  • Sales done for you with Jim Padilla

Sales done for you - that is the service that Jim and his wife Cyndi offer to high level visionary entrepreneurs who are looking to significantly grow their businesses and know that having a team of high quality sales professionals alongside a revived and refreshed sales strategy is the key to success.

If you’re struggling along with making sales when that is clearly not your area of expertise and you are very ambitious then having sales done for you by Jim and his team could be the answer you are looking for.

In this episode of the Better Presentations More Sales podcast Jim explains how it all works and he will help you as a listener identify whether your organisation is the right one to have a conversation with him, and conversely if you are listening as a sales professional looking for a new challenge Jim is always on the lookout for top-quality people who are good at sales to add to his rockstar team.

Jim describes what he and Cyndi offer as untangling yourself from the day-to-day grind of generating leads and sales for your business and replacing that with a well oiled sales spinning machine enabling you to focus on delivering what you are good at.

Jim’s top tip is to think about what’s at stake for them if your potential client doesn’t solve the problem they have, a problem that you can solve. To stop thinking about who’s going to buy what you offer and instead think about who’s got a problem that you can solve, a problem that it doesn’t get solved is detrimental to that business.

You can find Jim at jimp360.com and find about the event Jim is running in mid-October

Jim’s new look podcast is Sales Team Ready - find it on all the popular podcast apps.

  • How to avoid too much detail in your presentation

One of the challenges all presenters face is having too much detail in their presentation, remembering that a presentation is usually a snapshot or summary of your ideas and as such is often a key stepping stone to the next step towards being hired by a potential client or doing more work for an existing client.

In this episode of the Better Presentations More Sales podcast I'm going to share with you three key things you can do to help ensure your presentation flows and doesn't get bogged down in the detail. They are based on some recent 1:1 presentation coaching I've been doing with clients who faced this exact same challenge - they wanted originally to include far too much detail in their presentation. If you need help with your presentation check out my 1:1 presentation coaching service

Let's not forget that with any presentation our key goals are to engage our audience,  educate them – which means sharing ideas and information they probably don't know about or hadn't thought about, enthuse them and to a degree entertain them.

So here are the three ways you can do that:

Firstly don't start your presentation with detail and information about yourself, your company, its history, its awards, its great coffee machine etc... – in the vast majority of cases when you do a presentation or pitch the people you are presenting or pitching to already know lots about you because that is why there invited you to do your presentation or pitch so don't lose momentum immediately by going over the stuff about you that they already know about you.

Secondly don't put too much detail on your slides – it's not the number of slides that causes death by PowerPoint it's the content of those slides – so don't write chapter and verse on each slide, don't use complex diagrams, don't combine images and words – make the slides simple – use them as a prompt not a script both for you and the audience.

Thirdly don't let your narrative become too detailed – what I mean my narrative is the words you are speaking. In practice you won't do this but when you go 'live' there is a danger that you will elaborate too much and spend too much time on each point, the result of which will be you will almost certainly overrun your time and lose momentum with your presentation.

Remember that I always advocate that when you practice your presentation you aim to do that in between 80 and 85% of your allocated time so on the day that gives you a bit of a buffer for narrative expansion, but not too much.

  • Use your Voice when Presenting with Susan Murphy

Use your Voice when presenting - it can make such a difference to the outcome.

In this episode of the Better Presentations More Sales podcast broadcast voice coach Susan Murphy shares tips, advice and ideas to help you use your voice when presenting.

Susan has years of professional voice lessons, on-air experience and teaching in the broadcast sector and works with TV anchors and reporters to help them ensure their storytelling is pleasant to listen to. Using the same principles Susan shares in this episode how you too can use your voice to make your presentation or pitch more pleasant to listen to, whether that be in person or online.

As Susan says if you elevate your voice you potentially elevate your career.

Susan emphasises how important it is to use your authentic voice but to use it to the best you can and she shares some tips and ideas around how to breathe, how to lower your shoulders and how to use the power of the pause.

Susan also shares a great practice idea which is to record yourself then playback at high volume but listen to yourself in a different room. Try it and see how it benefits you

You can find Susan’s website susanmurphyvosot here

And you can also find Susan on Linked In

Susan’s top three tips to conclude the episode were:

    • Instead of thinking you’re nervous about your presentation, try instead to think you’re excited about your presentation
    • Don’t forget that if you drop your shoulders it will help you with your speaking voice
    • And finally don’t underestimate the power of the pause when you are delivering your presentation or pitch

  • How to launch a business podcast

In this episode of the Better Presentations More Sales podcast I’m sharing tips and ideas to show you how to launch a business podcast

Podcasts are a growing communication medium so why should you start a business podcast?

    • It will help you build brand awareness, credibility and authority
    • It will generate demand for your product or service
    • It will strengthen the marketing communication experience you offer
    • It will help you engage and retain existing customers as well as communicate with your team
    • And it could create additional revenue streams for

Just like a presentation a podcast needs to engage, educate, enthuse and to a degree entertain its audience

So what you need to create a business podcast?

Stand-up content which will be based on your expertise

Guests that bring value to your audience as well as being interesting

Slick production but not too much editing otherwise there is a danger you lose your authenticity – I use a product called Hindenburg

If you are going to use guests that make it easy for them to book onto your podcast and consider using something like Calendly

You will need to host your podcasts and I use Buzzsprout – make sure the house is then sending your podcast at all the top podcast directories such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts etc…

You don’t need lots of expensive kit to start with but I would recommend a USB microphone - I use Audio Technica but there are plenty of options available.

Don’t make your first episodes too long because they are the ones that you need to get audience engagement with so they want to listen again – maybe aim for 15 to 20 minutes for those first episodes

You will need some artwork professionally created which represents your podcast logo - your hosting site will confirm the dimensions needed

And finally when you kick-off consider recording three or four episodes to start with so you have some ready to go, that will help you ultimately get you past the seven episodes mark. Its amazing how quickly the next weekly release date comes around!

  • Platinum Jubilee Business Lessons

Platinum Jubilee Business Lessons - this podcast goes out as here in the UK, and indeed across parts of the world we reach the conclusion of four days celebration for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

So what are the Platinum Jubilee business lessons that we can learn and utilise?

Firstly throughout those 70 years the Queen has met thousands indeed hundreds of thousands of people and performed vast amounts of ceremonies and at each one she has had to be on her 'A Game' and you to need to be on your 'A Game' when you interact with other people whether that's through presentation, sales pitch, an incoming call or indeed with colleagues.

Secondly making people feel special whenever you interact with them in a business context, regardless of who they are and how long the interaction takes place. Whether that colleagues or strangers you meet at networking  or other business events. Taking an interest in them and what they are up to stands you out.

And thirdly being resilient and able to bounce back when things don't go your way, when you don't deliver a great presentation, or you lose a sales pitch or client, or you miss out on that promotion – how we react to these situations helps define our character going forward.

I mention in the podcast some webinars I got coming up which you may wish to attend week commencing June 13th.

  • How successful are your demos?

    How successful are your demos?

Demos are a key part of business life but how successful are your demos?

In this episode of the Better Presentations More Sales podcast I'm sharing with you tips and ideas to help you deliver better, more successful demos - and you can apply the tips and ideas to presentations and sales pitches.

Here is a summary of those tips and ideas:

Do your research and be well prepared

Start by explaining what’s going to happen, how you want your audience  to be involved, how long it will take……

Before you dive in to the demo check ask your audience to remind you what they’re envisaging their need is for your product or service – in other words why are you there to do  a demo in the first place

Don’t start too quickly – give the audience a chance to latch onto your pace and then you can gradually speed up if you need to

As you proceed with your demo you need to keep your audience involved, particularly if you are delivering online. If you say something like ‘Any questions so far?’ there’s a good chance they will say 'No'  so you have to ask open-ended questions that they need to reply to eg ‘What are you thinking at the moment?’

Try not to think in terms of traditional sales objections – instead think temporary barrier which needs removing, so I might say something along the lines of ‘is there a particular reason why you can’t envisage your teams using this product or service?’

Many deliverers of demos feel the need to deliver exactly what they have prepared and this in itself can be a barrier to success, so you have to go in ready to be flexible, ready to leave bits out if they clearly not needed, ready to deliver in a different order to what you might have planned, ready to take some tricky questions  during the demo which you might prefer to save to the end.

Establish the buying process – this is really important and I think one of the best ways of doing that is to simply ask: ‘Apart from yourself who else is involved in the buying process and how does it work?’

Finally and crucially before you leave the demo, pitch or presentation clarify and agree precisely the next step

Ask yourself: ‘What do I want to achieve today?’, ‘What do I want the outcome of today to be?’

  • 4 steps to audience connection with Izzy Lobacz

On this episode of the Better Presentations More Sales Podcast I’m joined by Izydor Lobacz - (Easy Izzy  on Linked In)

Izzy helps entrepreneurs and sales people connect to their audience were now delivering presentations or sales pitches

Izzy shares a four step process that will help listeners deliver more successful pitches and presentations:

    1. Your offer – be absolutely clear about what your offer is, how it benefits your audience and why they should be interested in it
    2. Communication – this is understanding how to create what Izzy describes as an ‘easy emotional atmosphere for your audience’ – making sure that your audience can feel that they trust you, and that they can visualise what it will be like working with you and using your product or service
    3. Sales skills – the key here is to not be over talkative, to listen better, to ask better questions and to therefore ensure that your audience sees you as confident but not arrogant and looks forward to working with you
    4. Presentation skills – in this context we are really bringing all of the previous three items together to deliver that high-quality presentation or pitch that effectively helps you gain sale or deal

And all of this comes together in Izzy’s key tip for listeners to take away and implement straightaway and that is : Don’t think me versus you, think we

  • Say it Out Loud with Vasavi Kumar

If you want to believe in something, particularly to do with yourself, then Say It Out Loud

On this episode of the Better Presentations More Sales Podcast I’m joined by Vasavi Kumar who specialises in helping people find a space and opportunity to Say It Out Loud

This is a high energy fast paced episode during which Vasavi shares tips and ideas to help you convince yourself that you can do whatever it is you want by overcoming what she describes as the ‘itty-bitty shitty committee’ that exists in your head telling you that certain things aren’t possible

Indeed the headline on Vasavi’s website is:

You can get anything you want

You just need to say it out loud

Vasavi advocates talking to yourself in the mirror indeed her top tip is to look in the mirror and ask yourself ‘Who am I at my very best?’

The same principle applies when trying to be confident enough to record yourself on video because as Vasavi suggests what’s the difference between talking to a mirror and talking to your iPhone?

This is a high-energy episode which I hope will encourage listeners to be that high-energy person themselves and use the concept of Say It Out Loud to go off and do things particularly in the presenting and sales arenas that they may currently try their very best to avoid

I know that when I launched my 44@60 campaign back in 2020 it seemed hugely daunting but the more I talked to everybody about it, and the more I shouted about it the more I believed that I could achieve it, which I did.

You can find out more about Vasavi’s offerings, including a Say It Out Loud group programme starting in August 2022 and her Say It Out Loud book due for launch in Spring 2023 via VasaviKumar.com

During the episode Pete will get you laughing, he will also explain the benefits of laughter to you and your business, and how a laughter yoga session can help with creative thinking business planning.

Laughter can be contagious and in business sometimes we take ourselves too seriously, and when we do laugh and humour comes into the situation think about how it makes us feel, and how it can enhance our relationships with customers and potential customers and if we are doing presentations with our audience.

Laughter doesn’t need to be about telling jokes, indeed Laughter Yoga has got nothing to do with telling jokes.

Pete offers 30 minute Laughter Yoga sessions on Zoom as well as one-to-one sessions.
