We have an extra special guest today! For those of you who don't know, "Gaspar's Best" is named after Gaspar Bellitti, who started HB Pharmacy in 1964. Gaspar's legacy and values are still prevalent in the pharmacy today. We created Gaspar's Best to continue his legacy, but also to add an element of proactive health to the pharmacy.

Gaspar passed in 2009. However, Gaspar's wife (and Vince's Grandma), Jackie, is alive and kicking it at 93 years young.

We thought it would be fun to share the health and wellness perspective of someone who's literally been on earth almost 94 years and still going strong!

There often is a lack of transparency in healthcare, so we wanted to take the time to shed some light on controlled medication specifically for stress and anxiety.

Why are these meds controlled? What is the pharmacist doing on the computer when you bring in a script? How is the DEA involved in this process?

CBD is everywhere these days! But it it really safe? Some claim it's a miracle product. Others are more skeptical.

The challenge with CBD is that there isn't too much that's clinically proven, so many "claims" we see out there are speculative and often not backed by proper research. We get this question A LOT at the pharmacy. Whether it's brand vs. generic or alprazolam vs. clonazepam, we've heard it all.

All stress and anxiety meds have some safety concerns you should be aware of as a consumer. Many that are used to help people "fall asleep" don't typically promote a "restful sleep". However, there is a place for these meds in terms of immediate stress/anxiety relief. It's important to understand how these meds work, the differences between them, what they "can do" and "can't do", and how they affect your body. These are things we frequently counsel our patients on at the pharmacy.
