Big Picture:

Why did God give Israel a Kind when it was a sin for them to ask for a king? Their hearts were deceptive and out are too. We desire what God does not want us to have. Even in our sin and deceived hearts, God's grace keeps flowing and continues to do great things.

Big Picture: Asking ourselves what do we really want, can be quite revealing: It reveals who we trust, it reveals where our affections and it reveals how much we are trusting God.

Big Picture: God is in control when life is out of control and when we think it is out of control God is in control. That means He is an awesome God and no idols should come before Him.

Big Picture: We put ourselves in a dangerous place when we take things into our own hands without first hearing from God. The danger is a lack of seeing what God wants to do and the cost is a generation that cannot see.

Big Idea: Sometimes we believe in determinism more than we believe in trusting and honoring our Holy Heavenly Father.

Big Idea: Hannah did not separate human experiences from what she believed. Life can be good and it can be bad; our tendency is to separate life, what we believe from what we experience to compartmentalize life. It is our responsibility to see how God uses both together for they both belong to Him.

Big Idea: From Hannah’s prayer we learn that God accomplishes His purpose in prayer and God changes us through prayer. God does not have to accomplish His purpose through prayer, but He chooses to.

Big Idea: The books of 1 & 2 Samuel are about how God works, He is in control, He is always faithful and He is also gracious; God makes it clear to us to trust Him, His providence and also to bring our big and small issues to His feet.
