How often do you associate beauty with prayer? Most of us don't think about prayer in this way, but we have a great example of someone in church history who used beautiful, poetic phrases to speak to the Lord.

What happens when we do what God says and our external obedience isn't good enough? This is described to us in the book of Isaiah where God pronounces judgment against His people, even though they were doing the external things He commanded them to do. Today we learn how much we need Jesus for our good to ever be good enough. This is the Better Bible Reading Podcast with Kevin Morris episode 71!

Today we're looking back again at an important figure in church history. This time we'll be looking at the english Puritan named John Owen. Today on Teaching Thursdays we'll be spending some time in Psalm 124. Psalm 124 calls us to think about our Christian life as an 'us and them' dynamic. But 'us and them' in Psalm 124 is not about Christians considering themselves better than others. Instead, it reminds us of God's grace and calls us to understand who we would be if it weren't for God. This is the Better Bible Reading Podcast with Kevin Morris Episode 69!

One of the ways Bible readers can grow in their appreciation of the Bible is by looking back to figures in church history. One such figure is John Calvin, a man who is either loved or hated. But rather than associating Calvin with abstract doctrines and theological debates, we should take some time to learn about the man behind the name. As we do that today, we'll see a man who spent his life upholding the Bible as the most important treasure given to God's people! We live in an uncertain time. I doubt the year 2020 has gone the way you originally planned. But whenever we get discouraged about things not going our way, we should remind ourselves of the fact that we do not know what a day will bring. This is James' point in his letter when he addresses to us the dangers of boasting about tomorrow, and it's our topic of discussion today. This is Teaching Thursdays episode 65!
