Between the Gigs

I, like many of you, have a complicated relationship to Spotify. Streaming services have changed the way people consume music, and for many artists that change has led to complete resignation and existential despair. But my guest Justin Mathews looks at the bright side of streaming and offers his take on how creative artists always find a way to navigate the challenges of their time. Check out the new single from Llinks, an artist produced by Justin, called ‘Slow Burn’ https://earmilk.com/2020/02/20/llynks-intertwines-gothic-sensibilities-on-slow-burn/

This week Daniel Bennett and I discuss his latest album We Are the Orchestra, download the album here: https://danielbennett.net/we-are-the-orchestra, his career as a touring musician, and a mish-mosh of philosophy and stories of Daniel’s between the gigs life.

Bonus Episode: The Hairy Billionaires pod showcase!

The Hairy Billionaires is a comedy rock opera starring Sherry and Thierry Billionaire. In this special episode, we give you the first look at 2 new songs we’ve recorded for the show. My guest and writing partner Greg Marino helps me introduce this brave new operatic work.

This week we chat about navigating the recording industry for jazz musicians, and Marta and Chase speak about their new records as bandleaders

You can (and should!) Purchase them by following these links: https://www.soundsaboundrecords.com/releases/a-life-between-autographed, https://martasanchezquintet.bandcamp.com/

This week I sit down with pop culture expert Diana Gaeta, the host of ‘Femsplained’ podcast. We have a saucy exchange about the state of popular music in 2019. In the end, we both die on our respective hills with no shots fired.

This week my guest Marco Frey takes us on a mind journey exploring the world of digital marketing for musicians.

In the Spring of 2018, The Broadway show “Soul Doctor” set out on what was advertised as a world tour ending in Jerusalem. It was a show about a holy ‘Rockin’ Rabbi who moved to San Francisco, and has been called “Hair meets Fiddler on the Roof”. The company of performers became a close knit hippy family. But little by little we discovered our backers sabotaging the show at every turn. It was as if we had followed a false holy man. Marty sits down with his orchestra friends Brian and Janet to tell the tale.

This week my guest is drummer Eric Reeves. We discuss growing up in a musical family, the perils of improvisation and his philosophical approach to life as a musician.

Marty sits down with guest Greg Marino to discuss their comedy rock-opera/band/conceptual masterpiece, “The Hairy Billionaires”. Marty goes on a tangent to DESTROY Long Island. Greg modestly protests, but ultimately capitulates.
