Unfortunately, in one meal we can overeat by over 1000 calories which would take over 4 hours of vigorous weightlifting to burn off! Do you punish yourself with exercise or reward yourself with food? Learn why this isn't a prosperous strategy and reframe how you see food with this episode.
In this podcast I go over how much sleep you should be getting and the benefits of healthy sleep (as well as what that entails). Find out if operating on sleep debt and credit (catching up on sleep on the weekends) is a good strategy and hear 5 tips to help you get better sleep as well as a few tips I threw in to make waking up easier. Then I went into a little bit of a tip and theory about macro tracking specifically as it relates to my binge of a weekend away from home.
Mentioned:
Matthew Walker, Sleep Expert (Here's his interview on Joe Rogan where he has tons of valuable insight, definitely look into shorter clips on YouTube if you don't have the inclination to watch the whole thing.) https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=matthew+walker+joe+rogan
https://www.howsleepworks.com/types_cycles.html Some good info about sleep cycles, which I mentioned, with charts.
Side note: might delve deeper into macros at some point soon because I couldn't exactly find a crystal clear blog explaining what they are like I thought I might be able to.
In this podcast I talked about how to get on track with your fitness in the New Year which included some notes on "sunk costs" and "paralysis by analysis." Then I went on to talk about my personal goals as well as goals in general with some advice, anecdotes, and resources that have been beneficial to me.
Check out the blog I wrote to compliment/coincide with the podcast where you can find many links to things I mentioned:

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz explore the perceptions we have about the world and how a series of "agreements" made in our mind shapes how we behave and think. He talks about the role of emotion in where our beliefs come from and wraps the context in his "four agreements" a new paradigm for seeing the world.
Next month's book: Getting Things Done by David Allen
How does functional training differ from typical physique based training we see in the gym? This is the question Mike and I discussed today. Simply put, Mike says functional training is "something that makes you better at work, life, or sport.” We talked about isolating and shaping muscles through exercise and how this doesn’t necessarily contribute to strength, why and how to make muscle usable, growth hormone, and what exactly “the core” is as it relates to this conversation (Hint: not the “6 pack”).

“The most important thing is that you have a vision, that you have a goal. Without that vision and without that goal, you’re drifting around and you’re never going to end up anywhere. People don’t become successful just by accident.” -Arnold Schwarzenegger
Having a unique vision or goal is just one way to get specific about your pursuits and seek less to achieve more. We live in a unique age where our struggle is having too much information and knowledge this can paralysis by analysis and other limitations. Listen in to why to be disciplined in your pursuit of less.
“To me its the best work I could think of doing.” Today I was joined by Paul Rosolie, a naturalist, explorer, author, and award winning wildlife filmmaker. He is nothing if not an adventurer in the truest sense of the word. When he’s not immersed in the jungle, Paul has made many public appearances on the likes of The Discovery Channel, The Jimmy Kimmel show, The Today Show, and more. In addition, he has affiliations with National Geographic and the Huffington Post. He is constantly fighting a salient battle to conserve our earth’s resources and jungles in support of the wildlife he so loves so dearly. We talked about what got Paul started from mentors to a thirst for deep meaning, the dichotomy between jungle isolation and media attention, as well as how we can still save our rainforests and ecosystems! “That’s the good part, it’s not too late to fix a lot of this shit!” Paul’s Website- http://paulrosolie.com Paul’s Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/paulrosolie/ Pre-Order Paul’s new book “The Girl and The Tiger” out 9/17- https://amzn.to/2ULKfP9 Buy Paul’s first book “Mother of God: An Extraordinary Journey into the Uncharted Tributaries of the Western Amazon”- https://amzn.to/3173AMZ Contribute to rainforest conservation by joining an expedition with Paul and his team- https://tamanduajungle.com Paul’s award winning short film “An Unseen World”- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hOXKg6wftk Mentioned: https://news.mongabay.com/ Jordan Peterson https://www.jordanbpeterson.com
In this podcast I discuss the neuroticism I've had in the past about health and fitness and how I've largely overcome it. I also share a couple some weird/embarrassing stories to highlight just how aberrant my habits and behaviors used to be. The theme I tried to embody is that you should be open and honest about what you like and what you care about, something I didn't do for a long time. This will enable you to learn more and make connections you otherwise wouldn't.
Shane Hubbard in his 2nd appearance on the "What's Your Story?" Podcast shares his knowledge on fat loss. We talk about the difference between getting and keeping results, fitting junk food into your macros, why we all have to track even if its not necessarily counting calories, and we go beyond calories into the psychology of food! Thanks Shane for joining the show for a second time, looking forward to having you on again!
