After much discussion and maligning, we are no longer just blindly hating on "Being the Ricardos" but trying to find what's to love in the 2+ hour glimpse into what is apparently the scariest week in the lives of Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, and the cast and crew of "I Love Lucy." It amounts to a lot of Nicole as Carol Radziwill as Lucy futzing with the flowers and moving the piano bench. The real highlights of the movie are the Mertzes--Nina Arianda and Oscar nominee JK Simmons shine as second bananas ripe for more screen time. And while much has been laid at Kidman's feet for a loosey goosey Lucy, Aaron Sorkin's writing and direction were not doing her any favors. We may not be singing many praises this week, but at least we can now say we saw it!

Princess Diana is having the weirdest Christmas ever in "Spencer," with pearls in her soup, Anne Boleyn haunting her in the halls and only the encouragement of a potentially imaginary best friend Maggie, played by BSA Sally Hawkins, to keep her going till Boxing Day. It's definitely very different from the 9 or 10 biopics that already exist about the Princess of Wales, and honestly, thank god. Kristen Stewart certainly earns her Oscar nomination, as well as Johnny Greenwood's haunting score, and Timothy Spall and Sean Harris stand out in a movie full of uptight men in winer coats. Speaking of coats, that coat on the dress form really takes us down an unnecessary "Starting Over" tangent this week. Also: we spend a meaningful amount of time on the subject of Reuben sandwiches.

No this isn't another RHONY episode (insert Ramona laugh), we're finally covering "The Lost Daughter"! This year's multiple Oscar nominee includes a BSA nod to Jessie Buckley (not to be confused with Jessie Mueller) as the younger self of Queen Olivia Colman, who is serving up some perfect ice cream cone acting while on the holiday from hell (or at least some kind of purgatory) in Greece. We also get Assistant to the BSA Dagmara Dominczyk as Callie from Queens with that birthday cake, Peter Saarsgard's awful beard, far too much of children whining, and frankly still some questions about this movie. But as two childless gay men, we have lots to dig into about the "insufferable burden" of motherhood, the need to pull a Laura Brown and make a run for it and the existential dilemma of the modern empty nester. But we also celebrate Ed Harris in a sun-kissed supporting role and even queen out about Kathleen Quinlan a little bit!

Much to our surprise and delight, "The Power of the Dog" has more in common with "Brokeback Mountain" and "The Bad Seed" than that Netflix thumbnail would ever let on! Kirsten Dunst deserves all of the Oscar buzz surrounding her performance as the wilting Rose, with Kodi Smit-McPhee playing the original Demon Twink and Benedict Cumberbatch as the epitome of literal toxic masculinity. To say nothing of the deceased but ever-present Bronco Henry and his magazine collection!
