Welcome to the Behind the Sweat podcast! This is our very first episode and I am so excited to share this project with you. Sports right now look so very different from what we are used to and this is a good thing. This change kept bringing up the thought, what does it mean to be an athlete?
The question led me to wanting to start this podcast. I am sitting down with all different types of athletes, as they share their stories and answer the question, what does it mean to be an athlete?
In this episode I chatted with Brittany Charboneau. Brittany is known as the Funny Runner. She uses her comedic background in her approach to her career as a professional road and trail runner. Every run has a playful purpose and is an opportunity to spread joy!
Brittany graduated from The Second City's sketch writing program in Chicago and has taught improv comedy at The Bovine Metropolis Theater in Denver. Brittany's most recent running accomplishments include winner of the 2020 Pikes Peak Marathon, 13th place finish at the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials with a time of 2:33:13, winner of the 2019 Marine Corps Marathon, winner of the 2019 Leadville Heavy Half Trail Marathon and most recently setting an FKT (fastest known time) on the Maroon Bells Four Pass Loop 27-mile trail run.
Although she has been running for nearly 20 years, it took Brittany over 15 years to ever win a race. The spark of belief in herself is what has launched her career to new heights over the past several years. She is a running coach, speaker and proud supporter of her "Jusband"'s custom sugar cookie company, SugarTats Cookie Co.
