  • Growth Strategy

Reviewing restrooms is part of a bigger plan, I know there might be someone out there wondering why I'm reviewing restrooms, well there's a method to my madness.  Last week, when I looked at my analytics, I noticed I had more people tuning in from France than I did from CT.  That bothered me, on the one hand I was excited about the reach of the podcast, but, that area of opportunity bothered me.  Why didn't more people know about the podcast in the state I live in?  Whelp that would be my fault, and so I'm going to change that.

Currently only 9% of our audience tunes in from Connecticut.

    Growth Strategy:

    1. Conduct restroom review.
    2. Post and tag establishment on IG.
    3. Follow Up with a live call to share the news
    4. Include the call during an episode
    5. Share link to the episode with the establishment.
    6. Rinse and Repeat
    7. This gorilla marketing tactic will allow us to create a buzz throughout the state, identify potential advertisers for the show, identify social media management/engagement opportunities for restaurants and janitorial services.  Next up will be Barber Shops and Beauty Salons.

Oh yeah I haven't mentioned my Ko-fi page.  The launching of my Ko-fi page is me embracing my talents, this is me walking in my purpose, this is me taking the leap, acknowledging that what I'm doing is providing a valuable service for the audience, the guest and the sponsors.  BTW Podcast is a business.

I took the leap 4years ago to drive for Uber/Lyft Full-time, so I could have the flexibility to devote to building BTW Podcast.  Ko-fi is platform that will allow entrepreneurs/business owners to sponsor an episode PRE, MID or POST roll, it also allows you to buy me a cup of coffee.

    8. Service With A Smile

I walked into Fatty Patty late one night last week to pick up an order, from the looks of it looks like they were closing, my order wasn't ready-no biggie I'll wait.  While I'm waiting, I figured I'd use the restroom, but I was denied access.  When I asked if I could use it the guy behind the counter said: "No, it's not available at the moment, because I just cleaned it." I thought it was a strange response, it won't impact my future bathroom review.

Kym, is the owner of Kelly's Janitorial Services, Kelly is her daughter and a fellow podcaster from Gen Z.  Kelly was eager to record an episode, I appreciated the hustle to make things happen, so I made arrangements to interview her at the last minute.  Her mom walked in the room during the interview, it was hilarious.

    10. Boat House Restaurant 5 Star Restroom Review

If you've been following BTW Podcast for any length of time, you know I have a bit of obsession with restrooms.  The Bridge House Restaurant has one of the best kept restrooms I've been in, in a minute.  Bright fully stocked, with a Bose sound system pipped in to make your time on the throne relaxing.  We called them up to share the exciting news.

Also on today's episode is a rundown on who we was set to be interviewed for the show.  CONBODY founder/ceo Coss, The artist activist PowerMalu, Raza from Creative Talk Shop.

    11. Finding Your Tribe... What Group Did You Eat Lunch With In HS?

We were all searching trying to find our tribe in High School, if you were fortunate enough to play sports you knew what table you were going to sit at, if you were a cheerleader, popular or a nerd there was a table for you.  There were days I didn't even go into the cafeteria and when I did I'd make my rounds, I never wanted to be tied to any particular group-it seemed restrictive.

I asked this question on my FaceBook Page:  "What Group Did You Eat Lunch With In High School?"  The responses were revealing and entertaining.  If your haven't already figured out by now what this episode is about, let me help you out-High School.  In todays episode I give an update on who we're interviewing next week.  The importance and benefits of supporting black podcasting outlets that cover issues and people within the running/endurance community.  The bulk of the episode is centered around this idea of searching for and finding her tribe.  It is chocked filled with hilarious anecdotes.

    12. Knots In A Box

You can't box me into a corner, or try to fit me into a predetermined category.  When I thought about the concept for BTW, what I wanted to do and who I would be serving, I knew I didn't just want to talk about spilts and sprockets.  I have varied interest like many people, I know I'm not unique in that regard.  I like sports and was athletic as a kid, but I'm not the Madden football playstation dude.  I'm not the car dude, who obsesses of his vehicle, I don't see it as a chick magnet-I drive a Mini.  But I do like a Bentley or a Ghost.  I'm an independent opinionated man who is allergic to BS.

I love audio, podcast, books on tapes, audibles, NPR and an occasional TED Talk.  I'm a huge Hip Hop fan who's addicted to sneakers.  I love people, I'm not trying to out black anyone nor am I trying to make myself appealing to white folks.  I don't think all white people are evil.  I know systemic racism exist, I'm not naive.  I ask too many questions, when things don't make sense to me I ask questions for clarity, sometimes I feel like an outsider even within my own group because I'm a little weird.  I never got into the whole bar hopping scene, I tried running around worse mistake of my life.  I love to learn, I get a rush being around people who are actively engaged in chasing their dreams.  I'm funny, I know I'm funny, but I used to find myself downplaying my personality so others could shine.  I know, anything I put my mind to, I can accomplish.

One day I decided I wanted to make a rap song about running and ended up making 104 songs-(here's a sample: Mystery To Me), which will become a book of spoken word poems and the soundtrack for a podcast about a 50 year old rapper trying to break into the music industry.  I am a human potential developer.  I enjoy helping people iMac their lives.

    13. Jesus On the Mainline

Thousands of people have died from the coronavirus and folks are playing politics promulgating wild conspiracy theories.  In the news recently we have politicians who think the virus is made up hoax have contracted and some have paid the ultimate price with their life supporting a leader that doesn't believe in science.

    14. Behind The Scenes At Komfort-Zone

For those of you who have been following me any length time know that my sister, Yvonne, aka. the "Nubian Sudzin Queen" is the reason I started running.  I admire her drive and passion.  Even if the "Nubian Sudzin Queen"  wasn't my sister, I would still shout her out, because of the time, care and dedication she pours in producing a quality product.  I've attend shows with her, and observes how she takes care of customers, associates and the soap making community.

The Nubian Sudzin Queen is constantly fielding questions on a whole host of topics ranging from Soap Making  101 to how to launch a soap making business.  As a former Retail Manger, I enjoyed receiving customer feedback, because some customer concerns uncovered a void that needed to be filled an if we didn' t fill it, our competitor would.

In this episode Yvonne addresses her trepidation, about being on camera, creating training materials for the Soap Making community.  If you enjoyed this episode consider buying The Nubian Soap Queen a cup of  ko-fil

    15. Act As IF You're A Boss, Before You Are A Boss

When I tell the story about running a marathon it starts off sounding like a joke, so there’s a White guy, a Puerto Rican, and a Black guy standing in a Home Depot.  Miguel was a customer we met at the Depot when he had an issue with his Kitchen installment. When I came out to resolve the issue I called him Carlos on several occasions while insisting I understood his situation and reassuring him I was there to help him.

To whichever he replied, no you don’t, because you keep calling me Carlos. So embarrassing.  I used to spend part of my day working out of my local DD in the evenings, editing episodes of the podcast. There was a evening supervisor, who conducted himself as a manager. He was always respectful to customers and his team, leading his team during the shift like a quarter-backer. Doing whatever was necessary to get the job done during the shift.

It was refreshing to see young people in leadership roles conducting themselves professionally. One day we got to talking about my running and he mentions that his father is runner and it’s revealed that his father is Miguel.  Jon was the epitome of what it means to act as if. He treated the DD like he was the owner, not barking out orders, but taking care of his customer, associations and paying attention to details.  Jon is now the owner of his own shop Prodigy Cutz Hair Studio congratulations wishing you all the best in your entrepreneurship journey.

BTW Podcast is a Black owned  business.
