Welcome to Becoming Natural, the Go-to Podcast for Moms Who Want to Clean Up their Lifestyle & Get Control of their Health!
Today, we're tackling a fascinating topic: Why do essential oils work? Man made drugs have been around for roughly 85 years while essential oils have been used for thousands of years. Why have we become skeptical in their benefits? From the healing powers of lemon oil over fluid in my lungs to using Thieves to combat bleeding gums, these little bottles pack a punch. But what's actually happening when we inhale their scents or apply them to our skin? Is it chemistry, psychology, or both? In this episode, we’re breaking down the science behind essential oils, exploring how they interact with our bodies and minds, and how this skeptic became a believer.

Is Candida yeast secretly hijacking your health? 😬 This episode might change everything you thought you knew about your gut. After three babies, relentless symptoms, and years of mystery diagnoses, I discovered what was fueling the fire: Candida overgrowth.
In this deeply personal episode, I’m taking you back to the start of my gut-healing journey, sharing my raw experience with the Candida Die-Off Diet, and what happened when I finally stopped treating symptoms and started addressing root causes—with faith and food. 🙌
💡 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:– How antibiotics, autoimmune flares, and sugar cravings are connected
– My experience with over 20 candida symptoms (some you’d never guess!)
– Why my “exorcism” of yeast was both brutal and miraculous 😅
– How Candida die-off symptoms can mimic chronic illness
– What a 30-day gut reset really looks like (and why Day 21 is wild)
– Faith-filled healing, brain fog breakthroughs, and God’s hand in every step 💖
📚 Mentioned in This Episode:– Good Energy by Dr. Casey Means – a game-changing look at whole-body healing
– WebMD: Tetracycline and Crohn’s Disease
– Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9–10 – “For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
🙏 Final TakeawayYou don’t have to live in survival mode. Sometimes your healing begins with subtraction—taking out what’s hurting your body so God can restore what’s been broken. Candida was wrecking me…and I had no clue. But you don’t have to stay there. 💪

What if the tears, anxiety, and overwhelm you’re experiencing aren’t “just in your head,” but actually rooted in unresolved trauma your brain hasn’t processed?
In this episode, I share the deeply personal journey of discovering I was battling PTSD after years of medical trauma. When “powering through” no longer worked, I tried something I didn’t even know existed: EMDR therapy. From crying at stoplights to finding peace in hospital hallways, I walk you through how Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing changed my life—and could help change yours.
Whether you’ve faced chronic illness, emotional pain, or just feel stuck in fight-or-flight mode, this episode offers real talk, hope, and healing. 💖
💭 Something to Think About:"Healing doesn’t just happen in your body—it happens when your brain is finally allowed to process what your heart has endured."

Welcome to Episode 001 of Becoming Natural. They say to start messy, so there is nowhere to go but up. In this first episode, I’m introducing myself, sharing my story, and explaining why I went from “No way” to “OK” when it came to starting this podcast. I’m Penny Sampler — a regular mom with big faith, three incredible boys, two very entertaining dogs, a wonderful husband, and a long history of surprising my doctors. Before Becoming Natural began, I spent more than 25 years walking through chronic illness, Crohn’s disease, surgeries, medications, unanswered questions, and a recovery journey that changed the way I saw the body. I’m also an occupational therapist and former pharmaceutical representative, so I’ve lived inside the medical world from more than one angle. This episode is about the wellness mindset that grew from that story. It is not about being anti-medicine, chasing perfection, or throwing everything in your house away overnight. It is about asking better questions, learning how the body was designed to heal, making small sustainable changes, and becoming a better friend to your body one step at a time. 📖 Read the full episode + resources: https://becomingnatural.com/becoming-natural-intro/ In this episode, you’ll hear about: - why I started Becoming Natural - my long journey with Crohn’s disease and chronic illness - how occupational therapy shaped the way I see healing - why my pharmaceutical background gave me a unique perspective - why I began asking deeper questions about food, medications, toxins, stress, plants, and faith - why small steps matter more than panic or perfection - what you can expect from future Becoming Natural episodes If you are tired, overwhelmed, curious, or simply ready to understand your body in a deeper way, I’m so glad you are here. Bring your questions, your sense of humor, and maybe a little bit or a whole lot of Jesus. Let’s get this journey started.
