the Month crew are still celebrating October with an episode all about the scariest moments in gaming! We cover the classics like dogs crashing through windows in Resident Evil and monsters jumping out at you while wandering around Silent Hill. We talk about some older games like when we pissed our pants as kids playing Splatterhouse. We also take some liberties with the topic and talk about games that are just plain scary. We also have some...interesting...trivia to round things out. So once again - turn the lights down low and join us for a scary trip down memory lane with some of our favorite scary game moments!
The Beat of the Month crew continue to celebrate October by taking a spin through a recent horror game phenomenon - Dead By Daylight. Maybe not so much a deep dive as a shallow wading, but we took a few 'stabs' at this online multiplayer horror game to see why it has garnered so much attention. Do we fully understand all the ins and outs this game had to offer? Hmmm....not really. But we played enough to share our initial impressions. We also include some 'live' audio clips of us in the middle of a few matches. Whether you are a seasoned killer or just trying to survive to see the light of day, there's something here for everyone to enjoy - including as always some 'Dead' trivia. So find a dark corner, put your headphones on, and join us!
The Beat of the Month crew continue their journey through space as they try to eradicate the Space Pirate menace. Heralded as one of the best games of all time, join us as we share our thoughts on Super Metroid. Is it a perfect game...well we're not all sure about that. But it's certainly worth your attention. So join us as we anticipate the release of Metroid Dread and take a trip with Samus on one of her most famous adventures!
With Metroid Dread approaching, the Beat of the Month crew decide to take a look at where the series all began. We dust off our NES controllers (OK not really...we played on Switch) and take a journey through Samus' first expedition to foil the space pirates' plans. We talk about the good, the bad, and the Ridley as well as how revolutionary this early NES game was and the impact it still has. We also cap things off with some Metroid series trivia that really tests the crew's (Mother) Brain.
Next week we go further in our journey with a deep dive on Super Metroid - so please join us now and in one week as we prepare for the imminent arrival of Metroid Dread!
It's a big, open world out there with lots of games to be played. But sometimes, a decision has to be made. The Beat of the Month crew run down their Favorite Top 3 Open World Games of all time (with a few cheaters adding in honorable mentions). Where do your favorite Open World Games fit within our list? We also round out the episode with some Open World trivia. Think you can guess the names of these games with only 3 words. Yeah you probably can, we could - but you won't know for SURE until you give it a listen!
The Beat of the Month crew have entered the next phase of the fighting game tournament - choosing our top 3 favorite fighting games! Sure you can expect some Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter games to show up on our lists, but some other games may surprise you more than a fart from a little orange dinosaur (if you know, you know). As always we wrap things up with a little fighting game trivia where the crew gets a Test of (mental) Strength. Be forewarned - at the end we go off the rails a bit which might be a bit more 'M for Mature' than even we usually go. Listener Discretion is advised!
This week we've got a hodge podge of content from the Beat of the Month crew! We start by discussing what video game world we would want to live in for 30 days and bring back all the spoils (but hopefully not get killed). Then we change it up to an old favorite - Murder, $*%@, Kill. We pick 3 game characters and decide which we want to wed, which we want dead, and which we want to...well you get the idea. We wrap things up with a quick single game of 20 questions. So come join us on this random episode!
