This week on the Binge, we covered Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' third chapter: The Burrow. In this chapter Harry is broken out of Cell Block 4, Prison Drive. In a flying car. Like you do.... Oh, and it's driven by children, across the country, into a muggle suburb. And nobody notices..... I also shine a light (lumos) on Fred & George Weasley, my theory on how much they like tinkering on muggle stuff with their dad and how that was the start of their joke shop. We do some divination foreshadowing, give house points, and callout the parts of the chapter that are utterly riddikulus! This week on the Binge, we covered Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' second chapter: Dobby's Warning. This chapter is bonkers! We have the light-hearted topics of house-elf enslavement, child abuse, wizarding mail fraud and owl tampering that we balance with more serious topics like a fear of birds and falling desserts! I also shine a light (lumos) onto Dobby as a character, how we're introduced to him and some of the highlights of his growth throughout the series. We do some divination foreshadowing, give house points, and callout the parts of the chapter that are utterly riddikulus! Hi! Welcome back to Belated Binge! This week we started Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets with the first chapter The Worst Birthday. This chapter is highlighted by Harry pretending to catch a bush on fire. Outside of that, it was a rough one. The Dursleys remind us how bad they suck through emotional and physical abuse. Luckily, if you can dodge a frying pan, you can dodge a concussion! If you enjoy this episode, check out all of the new benefits available on https://www.patreon.com/BelatedBinge! Hi! Since we're in between seasons, I'm taking a few weeks off from new episodes while gearing up for season 2 covering Chamber of Secrets. In the meantime, I've decided to share a few of my favorite bonus episodes nobody has gotten to hear yet. This week we had a special guest host, Sarah from First Years podcast (https://anchor.fm/first-years-podcast). In this bonus episode we discuss Slytherin house, house bias, the Sorting Hat, Harry as a Slytherin (spoiler: I disagree) Slytherin representation, and of course a couple of everyone's favorite Slytherins: Draco and Snape! It was a great discussion! If you enjoy this episode, check out the benefits available on https://www.patreon.com/BelatedBinge, which include access to all of the bonus episodes I've posted thus far! I'm also excited to share updates to those benefits coming for season 2! Since we're in between seasons, I'm taking a few weeks off from new episodes while gearing up for season 2 covering Chamber of Secrets. In the meantime, I've decided to share a few of my favorite bonus episodes nobody has gotten to hear yet. This bonus episode comes from our discussion with Amanda from The Fox and the Foxhound (https://www.thefoxandthefoxhound.com/). We discussed Alan Rickman playing Snape. Good casting? How did it impact the way people view book Snape? If you enjoy this episode, check out the benefits available on https://www.patreon.com/BelatedBinge, which include access to all of the bonus episodes I've posted thus far! It's the moment we've all been waiting for. The first ever Bingies! Much like the Oscars (but [hopefully] without the slaps), we are giving out awards for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone. In this episode, I'll share best/worst characters from listeners, tally up all of the Game Ball and Red Card awards I handed out for each episode, and also discuss nominees and winners for: Best Protagonist, Best Antagonist, Best Supporting Role, Most Underrated Character, Best Plot Development, Best Plot Twist, and a series of "prop bets" where I give my pick for random acknowledgements... To give feedback on my selections, join the conversation by leaving a voicemail or contact form on my WEBSITE. To support the show and get access to new benefits being announced soon, become a PATRON. I'll end the episode with the general game plan leading into season 2. Thank you so much for listening and I can't wait to keep going on the podcast journey with you!
WE DID IT! We finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's (Philosopher's) Stone! This week, we discuss the final chapter The Man with Two Faces. The final magical showdown between the 'real' bad guy with everything you could want like: bad guy exposition, no magic wands, a dude with a serial killer living on the back of his head, and a child burning a man's face with his bare hands.... We reflect on Dumbledore's relationship with the Mirror of Erised and a theory about its creation. As always, we pick out some fun foreshadow moments from the chapter and we theorize on the outcome of the Quirrell vs. Harry scene if Voldemort isn't camping out on Quirrell's head. We wrap up with awards and announce the first ever Bingies! I welcome your feedback! Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, Through the Trapdoor (16)
We're nearly to the end of our re-read of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's (or Philosopher's) Stone. Chapter 16, Through the Trapdoor is a BIG ONE... Harry, Ron and Hermione are put through the magic made for children gauntlet, training to become the heroes of our story!
To do so, they must get through the obstacle course setup by our puppet master, Albus Dumbledore. Their challenge: surviving a 3-headed dog (Fluffy), Devil's Snare, enchanted flying keys, a killer chess set, an already knocked out troll, and a potentially poisonous potions riddle in an attempt to reach the stone before our secret antagonist (spoiler: it's Quirrell or Voldemort.. Quirrelldemort).
I dive into my theory of how this is all a test for Harry and what each of the protective obstacles are meant to evaluate in our heroes in training. I also pick my favorite foreshadow moments, share some responses to Game of Inches (Expecto Plot-Chango) questions from social media (@belatedbinge), and give away some meaningless awards from the chapter - it's not a great one for Prof McG... Please rate & review if you enjoy the show!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, Norbert The Norwegian Ridgeback (14) and The Forbidden Forest
Sarah from First Years: A Harry Potter Podcast for adult first time readers of the series joined me and we went DEEP into the Dumbledore master plan theory.
How much did he know? When did he know it? And how close is he really to Firenze (aka Jax Teller with Hooves)?
We have a baby dragon adventure when Harry and Hermione have to get Norbert to the top of the tallest tower to meet up with Charlie Weasley's friends. Why these children are responsible for Hagrid's mess? YA Novels. Hogwarts also shows just how riddikulus the point system is when Professor McGonagall takes away 150 points from Gryffindor. This leads to an absolutely BONKERS detention where children are tracking a unicorn killer in the Forbidden Forest. Harry has a near-death experience when he interrupts Quirreldemort's feeding time. Thanks to Firenze, we also find out you-know-who aka Tom Riddle aka Voldemort aka the Dark Lord aka parasitic Voldy baby is after the stone! It's a big episode...
We also recorded a bonus episode for Free Elf and above level Patrons where we talked about the Hogwart's houses, house bias, and Sarah's love for Slytherin despite its representation in the series.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, The Mirror of Erised (12) & Nicolas Flamel (13)
The Mirror of Erised chapter begins with one of the greatest things in the entire series: Fred and George Weasley are pelting Professor Quirrell in the back of the head, and thus parasite baby Voldemort in the face with snowballs!
Harry also has his greatest Christmas in a decade of life with the Dursleys. Not only did he get an awesome Weasley jumper from Molly, he also received an invisibility cloak with a note from a mystery sender. The cloak had belonged to Harry's father James, and the sender was giving it to Harry. What this really means is that Albus Dumbledore planted a Deathly Hallow in the possession of an 11 year old child. And what do children who receive such a gift immediately do? They take a middle of the night time trip to... the library? Did he give this to Hermione???
After a riddikulusly close call, almost being caught by Filtch and Snape, Harry hides in a room and comes face to face with his family for the first time in his life. After a few more trips, he has a nice chat with Dumbledore and learns how the Mirror of Erised actually works. Later, he gets the brain blast of where he saw Nicolas Flamel's name before after receiving another Dumbledore chocolate frog card - thanks Neville! Hermione finds his name in her casual bedtime stories book and the Golden Trio learns about the Sorcerer's or Philosopher's Stone!
