DR Horton (DHI) - A play on housing and homebuilders. A Wall Street Journal story from Thursday afternoon read "Home Prices Posted Largest Annual Drop in More Than 11 Years in April." While the headline itself may have caused some concern, the data point referred to in the article wasn't quite as scary: existing home sales for the month of April were reported down a little less than 2% on a year-over-year basis.

 

On Holding (ONON) - A sympathy play in the shoe sector following weak quarterly results and guidance from Foot Locker (FL).

 

Express (EXPR) - An analyst at a boutique research shop discussed Express favorably ahead of the company's quarterly results next week on Wednesday. Small Cap Consumer Research's Eric Beder said, "With the Express stores slowly getting their groove back, the Bonobos acquisition a key plus and more accretive deals potentially on tap, we view EXPR as an impressive speculative play..."

 

Globant (GLOB) - A play on AI. Analysts at William Blair Friday morning highlighted the company's beat-and-raise quarter and described the company as "well versed in all things AI."

 

Lixiang Education (LXEH) - Shares of this penny stock were up nearly 50% following a report Chinese President Xi proposed to establish meeting and dialogue mechanisms to facilitate cooperation between China and central Asian countries in areas including education, agriculture and transportation.

STOCKS TO WATCH:  $WMT $SCHW $ATVI $CDW $FRGT

Walmart (WMT) - Shares traded slightly higher following better-than-expected quarterly results and raised guidance. Walmart raised its 2024 earnings per share guidance from a prior range of $5.90-$6.10 to $6.10-$6.20.

 

Charles Schwab (SCHW) - A play on continued favorable commentary by sell-side analysts. Deutsche Bank analysts Thursday morning highlighted concerns over the last few months related to Schwab cash-shorting issues, but noted these issues continue to ease. Schwab shares remain near lows not seen since the end of 2020.

 

Activision Blizzard (ATVI) - A sympathy play following earnings out of peer in the video game space, Take-Two Interactive (TTWO). Take-Two shares were up 11% following quarterly results. Activision Blizzard investors have at least one upcoming news catalyst on the horizon over the next month: the release of action role-playing game, Diablo 4.

 

CDW Corp. (CDW) - Shares saw volatile trading very early Thursday morning. The NYSE's Arca exchange commented on the trading and said erroneous trades in the issue would be busted, meaning those orders would be effectively cancelled and removed from the tape.

 

Freight Technologies (FRGT) - One of Thursday's momentum du-jour plays. Shares of this penny stock were up 15%. While the company did issue a press release Thursday morning, it was tough to say if the stock moved on the release. More likely, shares saw momentum as the issue is a low-float play with under 10 million shares in its float.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) - The company will host its annual shareholder meeting this week on Thursday. The event will begin at 12 p.m. EDT. While we know annual shareholder meetings are often times not a major news catalyst for investors, Wall Street has taken to listening carefully when AMD CEO Lisa Su speaks.

 

NIKE (NKE) - A sympathy play amid upcoming earnings out of peer in the sports apparel/retail space, Foot Locker (FL). Foot Locker will report on Friday of this week; NIKE is not expected to report their last-quarter results until the end of June.

 

Moderna (MRNA) - A play on a potential upcoming FDA news catalyst. The company is expected to report Phase 1/2 trial results from a propionic acidemia treatment candidate by Thursday of this week.

 

Hyatt (H) - Following the company's first investor day event in three years last week, an analyst at Morgan Stanley said investors faded the news in the stock. Despite the unfavorable reaction for Hyatt bulls, the Morgan Stanley analyst showed conviction a multi-year opportunity for Hyatt's management and its investors still remains.

 

Beam Global (BEEM) - A play on electric vehicle charging capabilities. Shares were up 20% Tuesday morning following better-than-expected quarterly results.

Sarepta Therapeutics (SRPT) - One of Monday morning's biggest winners. Shares were up nearly 30% following late-Friday news an FDA Advisory Committee panel supported approval of the company's gene therapy candidate to treat a rare neuromuscular disorder.

 

TJX Companies (TJX) - Traders in Benzinga Pro's lounge chat discussed TJX favorably Monday morning. One chatter noted TJX owns Home Goods, a retailer commonly viewed as a competitor to Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY). TJX will report quarterly results on Wednesday morning.

 

Monday.com (MNDY) - A workflow and management software provider. The stock was up 15% in Monday's pre-market session following better-than-expected quarterly results and guidance.

 

Lottery.com (LTRY) - A peer in the lottery space following news NeoGames (NGMS) will be acquired in a $1.2 billion deal. While shares of NeoGames were up over 100% on the news Monday morning, shares of Lottery.com had not yet responded to the industry news.

Comcast shares were unaffected amid the rumors.

 

Kroger (KR) - A Wall Street Journal cover story Friday morning answered "Why Amazon Isn’t Checking Out of Groceries." The article subheading read "Amazon is still barely scratching the surface of the grocery market despite years of efforts." Indeed, Kroger shares over the last two years are up more than 30%.

 

ON Semiconductor (ON) - An often overlooked top player in the global semiconductor industry. The company will host an analyst day event on Tuesday of next week. Corporations are known to give updates affecting management's outlook at these events.

 

2seventy bio (TSVT) - The company is expected to report Phase 1 data from a acute myeloid leukemia treatment candidate next week. 2seventy bio is expected to release the data at the American Society of Gene + Cell Therapy conference next week.

 

Clearmind Medicine (CMND) - A penny stock mover Friday morning. Shares were up more than 20% on news the company received ethics committee approval for a Phase 1/2 trial of its treatment compound for alcohol use disorder.

Home Depot (HD) - The company will report quarterly results on Tuesday of next week. Home Depot's sole publicly-traded peer in the home improvement retail space, Lowe's (LOW), will report on Tuesday, May 23. Investors should use results out of Home Depot and Lowe's as a way to get an indication for how consumers are spending related to the housing and home markets.

 

Tapestry (TPR) - Perceived as a play on luxury fashion and apparel accessories. Tapestry is the parent company of Coach, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman. The company will report quarterly earnings on Thursday before market open.

 

Upstart (UPST) - One of Wednesday morning's biggest winners. Shares were up about 30% following better-than-expected quarterly results and strong guidance. The company describes itself as a credit services company, providing "a proprietary, cloud-based, artificial intelligence lending platform."

 

Wag! Group (PET) - A play on the pet services space. Wag is a provider of a platform to allow pet owners to connect with pet caregivers for dog sitting, dog walking and training. The stock was up 5% Wednesday morning following mixed quarterly results and 2023 guidance which was better than expected.

 

Shengfeng Development Limited (SFWL) - One of this week's momentum plays. Shares rallied more than 100% on Tuesday despite no news catalyst. Investors and traders in the name took profit Wednesday morning; shares were down about 20%. This stock had several factors which contributed to the momentum this week: being a 1. low-float stock from a 2. China-based 3. overseas shipping company. These three categories have been known to create trading momentum.

Alibaba (BABA) - China's most economically-important companies will be in focus this week ahead of earnings out of the nation's second largest ecommerce company behind Alibaba, JD.com (JD). Shares of Alibaba and JD are known to move in tandem with each other. Alibaba will report quarterly results in two Thursdays, on May 18.

 

Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) - The company will release monthly sales data for April on Wednesday. Monthly sales figures are a common catalyst for the shares of many types of corporations.

 

Lucid Group (LCID) - One of Tuesday's most-discussed stocks. Shares were down nearly 10% following worse-than-expected quarterly results from this electric vehicle manufacturer.

 

Hyatt (H) - A way to understand the state of the economy from a hospitality and travel standpoint. Hyatt will host its investor day event on Thursday of this week.

 

G1 Therapeutics (GTHX) - A play on an upcoming FDA-related news catalyst. The company is expected to publish results from a Phase 2 trial of its triple-negative breast cancer treatment candidate by May 12

Disney (DIS) - Will report quarterly results after market close on Wednesday. Analysts expect earnings of $0.93 per share on sales of about $22 billion.

 

PacWest Bancorp (PACW) - Shares were one of Monday morning's biggest gainers, up 30% in the pre-market session. The stocks of several regional banks rebounded from recent lows Monday. Late on Friday, PacWest announced it would cut its quarterly dividend to $0.01 per share. It's not clear if the price action Monday morning is related to the stock rebounding after extreme downside or if investors reacted favorably to the dividend news.

 

AMC Entertainment (AMC) - Analysts at Macquarie responded in a research note Monday morning following AMC's quarterly results on Friday. The analysts were favorable on the long-term story for the movie industry moving forward but remained cautious on AMC shares. Roblox (RBLX) - Will report quarterly results on Wednesday before market open.

Western Alliance Bancorp (WAL) - Shares of Western Alliance, Comerica (CMA) and Zions Bancorp (ZION) were upgraded to the equivalent of a buy recommendation by analysts at JP Morgan. The analysts said "with too many on one side of the boat, we move to the middle."

 

CarMax (KMX) - A sympathy play following strong results out of peer in the used car space, Carvana (CVNA). While Carvana shares were up about 40% on the news, CarMax shares were down about 3% in Friday's pre-market session.

 

PENN Entertainment (PENN) - A sympathy play following good results out of peer in the sports betting space, DraftKings (DKNG). DraftKings shares were up about 14% while PENN shares were up about 3%.
