Michele Pariza Waceka, best-selling author of the Love-Based Business series of books and owner of a copywriting and marketing company, shares how providing a simple but clear message helped promote her book, become an influencer, and connect with other influencers.
Michele PW’s journey
Michele’s love for writing started back when she was a very young girl, and it moved her to start a career as a direct response copywriter. However, writing sales copy was perceived as "slimy," so Michele felt compelled to change that.
Susan Liddy’s book, Love Based Marketing, helped her define her message. She developed a unique philosophy that she now applies in her own company and shares in the Love Based Business book series.
How to connect with influencers
- Keep your message simple, and based on what keeps your ideal audience up at night.
- Be ready to clearly articulate your message and what you do.
- Attend events where influencers will be (not their event) and pay close attention to what they say so you can really get to know them. Always offer to help them and support them without expecting anything in return.
- Always add a personal touch when you reach out to influencers. Show them that you truly care about them and their business.
- Make it easy for people to promote your event--provide as much help and ready-to-use materials as possible.
- Leverage your own platform, such as a podcast, to initiate the connection. Assume all responsibility for the show's promotion, and welcome the additional exposure you might get from your guests as a nice added gift.
Lessons learned
To avoid misunderstandings and business partnerships gone wrong, always have clear agreements. Spell everything out in writing from day one.
Be reliable. "As much as you can, always hold up your end of the bargain,” she says.
