One of the most practical ways the Holy Spirit leads you is through peace. Colossians 3 verse 15 says, "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts." The word "rule" here means to act as an umpire or arbitrator. The peace of God in your heart should be like an umpire that makes the call. When you have peace about a decision, that is a green light. When you lack peace, that is a red light. Learning to be led by peace is one of the most important skills in the Christian life.My dear friend, God is not the author of confusion. He is a God of order and peace. When you are walking in His will, you will have a deep, settled peace in your heart, even if your circumstances are chaotic. That peace is the witness of the Holy Spirit that you are on the right path. Conversely, when you are moving in a direction that is not God's will, you will often experience a lack of peace, a restlessness, a check in your spirit. Learning to recognize and follow that peace is essential.Think about Jesus. He had perfect peace in every situation. When the storm raged on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus was asleep in the boat. His disciples were terrified, but Jesus was at peace. He said to them, "Peace, be still." Jesus was never panicked, never anxious, never driven by fear. He was always led by peace because He was always in perfect alignment with the Father.Think about Paul and his missionary journeys. In Acts 16, Paul and his companions were trying to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. We are not told exactly how the Spirit prevented them, but it likely involved a lack of peace. They were then led by a vision to go to Macedonia. Paul learned to be sensitive to the Spirit's leading, whether through open doors, closed doors, peace, or the absence of peace.Think about the early church in Acts 15. They faced a significant decision about whether Gentile believers needed to follow the Law of Moses. After much discussion, they came to a decision. Acts 15 verse 28 records their words. "It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us." They were led by the Spirit into a decision that brought peace to the church. So how do you learn to be led by peace? First, make peace with God through the blood of Jesus. Romans 5 verse 1 says, "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." If you are not at peace with God, you cannot be led by His peace. Confess your sins. Receive His forgiveness. Settle the issue of your relationship with God.Second, cultivate peace in your heart through prayer. Philippians 4 verses 6 and 7 promise that when you pray with thanksgiving, the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind. The more you pray, the more peace you have. The more peace you have, the more sensitive you are to the Spirit's leading.Third, learn to recognize the difference between God's peace and natural peace. God's peace is supernatural. It exists even in the midst of chaos. It does not depend on circumstances. Natural peace depends on everything going well. God's peace is present even when everything is going wrong. Learn to recognize that supernatural peace.Fourth, when you have a decision to make, present it to God in prayer and ask for His peace. Then wait. Do not rush. If you have peace after praying, move forward. If you do not have peace, wait. Do not force doors open. Let God's peace be your guide.Fifth, obey the peace when it comes. When God gives you peace about a decision, do not second-guess it. Do not let fear or doubt talk you out of it. Move forward in faith, knowing that the peace of God is leading you. What this produces in your life is a guidance system that will keep you in the center of God's will. The peace of God is like a compass that always points to God's will. When you are led by peace, you avoid many costly mistakes. You save yourself from unnecessary regret. You walk in the confidence that you are being led by the Spirit. Being led by peace is not always easy, but it is always right.Let us pray. Father, I want to be led by Your peace. Teach me to recognize the peace of the Holy Spirit in my heart. When I have decisions to make, help me to wait on You until I have Your peace. Give me the patience to not rush ahead of You. Give me the wisdom to recognize when I lack peace as a warning. Let Your peace rule in my heart as the umpire that guides my decisions. I trust Your peace to lead me in the right path. In Jesus mighty name, amen. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
