Text: John 14:15-20

Jesus promises not to leave us as orphans but promises that He will send us the Helper, the Holy Spirit. Who is this Helper? He is:

1. The Spirit of Truth

2. One the World Cannot Receive

3. He Dwells with us Forever

4. He Gives us Spiritual Life

5. He is United in the Trinity.

Main Idea: In this passage, Jesus makes 3 powerful promises that focus us on God and our mission:

1. The Promise of His Person (v.7-11): Jesus promises that we know and see the Father through Him. This means we can know much about God by looking at Christ.

2. The Promise of Power (v.12): Jesus promises that His followers will do greater works than He did because He is going to the Father. This promise of power is connected with being His witnesses, not us doing spectacular things. 

3. The Promise of Prayer: Jesus promises that if we ask anything in His name, He will do it. This is not a magic formula but a promise that He is faithful to answer prayers in accordance with His character and will.

Sermon Text: John 13:31-38

Main Idea: In this passage, we can see three distinctions of true disciples of Christ:

#1: They Glory in the Cross. (v31-33) True disciples find their glory in the work of Christ on the cross alone. 

#2: They Love One Another. (34-35): The text is not talking about loving the world, though we should, Jesus says we will be known by our love for other believers.

#3: They are not Driven by Emotion (36-38): Though we should be passionate, discipleship is not about emotions, it is about a sober-minded commitment to follow Christ.

We see three major things in this text:

3. What Jesus Means: Jesus explains that no one is above serving. If He, the Lord, can serve, so should we. We are blessed if we know AND do these things.
