We are all in a spiritual battle, and we should prepare now for when that battle intensifies. In other words, don’t wait until you need it to try and get it. The way we prepare now for the battle is by putting on our spiritual armor and taking up the...

Scripture equips us for a profitable life as we believe it is God-breathed. Paul writes in 2 Timothy 3:16 that all scripture is breathed out or spoken by God, and is profitable for teaching, correction and training in righteousness, so that all the people of God may be made complete and equipped for good works. For the most part, those who grow up in a Christian church believe that the Bible is, in fact, God’s Word. There are, however, many church-goers that have yet to wrestle through why we believe the Bible is God’s Word or the importance of God’s Word today. As we seek answers and create conclusions for our own faith journey, we can go in confidence believing that Jesus, the basis on which our faith in scripture can be built on, is real: He lived, He died and He rose again for our eternal salvation.

The Bible reveals who God is and is fully trustworthy. Especially in Psalm 1:1-2, the heart of God is to bless. That blessing comes by meditating on Him and His ways, by study and meditation on Scripture. Unlike Eastern meditation, Biblical meditation is to think deeply and to fill our minds with the knowledge of God and His ways. It is to engage Scripture regularly and often enough to know what it reveals about God and how we should interact with Him. As we engage the Bible, we can trust it not only as an accurate historical document but also as the inspired revelation of God.

“The truth shall set you free.” We are enamored with the idea of freedom. From books to TV shows, to movies, the concept of freedom is often a major theme. When hearing the word “freedom” it is almost impossible to not think of Mel Gibson’s role of William Wallace in the movie Braveheart. However, while so many people talk about freedom, it is taken out of context most often. People argue freedom based upon truth, however, our culture seems to be confused on what is “true.” As Pastor David discussed last week, without a solid foundation of truth (God’s Word), we will not be able to sustain the winds and storms that come. Truth is God’s living and active Word. However, simply believing it is not enough.

As we begin a new year, we can agree that we all want our proverbial house to be strong and secure WHEN the storms come, not IF the storms come. A house that stands strong and secure in the midst of a storm relies on a strong foundation. A strong foundation equals a strong life. A strong foundation is built on truth. In order for our foundations to be strong, our beliefs have to be in line with truth. Truth is the Word of God revealed to us in scripture.
