  • Ep. #358: June 9-14, 1991 with Dave Prazak

Kris & David are joined by Dave Prazak (@DavePrazak) for a Patron-requested show (you can get your own show by going to our Patreon page and following the protocol) to discuss the almost-week that was June 9th-14th, 1991.

    • We start off with the infamous UWF BEACH BRAWL pay-per-view event promoted by Herb Abrams and what a doozy this was. We talk about everything that went wrong both in the ring and out of it; although it's full of wackiness, the in-ring wrestling wasn't nearly as bad as you would've expected.
    • We then go to the WWF, where we talk about the upcoming George Zahorian trial and how that could affect the company as the year went on, as well as TV ratings, house shows, and a WWF CEREAL in the works.
    • On the international scene, we start in Japan, where we talk about a big WWF star wanting to work for All Japan, New Japan running a big show at Budokan Hall, SWS & the WWF running joint shows, and more before going to Mexico, where we discuss Konnan becoming the first ever CMLL World Heavyweight Champion as well as other news and results.
    • Next up is the U.S. indie scene, which is extremely light since we didn't have a Saturday in our week, but we talk about Eric Embry's failure as a booker when it comes to business, Joe Pedicino's GWF being days away from officially landing a TV deal with ESPN, and The National Sports Daily going out of business.
    • WCW closes the show, with the focus being Clash of the Champions XV: Knocksville, USA, where we go over the entire, infamously overstuffed show. We basically rebook the whole thing to keep it from being a complete mess, plus we have cameos from Jason Hervey as well as Pepa & Spinderella from Salt-N-Pepa, to boot. All that and much more in a classic "WCW, everybody!” section that you can't miss.

Tremendous show as always with Prazak sitting in with us, so LISTEN NOW!!!!!!!

  • Ep. #357: June 1-7, 2000

Kris & David are guestless as we discuss the week that was June 1-7, 2000.

    • We start the show with WCW, as we go over what was really going on with SFX’s to possibly buy the company, along with trying to appease Hulk Hogan & Bill Goldberg at a time when the company could be sold. We also talk about a wild Monday Nitro featuring Vince Russo vs. Ric Flair inside a Steel Cage and all kinds of other insanity. We also go over Thunder and the usual mass confusion that it caused in 2000. Among other topics in this section, we also talk about the planned Fight Club/Knockout Club stable and inquiries made into bringing Dennis Rodman back.
    • Japan is next, where we talk about PRIDE shooting a big angle involving Tokimitsu Ishizawa (Kendo Ka Shin), AJPW in the final days before the split, NJPW during the Best of the Super Junior tour, CZW dominating Big Japan, a major Toryumon show, and a lot more.
    • We then go to Mexico, where we talk about the AAA wrestlers invading Arena Mexico to set up the big Padrissimo show was coming soon, as well as other stuff from Mexico & Puerto Rico.
    • ECW is up next, and what a section this is, as we go over a wild week in the life of Paul Heyman, featuring a major talent meeting, The Sandman acting like a complete moron, and a lot more. Then we go to the indies where the main story is what could've been a possible tragedy on the live Power Pro TV show in Memphis, and a lot more.
    • We close with the WWF, where there is a shakeup in the power structure that would be huge as the year goes on, Raw & Smackdown being all over the place with lots of wackiness while still drawing major ratings, and a lot more.

This show was a blast, so you’d better not miss it!!

  • Ep. #352: April 28-May 2, 1993 with Alfredo Esparza

Kris & David are joined by Alfredo Esparza (@therealfredo) to discuss the (almost-)week that was April 28-May 2, 1993. We start off talking about the very first Triplemania event put on by AAA and how it changed the game in lucha libre, drawing the biggest crowd in Mexican wrestling history at Plaza de Toros in Mexico City. We go through each match, particularly Konnan vs. Cien Caras in a loser must retire match with Jake Roberts playing a part in the finish. We also talk about everything else going on in the lucha world that week in one of our longest Lucha sections ever. We then go to WCW where we talk about the debut of the Blackhearts and Ric Flair's Flair for the Gold, which was a doozy, among other WCW craziness. We also talk about Robert Fuller appearing on SMW & WCW TV on the same day as Col. Robert Parker makes his debut, and one of the greatest Memphis TV matches in the history of the territory. To bring it home, we try to explain the insanity of the GWF in this era to Fredo before going to the WWF, where Hulk Hogan is doing Hulk Hogan things on TV. All that plus a free preview of our new Patreon-exclusive deep dive, so listen now!

  • Ep. #351: April 19-25, 1989 with Beau James

Kris & David are back this week with another episode of Between the Sheets, this time a Patreon request, as Nick Masci wanted us to talk about the week of April 19th-25th, 1989. And as a special treat, we are joined again by Beau James (@kingofkingsport) in all of the American sections. Nick wanted us to talk about New Japan's first show at the Tokyo Dome, Battle Satellite, and we do just that, as we talk about the importance of the event — tracing the history of Antonio Inoki — as well as a full rundown of this major, historically important show that featured the debut of the Jushin Thunder Liger gimmick and Shinya Hashimoto getting drafted back from Memphis so he could become a star overnight. Among other international topics, we also talk about AJPW going to a more "traditional" pro wrestling style to counter NJPW & UWF going to a more a "worked shoot" style.

We also discuss The State of the WWF after WrestleMania and the then-annual “off-season,” featuring Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage starting their massively successful post-WM house show run, the stiffness of Ronnie Garvin vs. Greg Valentine, Dusty Rhodes making big claims in Florida, Beau getting the skinny directly from Dr. Tom Prichard to set the record straight on the stories of him going to the NWA in 1989, the amazing Nick Gulas/Robert Fuller/Jeff Jarrett angle in Memphis, the equally amazing Eric Embry/Skandor Akbar angle in World Class, The State of the NWA six months after the Turner takeover, and a ton more.

This is a fantastic show, so listen now!!!!!

Kris & David are joined by the returning Beau James (@kingofkingsport) for a TWO-PART episode of BTS celebrating our 350th show, discussing the week-plus that was April 12-19, 1994. We start with WCW, where it's a massive section featuring Hulk Hogan officially reaching a deal with the company, Jesse Ventura winning his big videotape royalties lawsuit over the WWF, Brian Pillman & Steve Austin re-upping their contracts for two years, 2 Cold Scorpio getting fired over his love of jazz cigarettes, Missy Hyatt on A Current Affair, and, oh yeah…SPRING STAMPEDE ’94, one of the greatest PPV's ever. We then go to Japan, where we talk about an epic April 16th in Tokyo, as All Japan has Champion Carnival finals at the Budokan after Mitsuharu Misawa's "injury" shook everything up, while New Japan has the first SUPER J-CUP at Sumo Hall, which changed Japanese wrestling in many ways both in Japan and in western fan culture. We also have the UWFi returning to PPV in the United States, Tonya Harding turning down All Japan Women, and tons more. Check out part 2 for Other North America, Other USA, and the WWF!
