Mike Mulligan and Matt Spiegel conducted the daily 5 at 5 segment, which began with a conversation about the direction of the Bears' offense. Should general manager Ryan Pace tell coach Matt Nagy to start running plays better suited to quarterback Mitchell Trubisky or should he start looking for a quarterback who can run Nagy's entire playbook? The guys then discussed the future of linebacker Danny Trevathan. With the Bears eliminated from playoff contention, will Trevathan play again this season? And which linebacker is more likely to return to Chicago next year: Trevathan or Nick Kwiatkoski? The morning crew also discussed how the career of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes would've progressed if the Bears selected him at No. 2 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft instead of Trubisky. If Mahomes were forced to replace awful quarterback Mike Glennon in his rookie season, would he still have emerged as the league MVP in his second year? The guys then discussed whether Cubs fans should be concerned that division rivals are making moves to improve while their team is in stasis before sharing their respective picks to win the NL Central. Finally, the guys had a debate about how the White Sox should address their pitching needs. With the free-agent pitching market all but dried up outside of a couple of Scott Boras clients, should the White Sox turn to the trade market or save to spend another day? (12/18/19)
