At the end of this letter to Timothy, we see a glimpse of the Apostle Paul’s heart - an eagerness to be surrounded by the Body of Christ in partnership in ministry; his friends, his companions, those whom he has mentored. Paul longs to stand with those whom he has discipled to minister together. Is there someone(s) in your own ministry you consider as part of your team you’re thankful for?

Paul remained faithful to God and the gospel message, despite opposition. He also encouraged Timothy to follow his example and fight the good fight, finish the race, keep the faith. This same encouragement has now been passed onto us.

How many churches are within a 1 mile radius of your home? Most likely, here in Houston, it would be hard to count them on one hand. Now, subtract those that aren't faithful to preaching the Gospel of Jesus and the truths of God’s Word? How many fingers do you still have up? Today’s passage gives an exhortation to preach the entire counsel of God and not just what tickles the ears of those in attendance.

There is no greater urgency to preach God’s Word than in our very own day. The church is crumbling apart as it neutralizes the message of God’s Word to accommodate a postmodern philosophy and culture. Paul’s encouragement to Timothy in today’s passage is to always be ready to reprove, rebuke and exhort God’s Word - whether in good times or bad.

Coming on the tail end of Paul’s encouragement to Timothy to continue in faithful study of God’s Word, we come to today’s text which sets the core foundation for the doctrine of Scripture being inspired by God.

How are you doing so far in the race that is following Christ? Maybe you started off the race in a sprint, but at some point became exhausted and dropped out. Or, maybe you lost interest along the way and drifted off to the side lines. Today, we’ll be examining 2 Timothy 3:10-15 that focuses on what it means to finish the race; what it means to hang tough even in tough times.
