Beer‘d Al Podcast

Welcome to our first episode of 2023! We’re talking about “Angry White Boy Polka” from Poodle Hat. Poodle Hat came out in 2003, so we might as well go back in time 20 years and kick things off with a polka. We spend a good amount of time talking about the polka (for real!), and then we chat about some holiday stuff and other amusing anecdotes. It’s a good time!

Lauren has Sam Adams Holiday White Ale. John has Southern Tier Brewing Company New Haze. Cheers!

Happy New Year!

If you haven't been hiding under a rock, then you probably know that KZ1043 in Wisconsin has been treating us to WEIRD AL RADIO for the past few days. I was lucky enough to sit down with Eddie, the music director of this DREAM. You've got until tomorrow to listen to the radio station that we all need in our lives: All Weird Al, all the time!

Eddie give us some insight as to how this project came to be, what the fan reaction has been like, and he even has some words from The Weird One himself!

It's the last album we have to rank! And it's the last episode of 2022! We did it!

I've got MJ from the Let's Jaws for a Minute and Reel Perspective podcasts to break down this "Weird Al" gem from 2011. This episode has some great conversation, good laughs, and a whole lot of breaking down just exactly what Al was trying to do with some of these songs. Do we agree? Do we disagree? What's YOUR favorite track on Alpocalypse?

It's that time of year again! Lauren and John decided to sit down and get in the holiday spirit. Literally! We're both drinking Mad Elf from Troegs Brewing--just like we used to do on Christmas at home with the family. We're giving you a taste of what it's like to sit down at a holiday table with us. So maybe put this episode on in the background of your own holiday celebration. We make good ambiance!

We talk a little bit about "The Night Santa Went Crazy," but we're mostly talking about Christmas. We hope you enjoy it!

So not only is there discrepancies between their list and Lauren's... there's some fun in-fighting, as well! Who's right? Who's wrong? Who's to say? Listen in and enjoy this fun conversation!

It’s “Couch Potato” time! We’re talking about this Eminem parody from Poodle Hat today. Why? Because we felt like it. We talk about Dunkin’ Donuts again. Why? Because we felt like it. We also talk about the logic behind “Weird Al” album lead singles, revisionist Poodle Hat history, whether or not the jokes still fly, songs for dogs, what been watching, a game show idea, going backwards, a Beer’d Al Podcast news update, and we devolve into potatoes.

Lauren has Bam Biere from Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales AND Two Hearted by Bells. John has Super Duper Double Citra AND Super Duper Triple Citra from Thomas Hooker Brewing Co. Cheers!

Holy cow! It's an Ultra Special Bonus Episode! The preeminent "Weird Al" scholar of our times, Nathan Rabin, is back to talk about THE "Weird Al" movie. No, not that one. It's The Soccer Football Movie! This fever dream of a film premiered on Netflix recently, and we have A LOT to say about it.

Note: There are one or two bits of language in here that may not be great for kiddos. They go by quick, but I just wanted to warn you!

Give an amazing gift to the "Weird Al" fan in your life by buying one (OR ALL!) of Nathan's book on the topic:

It's a big fat Thanksgiving special! We're talking about Al's parody of Michael Jackson's "Bad." It's "Fat" and you know it! Lauren and John are joined by the glowingly delightful Russ from the Infectious Groove Podcast to dig into this monster track. We discuss the impact Michael Jackson had on Al's career, we cover a few mind blowing hypothetical scenarios, and so much more! We also get a little real at the end talking about what we're thankful for this year. You definitely don't want to miss it!

Lauren & Russ have Maximus Colossal IPA from Lagunitas. John has Heckin' Chonker from Fair State Brewing Collective AND Frosty Pops from Pressure Drop Brewing. Cheers!
