Beyond Boxing

We are back where we started at the beginning of the lockdown, 'Fury v Joshua is next.' We all know that it isn't true and that, in this silly season, we are going to hear all types of ridiculous claims and counter claims.

It all serves to keep boxing in the spotlight, but we must be getting tired of this nonsense surely.

We also celebrate Kugan calling Hearn on his nonsense, which is always welcome.

The audio is a bit sketchy, we needed some time to get up to speed, but we always get there. Plus, my intro will sound better on this one.

Enjoy the reunion episode where we just cover where boxing is in the midst of the lockdown. We talk about how let down fans have been with the efforts from the boxing world to give back.

As always, please like, share and review our content. It helps us get out there and maybe one day, become the voice of real boxing fans.

What Devin Haney said was racist. Let us not swerve the issue. The fact that his handlers were so quiet says everything you need to know about the rot in boxing.

Remember to like, share retweet and all that good stuff that gets us a wider reach and lets more fans understand the game.

This week's episode:

Joshua finally making noise about winning all 4 belts, but is it more window dressing. Is he making noise knowing he has two mandatories coming up@

We discuss Terri Harper and the tough path female boxers face in defining themselves with a sport that values violence above all else.

Celebrate Billy Joe Saunders managing to avoid any big fights...for another year. Nobody thought it would be possible to do it with two promoters. Wrong!

We touch on those peaky numbers again...

Just a quick tour of a few topics.

We look at why amateur boxing is in a poor state and why we might never see the days of 2008 again.

We look at where boxing can go after the lockdown is lifted.

We also look at boxers that are over/underrated. Don't forget to tell us who you think is criminally overrated or underrated.

We have had 4 years of Anthony Joshua as champion. Yes, it is an impressive achievement considering where he came from. Very few manage to achieve half of what he does, so we should respect what he has achieved.

However, for what was promised by his promoters, we have been violently short-changed. His own fans have hung onto false dreams and now many realise that he is unlikely to every be the great that many hoped he would be.

Thought we would try something different with this episode. So, I handed the reins over to my friend Riku Heikkila - @lead_right and he hit me with a few questions.

I tried to be as honest as I could be and in some cases probably hit harder than i had planned to, but this is the beauty of a podcast, it could go anywhere.

I am sure that you'll enjoy this one.

Remember, to like, share and retweet the podcast if you enjoy it.

This break from boxing is literally driving boxers mad. At a time when discipline and focus is essential, a lot are falling to pieces.

Scott Fitzgerald seems like an accident waiting to happen. You wonder where the people are that can help him overcome his demons. It would be a human tragedy if these demons consumed him.

Also, if you listen and don't support, have a word with yourself.

It is a slow week in boxing and only Billy Joe Saunders could unite the sport is disappointment and frustration.

Has any one man wasted so much talent and earning potential in any sport. He is slowly becoming the guy nobody can trust and that will hurt his pockets more than anything.

All those years Eddie Hearn lusted after him and now he realises that it was all in vain.

Had planned to do a completely different episode, but this one took on a life of it's own.

How can channels that were doing 1m plus views just six months ago be struggling to break 20k views now, especially when people have more time than ever to consume content. Everybody is seeing a growth in numbers, in contrast, the boxing outlets have seen a crash in numbers, with the same cast of characters to interview.

It is only right to ask where the hell the numbers went and how the sponsors will react.
