  • Episode 72: Phil Johnson

Phil Johnson has an action packed show filled with his two loves, comedy and music. It’s a show filled with sharp unexpected turns, sneak attack jokes, and hilarious songs that doesn’t shy away from controversial territory… race, sex, religion, and doughnuts – so many doughnuts – all delivered from the viewpoint of a guy who happily grew up in the deeply multi-everything community of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Phil has been seen and heard at the Sundance Film Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, on Sirius/XM and Bob and Tom radio, and on Amazon Prime. He’s also released multiple comedy specials and albums filled with his colorful, tightly-written comedy.

RA Curtain CallRoadside Attraction comes from leader Phil Johnson’s twin careers in music and comedy. “The idea here is songs that are musically interesting and challenging, but also funny, and understandable by a casual music listener,” says Johnson. It’s more eclectic than Stephen Lynch, funnier than Prince, and more palatable than Frank Zappa, though influences of all three abound.

  • Episode 71: Steve Sabo

    EDGY. ANGRY. HONEST. HILARIOUS!

Slowing down is not in Steve Sabo's vocabulary. Tirelessly working the road an astonishing 52 weeks a year, this comedy road warrior brings laughter and joy all over the nation, and beyond. No stage is too big or too small; he has performed for crowds as large as 5,000 and as small as two. First hitting the comedy stage straight out of high school at 18, he has honed his craft at comedy clubs, dirty bars, shiny casinos, military bases, cruise ships, colleges, corporate shows, fundraisers, restaurants and even a back yard or two. His comedy has universal appeal, and his experience shows it.

In his 29 years as a performer, he has had the privilege of sharing the stage with comedy legends such as Joan Rivers, Chris Rock, Kevin James, Dave Attel, Jim Breuer, Christopher Titus and Tom Green. He has made television appearances on HBO, NBC, E! and Comedy Central. He is heard regularly on SiriusXM Satellite Radio and has appeared on the nationally syndicated "Sex Talk Live" , "BTS Radio Show" and "The Jiggy Jaguar Show".

In addition, he landed the lead in a low-budget horror film ("Hell's Lake", currently in post-production), entertained the troops in Iraq and Kuwait, performed at 2007's "Gathering of the Juggalos", and has been seen nationally and internationally at such festivals as Gilda's "Laughfest"(three times), Calgary's "Funnyfest", "The Detroit International Comedy Festival" (twice) and "The Great Plains Comedy Festival" (twice). In all, he has performed in 46 states, 7 countries and 4 islands. He also filmed a cameo in another full length feature film, "PI Day, Die Day" , which was released theatrically on March 14, 2016. In May of 2017, he was honored to perform on "Rock on the Range", the nation's largest rock music festival, headlined by Metallica.

An admitted workaholic, Sabo has released six full length comedy albums, including 2009's "A Mouthful of Sea-Monkeys" which was heralded as "One of the top ten comedy albums of 2009" according to the Serious Comedy Site. His plans to record his newest CD, "Put Away Wet" have been delayed due to Covid-19 lockdowns. However, instead of sitting on his laurels he took the opportunity to write and release his first novel, a thriller titled "Jester's Run" in late 2020 and his latest book, "How to FAIL at Stand-Up Comedy" in April of 2021. All of his releases are available on Amazon and I-Tunes.

Known among his peers as a consummate professional and a comedy chameleon, he has the ability to adjust his act to his environment. Whether the situation calls for a clean show, a dirty show or something in between, he has the experience and material to satisfy any crowd. Considered adult-friendly and intelligent, his honest and observational style, topped with a high energy and frenetic pace, has made him a fan favorite from coast to coast.

  • Episode 70: Alive Show App with Ruben Cagnie & Forrest Haigh

Forrest Haigh & Ruben Cagnie wanted to make an app that allowed comedians to perform anywhere without restrictions. They came up with a Live Show App. This app has open mics every day and now has scheduled shows. 2 great things about a Live Show App: 1. It costs nothing! You don’t have to buy anything to participate and you don’t get deluged with ads. 2. You don’t need to have a great internet connection to participate. This is only on your phone and 4G/5G will work fine. Comedians need to work out new material and this is the most convenient and time-saving way to do it. I believe this app is a game changer to help comedians find their A & B material Before they hit the stage. Forest and Ruben are passionate about the app and we talked about it’s origins and where they want to take it.

Mark Riccadonna grew up an artsy jock outside of Youngstown, Ohio. At age 17 (like a bad independent movie), Mark moved to NYC in search of himself and happiness. He pursued Theatre at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, joining “The Company” after graduation. Soon after, Mark stumbled upon Stand-Up Comedy and found success as a storyteller, performing throughout New York City, and ‘on the road’. Outside of comedy, Mark is an accomplished actor and writer. Most recently Mark has a lead role in the feature film “Days of Power” and is a contributing writer for Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update”, Columnist and Travel writer for “Todays Man” Magazine, Wrote and Directed “Radio Gods” television Pilot, starred in “Game Night” (Winner of the International Film Festival NYC) been seen on AXS TV’s “Live at Gotham”, FOX’s “Laughs”, heard on Sirius XM and Bob and Tom, and also has a hit Podcast “Drinks Jokes and Storytelling”.

Whether he is working with The Amoralists Theatre Company (In the acclaimed hit “Happy in the Poor House”), Angry Shih Tzu Productions or on tour with Stand-Up, Mark continues to climb the ranks. He is a gifted storyteller, with a charisma that makes you feel like you’ve known him forever, unique delivery, signature voice (that has landed him several commercials) and likability; you will see why he is a favorite at clubs and theatres everywhere. Look for his second album “Domestic Nomad” released by Realize Records.

  • Episode 67: Art Bell

Art Bell got his dream job working for HBO after working with the government and CBS. That dream job was predicting subscriber numbers and wasn’t all that glamorous. Then he came up with the idea of a 24 hour comedy channel and that idea was promptly shut down. He pitched it again and Michael Fuchs, the head of HBO liked it. The channel became Comedy Central and Art’s new book “Constant Comedy – How I Started Comedy Central and Lost My Sense of Humor” tells the story of the tumultuous early days of the channel.
