MANIAC Adolph James (“Jimmy”) Rode was a walking nightmare - a Florida creeper who prowled through homes as people slept, blissfully unaware that a predator was within striking distance. Preferring familiar territory, this monster began preying upon his own neighbors at a young age. He had a taste for women - elderly women in particular - those who lived alone. His brutal crimes were allowed to go cold. After a brief stint behind bars for unrelated felonies, Rode recreated himself, relocated to the Pacific Northwest and assumed a new identity. He became a new man: Cesar Barone. Too bad he had the same old habits.

Between 1978 and 1983 self-obsessed loner, Dennis Nilsen, lured young men to his North London apartments before throttling or drowning them and indulging in a phantasmagorically tragic sexual ritual. His victims were posthumously subjected to an extended fetishized reverence before being disposed of like excrement.

Although his ghoulish obsession would result in drains clogged with pieces of the men and boys he had callously murdered and despite the mid-century charnel house decor of his apartment, Nilsen would become known as the "Kindly Killer" for his genteel manners and eagerness to admit to his gruesome hobbies.

Phillip Carl Jablonski was a heartless, soulless individual who fed off of the women who tried to help him. Never a person of privilege, he still wrangled light sentences for heinous crimes, time off for good behavior while in captivity, and seemingly endless mercy delivered to him via post from untrained well-wishers trying to help him find the path to goodness. Few realized until it was too late that he was quite committed to a different route.

Was it intense charisma or outright pity that led most of his victims to give him multiple chances? Was it a system failure? Or was he a misunderstood victim of abuse?
