Brian Atkinson began his stand-up career later in life, but his radio and public speaking experience gave him the ability to move up the ranks quickly. His clean style makes Brian equally comfortable in clubs, business events, & churches. We talked about his overcoming the fact that he has a natural announcer’s voice which can take the audience out of the joke. We also talked about his first time on stage with fellow pastors at his church in attendance. Brian cohosts Clean Comedy Time with former guest, Aaron Sorrels which is a well-produced live show and also a popular podcast. Brian also talked about his comedy contest experience from earlier this year where Covid-19 ran rampant over the vaccinated and unvaccinated participants. This is an important episode that illustrates that we are not safe from Coronavirus yet

Jeff Oskay started performing stand-up comedy when he was 30. He wanted to write for other comics but was told he had to perform first. After a lot of practice and overcoming his stage-fright, Jeff became a fan favorite. He sold some jokes and sold his humor to the famous Bob & Tom show where he now works and does “Failed to Mention News” which is one of my absolute favorite bits to grace the Bob &Tom show. I should know, I’ve been listening to Bob & Tom since the mid-80s.

I highly recommend subscribing to Jeff’s YouTube channel so you don’t miss an episode of “Failed to Mention News”:

Sean White is one of the best comedians I’ve heard make tragedy funny. His take on losing his family members one by one on his “Dead and Gone” album is heartbreaking and hilarious. His confessions of anger issues on “Angry & Alone” is pure genius. Sean and I talked about his first missteps in comedy and how making a show out of his loss helped him to heal. Please check out his albums either before or after you listen to this episode. You will find the delivery to be pure genius.

Brian Hicks is from Chicago but calls the stage he’s on tonight home. Brian’s easy going style and hilarious stories about being a husband and father have made him popular with any audience who is lucky enough to have purchased a ticket to see him perform. It’s easy to see that he loves what he does. He’s also known as a friend and mentor to new comedians and everybody who has worked with him will say “Yes, he was nice to me”.

We talked about being a mentor, leaving the family while traveling, and never feeling that your joke is finished.

Make sure to check out Brian’s completely up to date (I mean it) website to get a link to his hilarious Drybar Special and see when he will be performing in your town:

Since, I am hamstringed by my current bandwidth and having no space for interviews, I'm bringing back one of my favorites.

I got to see Dwight Simmons at Epic Comedy Hour for their 10th Anniversary show here in Huntsville. I was pleased to see that many of the things he talked about doing with his act in our interview were indeed in his act on Friday night.

Based on what I saw, I think Dwight Simmons will have a great 2022. Make sure to see him when he comes to your hometown club:

Todd Glass has been performing comedy since he was a teenager in Philly. He’s gotten really good at it. With a mix of silliness, observations about our culture, and a message of “Hey, let’s not take ourselves so seriously.” Todd is a draw wherever he goes. When he’s not making you laugh on stage, he’s bringing together his friends to entertain you with his podcast, The Todd Glass Show. Todd and I talked about his Netflix Special, “Act Happy”, how to make the most out of a venue that’s not conducive to stand-up comedy, and a new project that will be revealed if you listen to the podcast!

Bob Fredricks started stand-up 10 years ago and released his debut album “Burger Prince” last year. He’s run and promoted shows for most of his career and has a lot of insight as to how to not only get better at comedy but be someone who is attractive to being a booker. Bob has been using his promoting skills on Twitch for the past year and has built quite a following. We talked a lot about the album and why he did it as well as using other mediums (Like Twitch) to help with monetizing your humor and building your fan base.
