Between The Sheets

Here's the text update we posted on Patreon eartlier; we get more detailed on the audio. (Where we also congratulate Steve Corino on his recent nuptials.) Plus we get into more details on how soon the banked Patreon show will come out, as well as Center Stage Chronicles among other things. But just listen to the audio to get the full update.

First off: Apologies for forgetting to post this here previously. But based on the numbers, it looks like you guys mostly saw the social media updates, and we greatly appreciate the continued support, especially under the circumstances.

David's been dealing with some medical issues (of the constant conflicting diagnoses kind, and we'll leave it at that for now), but the hope is that we can get back to at least the normal Patreon schedule in the next week or so. (We have Lawler/Kat part 2 already recorded from before everything went haywire, to boot.) Main show is still a little shakier, but Kris and I are gonna record a quick audio update to post on the main feed shortly. We may ease back in with a modified format, but once we're back at full power, all queued Patreon picks will be up first. Nobody's going to have to wait a year for the week to come back around or anything like that. And then we'll move back to the regular schedule once we get those done.

Again, all of the well wishes and continued support are greatly appreciated. It means a lot. At least on here, you can expect more content at the normal schedule in a matter of days at the most. Appreciate all of you. We may not have the numbers of a current wrestling-focused podcast like The Flagship or a bigger nostalgia show like Lapsed Fan, but you've still pushed us to a level where we routinely get offered early access to new creator features and things like that are reserved for top creators. So we're doing something right, it seems, and at least behind this paywall, things are about to get back to normal.

Kris and David are back as we discuss the week that was February 13-19, 1999, a show that was requested by Tim Ostrander by dropping $25 on our Patreon page: Topics of discussion include:

• Ric Flair being left in the farmlands of Florida being the main story of what was was, up to that point in time, the worst episode of WCW Monday Nitro in it's history.
• Also on Nitro, we get Bret Hart vs. then “Mad TV” star Will Sasso in a shockingly cromulent match, Hulk Hogan vs. Roddy Piper in a HORRIBLE match, Torrie Wilson as “Samantha" seducing an off-camera David Flair, and a lot more lunacy.
• Lots of finger pointing afterwards among the decision makers of WCW on why their new concept of Nitro is failing so horribly.
• Bill Goldberg reluctantly challenges "Stone Cold" Steve Austin on the Tonight Show.
• AJPW runs their first show after the death of Giant Baba at Korakuen Hall.
• Masa Saito's retirement ceremony at Budokan Hall takes place on Valentine's Day in NJPW.
• Antonio Inoki negotiates for Naoya Ogawa to win the NWA World Heavyweight Title.
• Brazo de Plata allegedly roughs up a kid who was bullying his son…the future Psycho Clown.
• Drama with Shane Douglas and ECW keeps building up.
• -Public Enemy leaves ECW high and dry on bad terms.
• Jerry Lawler shows what a "Southern Gentleman" is like to Shawn Stasiak's "sister" on Memphis Power Pro TV.
• A very lackluster Saturday Night Raw at Skydome, which then leads to the St. Valentine Day's Masscare PPV the next night, featuring the debut of Paul Wight coming through the ring and throwing Steve Austin through the cage.
• Vince McMahon being featured on Dateline NBC while the PPV is on the air and all the wackiness surrounding that.
• Raw after the PPV, featuring Sable officially turning heel in a show that absolutely destroyed Nitro in the ratings.

This is just the tip of the iceberg as there is so much more on this show, so you don't want to miss it!!

• A wacky episode of USWA TV featuring Scott Bowden’s continuing efforts to win the affections of Downtown Bruno’s wife, Uptown Karen.
• The pretaped Bodyguards vs. Bandits show debuting on PPV and what a debacle that was.
• The lights going out at Monday Nitro in Lakeland, FL as Lex Luger and Sting wrestle The Road Warriors, and Eric Bischoff makes a big mistake afterwards implying that it was a plot by Vince McMahon.
• Also on Nitro, Brian Pillman and Kevin Sullivan escalated their worked shoot angle in a crazy match, plus Woman turns heel on Randy Savage while they also foreshadow Elizabeth's pending turn.
• News from Universal Studios tapings featuring The Giant as a babyface with Ed Leslie as THE CLIPMASTER by his side.

Kris Zellner is joined by Rob Naylor and our Good Buddy Charles as we discuss the month of January 1991 in not only World Championship Wrestling, but also the world of pop culture in general. Topics of discussion include:

• The greatness of Buddy Landel.
• Bobby Eaton coming into his own as a singles wrestler.
• Paul E. Dangerously and Missy Hyatt kickstart their feud that would last many months.\
• Konnan, Steve DiSalvo as THE MINOTAUR, and Larry Cameron appear on TV in “blink and you’ll miss it” runs.
• Dusty Rhodes officially taking over as the head booker and making his big return at the Clash of the Champions…just 11 days after his WWF farewell at the Royal Rumble.
• Ric Flair regaining the NWA World Heavyweight Title (and winning his first WCW World Heavyweight Title; it’s complicated) from Sting at the Meadowlands on a show also featuring Lawrence Taylor seconding Lex Luger in a Football Match against The Big Cat during a blizzard in the NYC area.
• Arn Anderson and Barry Windham hit the streets as the Horsemen have been reborn in some AMAZING vignettes.
• The debut of Sullivan's Saloon.
• The United States entering the Persian Gulf War and how that changed the way wars are covered on television.
• Diamond Dallas Page makes his WCW debut.
• Rundowns of the Golden Globes and American Music Awards, featuring Gloria Estefan making her public return after her near death experience in a bus accident a year earlier.
• Michael Wallstreet walking out of WCW,
• Steve Urkel showing up on Full House
• Super Bowl XXV, which was, at the time, the greatest Super Bowl ever, but totally overshadowed by Whitney Houston's amazing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner
• Divinyls, Jesus Jones, and Gerardo respectively release "I Touch Myself,” “Right Here, Right Now,” and “Rico Suave” on the same day.
• Clash of the Champions XIV featuing Ric Flair vs. Scott Steiner and a whole lot more.

This was a tremendous show and a fascinating glimpse at how WCW was perceived as Dusty Rhodes takes over and implements his booking philosophy.

Kris and David ARE BACK!!!!! after our battles with the epic Winter 2025-2026 Flu and discussing the (almost-)week that was January 2-7, 1988. Topics of discussion include:

• Andre the Giant attacking Hulk Hogan after his match with King Kong Bundy on an otherwise not very newsworthy episode of Saturday Night's Main Event to heat up their match in prime time on The Main Event a month later.
• King Kong Bundy and his job as the celebrity spokesman for Vendex Head Start Computers, which allowed him to more or less retire from wrestling
• Curt Hennig defending his AWA World Title in AJPW…in disappointing fashion, at least according to insiders.
• NJPW kicking off the first ever Top of the Super Juniors tournament with a LOADED lineup of talent.
• ICW trying to heat up an Iron Sheik vs. Georga Skaaland feud of all times.
• Renegade Tobacco getting heavily involved with Jarrett Promotions, complete with a press conference on TV.
• Shawn Michaels being completely hammered on live TV as he’s going off on Scott Hall and Ken Wayne.
• Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee talk about their friendly rivalry and the importance of the Lord of the Ring…ring.
• World Class starting to heat up with Ken Mantell is back in power.
• JCP TV starting to get spiced up as Lex Luger is catching fire as a babyface and they experimented with taping the TBS show on the road.
• Ric Flair accosting photographer Linda Roufa for a TV promo, which was quite the 1988 moment.

This was a damn fun show and it's great to get back in the saddle again!!!
