Julie Schladitz was born and educated in England (Solihull) and currently lives and works in Switzerland, specializing in professional development. She is a regular visitor to the UK for work, further career development and seeing her family. In addition to helping struggling athletes move on after their sporting careers, she has been a career coach for senior executives at companies around the world. She has worked in a variety of positions in the intersecting worlds of sports and business for over three decades, including time at the International Olympic Committee along with jobs at a variety of international corporations.

Dr. Baptiste has always been passionate about medicine; from a young age she aspired to become a doctor. After qualifying in 2013 she began working as a medical doctor in London. Currently Patrice is training to become a General Practitioner (GP). Dr. Baptiste is also a freelance writer and has written for the British Medical Association (BMA), the British Medical Journal (BMJ) and the Medical Protection Society (MPS), to name but a few. Felicity Aston MBE – Explorer, Scientist, Speaker and Author – is the first and only woman in the world to ski across Antarctica alone. The 1744km, 59-day journey completed in January 2012 also made her the first person in the world to traverse the continent purely by muscle power without the aid of kites or machines. In 2015 she was awarded the Queen’s Polar Medal for services in Antarctica and was appointed MBE for services to Polar Exploration. This year she is leading the women only Euro-Arabian North Pole Expedition. In 2009 she led the 38-day, 911km Kaspersky Lab Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition, the largest and most international women’s team ever to ski to the South Pole. Previously, Felicity has led several other notable expeditions including the first British women’s crossing of Greenland, she was also part of the first, ever, all-female team to complete the Polar Challenge, a 500km endurance race to the magnetic north pole, and has completed the notorious Marathon Des Sables, a 150-mile foot race across the Sahara…

My guest today is Lesley Clarke OBE, District Councillor, Charter Trustee, Mayor, County Councillor, Council Leader and Chairman of WLGS, the society which has created the Suffrage Pioneers Project to celebrate 100 years of universal suffrage.

Lesley Clarke OBE – First elected to Wycombe District Council in 1991, a Charter Trustee for the town, Mayor in 1994/95 and County Councillor since 2001. Leader of Wycombe District Council in 2003 for 8 years, Lesley became Chairman in 2014 (Wycombe is the 4th largest Disctrict Council in England). Chairman of the Women’s Local Government Society in 2007 which started the project Suffrage Pioneers in 2015 to find 100 Suffragists to celebrate the 100 years of universal suffrage – In 2018 WLGS achieved their gaol! Awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2013.

My guest today is Susan Gallon, an adventurous marine biologist, specialising in seals, acutely aware of the struggles with climate change and the arctic and member of the all woman Euro-Arabian North Pole Expedition.

We will be discussing:

Susan Gallon, 36, was born and raised in France. As an adventurous marine biologist she carried out a PhD in Scotland on the foraging ecology of grey seals before studying southern elephant seals from the Antarctic Peninsula in Tasmania. She has since been continuously involved in collaborative work with groups in Australia, Brazil, Scotland and France working in the field to tag elephant seals. As a marine biologist she is acutely aware of the current struggles with climate change and that the Arctic has warmed more than any other region on Earth. Susan wants to be part of the expedition not only for the personal challenge but to contribute in raising awareness of this wild and fragile part of the world.

Misba Khan, 49, from Manchester, works part of a finance team in the NHS. A mum of two who’s now showing her kids it’s time for her to have some fun. She describes it as an exciting and transformational stage in her life. A member of The Women’s Euro Arabian North pole Expedition by joining the team she hopes that she would be able to form bridges between different cultures by encouraging women within and out of her community to gain new skills. She would “like to show people that those from all abilities and backgrounds can get involved in activities that may push themselves for their own self-development.
